Arranging the music of one song...
"Level 1 - Tail Cave"
Primary Game: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Nintendo , 1993, GB), music by Kozue Ishikawa, Minako HamanoPosted 2000-08-23, evaluated by djpretzel
HOLY SHIT . . . this is some gooood ReMix, lemme tell ya. I love to see gameboy tunes ReMixed, because the hardware was so limiting (and still is) and I love to see Zelda tunes ReMixed, because all of them have a certain quality to them . . . but most of all, I like to see ANYTHING ReMixed as kickass as this has been. This should become one of your favorites, as the sounds are there, the sequencing is there, and when the drum loop comes in, better turn down that subwoofer or you might just blow a hole through your wall :) . . . this is an amazing submission from Scott Peeples - go check out his web page and see what's up, he's a talented guy and worth the attention.

Agreed with the comments about how the production isn't flawless, but this dark track is still being enjoyed regularly!

I have such a soft spot for this song. Nothing like a false sense of security before being thrown a ton of bass and drummage unexpectedly a minute into the song. Plus the source tune really lends itself well to this building up and breaking down, having all sorts of madness occur around the fringes of an otherwise simple melody. I think those are some of my favorite kinds of songs generally.... maybe this is not a super ambitious remix but I enjoy the heck out of it anyway.

Oh yeah, I can hear the clipping in those drums. Not really a fan of how those sound actually, but I dig the beat and even the piano. Lack of humanization doesn't bug me, but it would have been the kind of touch that only helps a ReMix. Another case of where I liked where the arrangement was headed, but the production could use a little touch up.

Clipping? Yes. Forgivable? Without a doubt! This ReMix kicks ass in so many ways. Great intro leading into the heavy drums at 1:03. This is a keeper in every sense of the word.

This was a song i just randomly came across and just wanted to see if it was any good. the intro gives me the feeling that link just walked in and is just exploring but when it starts going every thing hits the fan

Yeah, the drums are most deffinitely clipping, and they probably could have used a nice hat and tom fill coming in, but they work and fill out the mix nicely.
And a note to everyone else- do not play this mix near your grandma- Mine damn near had a heart attack when the drums first came in.

The mix starts out really weak, but I figured i'd listen all the way through, just to be fair, and i'm glad I did. Though the percussion is excessively loud and sounds to be clipping, the beat is hot, and the track works pretty well.
What could use a little work is some humanization on the piano, harpsichord, and the contrapuntal synth. Not enough to kill the mix by any means, but it does make it sound a little dated.

Truthfully, when I first listened to this I didn't really much care for it, but now it's growing on me.
The first half comes on too strong and could potentially frighten innocent bystanders, and that's what initially turned me off to this mix.
Like I said, the more I listen to this the more I like it and here some really interesting things in this mix like the piano and certain snippets of the mix that sound familiar and give me a feeling in the back of my mind that I should recognize them.

I originally downloaded this in May '03 and immediately panned it out of my keeper playlist (I hadn't gotten past the intro), but realized my mistake a couple months later when it popped up on random when I wasn't paying attention. This song has been near the top of my all time favorites since then.
Well, it's been a hell of a long time since I last listened to it, so I decided to give it another play tonight to see if it's still got the magic, and holy shit, did it deliver in spades. This is one of THE staple OCR's that should be in EVERY OCRite's playlist. It's just that damn good.

Oh... My... God...
This is the reason I come to OCRemix.org
Not only is this from my favorite game, but as the song continues to grow on me, it slowly rises to the top of my list. I have never really enjoyed the Dungeon music all that much, but I'm loving it now. Good Show! 11/10 (Ain't I crafty? *snicker*)

I like a lot of the ideas Scott's got going here, especially for an early mix on the site. What really detracts from the song for me, though, is the distortion in the mix when the drums come in, especially with the kick. It sounds like it's either digital clipping or it's been slammed hard against a limiter. Anyway, it's not enough to keep this song off my playlist though, still good stuff.

The opening's just the original, but then in the re-mix, the melody starts on the first beat, instead of the 2nd 8th note. Really caught me off guard.
The Tail Cave is one of my favorite tracks in the game. A lot of the rest of the sound track is just variation on this one theme. And the Tail Cave itself is just a take of the Wind Fish Ballad in minor! The original composer(s) for the game really went balls to the wall on it!

Man, I really want to complain. But, I just can't. It's not really db, though... more like breaks/bigbeat. Lemme listen again real quick...
I would have used different instrumentation; that's about it. It's a pretty rockin' remix, really. Maybe EQ some things some more. Nice work, Scott.
