Arranging the music of one song...

"A-Type (Korobeiniki)"

Primary Game: Tetris (Nintendo , 1989, GB), music by Hirokazu Tanaka

Alright boys and girls, here's another first - fellow ReMixing comrades McVaffe and Quasikaotic - both dangerous men in their own right - have teamed up to throw some group glasnost at that immortal Russian puzzler Tetris' equally immortal (and sometimes painfully unforgettable) theme music! Yes, it's our first known ReMixer combination, and I think it was quite a successfull experiment. I'm assuming that the piano break is primarily McVaffe's work, as piano is his forte, and I think the transition using the sound effects carries nicely. I also LOVE the latin-esque rhythm on what sound like filtered bongo slaps, panned right, when the full drumline first enters. A great example of taking a theme and playing around with it quite a bit!!

Not the first A-type-only remix on this site, but still my favorite. Interesting progression that seems to derail for a moment, but comes back with the smooth finish that keeps this classic a regular on my playlist.

Well, this is pretty old-school as far as ReMixes go. Not a whole lot to it in terms of change at the start, but then we get the sweet SFX section (which was pretty cool, actually) followed by some piano with beats around it, going into even more old-school style. So while it's true that the melody doesn't really have a lot of change, the arrangement at least changes enough to keep interest and be different. Not my favorite Tetris mix, but not bad.

Ok, so, after talking to Willrock about how McVaffe turned out to be using several remixer names, he found this for me. It's pretty funny how the writeup still says this was made by 2 people (according to Willrock it's the first collab in OCR's history, and it turns out to be made by only one guy. Bummer), while searching for one of them yields no hits in the database. Maybe that's why DJP seems to prefer referring to remixers in writeups using their real names nowadays...

A little too generic for me. There are some creative parts, where the tetris noises are used for percussion, but the beginning is pretty bad by comparison. I'd have loved to hear more tetrisized percussion.

OMG8O That is the tetris theme song I know and love! It is a little altered but it even had the gameboy noise when you turn it on and the sound when you lose on it too. Brings back the greatest memories of those long car rides and I had for entertainment was my gameboy and a few games (one of which was tetris of couse)

Yay! Tetris goes Lambada!

Not a COMPLETE rip-off, at least there is his own base and percussion. It's alright!

I don't know if anyone knew this, or if they ever bothered to check it out, but the Gameboy Version of Tetris actually has something somewhat secretive to it's music. If you pause the game while the music plays and unpause it, the baseline for the music seems to increase or alter itself. Just something I found a long time ago that I'd share.

Whoa...it's interesting how it happens that way. It's either a glitch, or something that was intentional...I think it's a glitch.

Okay, anybody know the name of the Bach piece that is apparently what Song C is based off of? I can't seem to identify it.

So back on topic. I really like the game sound effects that you add here. I like how it goes from the original tune and eventually adds that amazing Russian beat. An awesome salute to the original. Good work.

I first heard this mix as the background to a StarWars Kid video, and I get a chuckle every time I hear it. Both inventive and hilarious, it's a wonderful piece to listen to if you have some extra energy.
