Zelig submits our first toads mix, from the gameboy incarnation, and it's a winner. Starting with a chord that hits several times on the same notes then goes down at the end, and playing with the timing in the intro, a quality hip-hoppish beat comes in with a tres fat kick, and eventually some background pads join the fray, things drop out, come back in, you know the drill :) (Sorry, it's early . . . . no coffee yet) . . . great sound choice, with some excellent ringmod type synth sounds and squelchy analog goodness. At first I found it a little repetitive, but then I listened closer, and Zelig has done the responsible thing and DOES vary it a bit. Good shtuff - now if only we could get a decent next-gen sequel!

Lead: solid with a chewy after-effect.
Second synth: springy complement to the lead, taking over when it feels needed.
Hi-hat: tittering, and even sounds bolder and deeper at times.
Kick: beefy.
Synth textures: shimmering.
Break at 1:13: much obliging.
The collective energy spicing up Professor T. Bird's cutscene music: priceless.

Toning down the repetitive nature a touch would have improved this one a lot. I'm not salivating over those samples either, but they do their job well enough. The structure and arrangement are a little too raw for my tastes; there seems to be many openings for expansion that were left bare. More branching would have done a great job in distracting the ear from the straining backbone that we hear much too often.
It doesn't sound much removed from actual videogame music, but there are some redeeming features to it. For all its design flaws, it does hearken back to the days of fun mixes, where the was no pressure to be a technical wizard or a significant conceptualist among the mixing community. This is barebones and insignificant, but it's got an acquired charm. Big fans of pre-judging panel OCR should be all over this.

We need more battletoad remixes. A very uplifting mix that has a great beat and it is very simple.
Keep it up:

Even with the subtle variations, this mix is too repetative. A change of the chords and some bigger moves on the melody would make a world of difference.
The sounds used here are appropriate, and cute. They work well to bring up a 'turtle in sewers' image to my head (I am unfamiliar with the source, so this will have to do).
Overall, I start spacing out after a while, but the mix is cute and fun.

One of the first mixes I remember really sticking out, this has a great peaceful feeling, and sounds like an ending theme.
It is a bit repetative, but it is simply fantastic to groove on, and though the variation is subtle, the music is catchy enough to carry it, and the rhythms blend together well.
A bit simplistic, but a fun mix.

I really like it! It's got a really cool beat to it with some pretty awesome synths. It's just a tad bit too repeatitive. Other than that... awesome song!

Synthy, along with a wavy bass. Kinda repetitive, though it does change it up a bit with alternate-panning synths starting around 1:34. Nothing outstanding about it, though.

I love this mix There's just enough variety so that instead of being repetitive it just kinda bounces along. It's minimalistic, but everything that is there really hits the spot.

This is very nice, a bit relaxed... I like how the proper rhythm of the opening eludes my grasp for the first few seconds. The only thing I regret is the lack of any more of the original song in it, though this much does hold its own reasonably well.

Wow.. this one is phat. It doesen't have that much variation. But the overall sound of this one is really cool.
It's weird how much I like this song...

Battletoads 'Bird Guy Jam'
A nice mix between thudding drum hits and light airy synths. The rubbery
bassline is a little weird. But hey, it's Battletoads. I like.
