Damn - this came out of nowhere from a brand new ReMixer by the name of 'Aneurysm' who has a very . . . shall we say 'interesting' website. I was really surprised that this was our first SMW mix - we've had a couple Yoshi's Island / SMW2 Mixes but nothing from the first opus. Man, this was a damn great game, still one of my top five platformers. Set a really high standard for the SNES though, which few other platformers lived up to. This Mix has phat beats, awesome and seamless transitions, really gnarled samples, and covers a LOT of the different themes from this game. It sets an excellent standard for SMW ReMixes, and also loops really nicely. I'm pretty damn impressed - the tempo, and the way things are just done in general, is very innovative, with tons of attention to detail, DSP, intonation. Great stuff, worth every nanosecond of the download.

A personal fave and permanent resident on my playlist all these years later. The source selections, transitions, sound effects, the beat...?? Stellar timeless (IMO) example of early OCR

This is just so cool! :D And it flits from original source material really well. :)

I have to say, this is probably like, in the top 10 remixes for the entire site in my opinion, perfect blend of melody, SFX, and transition from theme to theme... yep, perfect.

And damn, this mix is 12+ years old.

The beats totally rock it for me. I think it has some great ideas, although the samples are obviously not very polished.

It seems like the percussion is doing its own thing and has an overindulgent "throw everything including the sink" programming with instruments- long before this idea got popular with a lot of electro house and dubstep stuff. Although it goes too far in some spots (change-ups could be tighter and less jarring) it's still pretty fun and ambitious stuff for the day.

Man I love the arrangement on this... but the quality :-( Chances are probably slim to none this ever gets revisited and cleaned up?

Great remix. One of the only reasons it sounds a bit dated is the absolutely rock bottom 96kbps bitrate!

Anyone know how to get a better quality version of this track?

Thanks!

I really like how the bass really sets the speed and even some of the tone for this mix. It's all like "This might be some creepy haunted forest but we are bringing some funk to this town." and proceeds to bring some funk to this town.

Annnyway, yeah. It sticks very close to the source and, knowing how old school this mix is, makes it sort of understandable.

Still this is a very quirky mix worth checking out.

It's hard not to compare this one to AeroZ/Zircon's more updated, fleshed out takes on the same theme, but even with those in mind I still think this one has its charms. The string samples feel weak but all the synthetic elements fit really well together. This one honestly feels like the kind of thing you'd hear passing the judges panel today, if the organic samples were updated and the arrangement was a bit more creative. Really nice work for such an early mix! :-D

I put this on my iPod without listening to it beforehand, so I was walking down the street at night when it first happened to come on. At about 0:02 when that big beat kicks in for the first time, I thought "oh what the hell" and started dancing down the street. And then at 0:41, when Forest of Illusion came into the equation, I just had to go all out and danced all the way home. awwww yeah.

I guess it's a good thing that my 80-year-old neighbors were sleeping, although.. I'm sure they would have done the same.

Samples aren't great, but the beats are really nice. For being as old school as it is, it has a lot of charm.

I would have to say the best sounding part (to me at least) was the forest of illusion beat. It's so creepy sounding. I would have to say overall I enjoy the first half more than the second. I starts so dark but seems to lose it a bit towards the end.:

there are some pretty terrible samples here and the changeups are awkward

but it's so groovy

would be so much better if it wasn't a medley and just stuck with the castle theme and maybe integrated the forest song better

love the ep chords at 0:35

This is probably the best castle remix I've heard. I like the change at the end. Keep up the good work.

I'm really loving that crazy drum beat. That's the thing which makes this remix dirrefent and outstanding. The sound effects from the game were great! And I really loved the part when all that heavy and dark feeling morphed into "Overworld"-theme...

This song is ORSOME!! Sounds like something you'd breakdance to in the beginning or something but this is amongst my favorites if not my favorite Mario remix.
