JD Harding sends in a quality techno Super Metroid ReMix with a nice crystalline intro and outro, a steady kick / bass synth pattern, some groovy drum rolls, a nice overall texture to the main melody synth, which almost sounds like analog brass but without the attack. Incorporates a piano as well. This is the type of already good techno track where I really think the addition of a separate set of drum sounds at some point and a counter rhythm would add greatly, or even a well placed loop or some fluxing around with resonance or filtering, as tracks that rely more heavily on rhythm sometimes get a little stale without some injections at some point. Case in point would be most hi-hat patterns. Anyway, good mix regardless, won't disappoint, I just have to get my two cents in :)

Pretty generic old-school techo/trance stuff. Nothing too mind-blowing, but I can certainly enjoy this track once in a while

A nice gentle intro leads into a nice chilled out beat that is unfortunately a bit spoiled by the hi-hat and snare coming in hard. Luckily the percussion is pushed a bit more into the background when the main melody comes in, though the snare fill still distracts when it hits. The pads and textures flesh out this track nicely and lead choice compliments them nicely, it's just shame the drums are a bit of a distraction.

Oh wow, I actually remember this track from when I was introduced to Overclocked about 12-ish years ago. The kick/bass and the snare is kind of distracting, but I am still glad I rediscovered this track through this review process I’m doing.

really nice intro, despite the kick/bass kinda ruining the ethereal vibe. Things are better when the strings come in (not big on the snare, though). I agree that some separate drums sounds could flesh it out.

Like djp, I too love the sparkly and transporting intro and outro
- they give the mix a lasting impression of being ethereal, sort
of like the floating pollen/seeds in Brinstar. From an
arrangement viewpoint, I can appreciate how certain elements from
the source are brought out more fully, e.g. the 3-note arpeggio
at 1:08 and the decisive notations at 1:22, which pump up the
mood and guide us along. (Listen to Brinstar - Plant Overgrowth
Area and you'll hear those same parts kinda faded/buried in the
background.) Love the breakdown, too - the arpeggio from before
shows up in a teasingly gentler light.
Classic stuff. I still listen to this regularly.
