"Quick Man Stage"

After a long hiatus, Horde submits this fantastical MegaMan 2 ReMix of Quickman's theme, replete with filter effects, robo-electric patterns, a hyper drum line, and a nice low bass. Starting with a strong intro using a rising alarm-type synth pad and vocal sample and gradually filtering & amping in the drums and bass, Horde takes it from there with a wicked techno track that never gets dull. It's not the lead or bass, but the main pattern being played by a very tasty FM-sounding quick-release synth, that makes this mix. The syncopation between the drum line and bassline are also delicious, and the one-off resonant intro on the lead synth at 3'58" is just one of many nice touches. Definitely gotta getit.

"Step champ." It refers to one who can only "win" (survive) in Quick Man's stage by "stepping" lively (being strong and agile on your feet). At least I think that's what the voice is saying. *shrug* In the main/loud sections, I imagine the boomerang-tossing robot master employing fast, precise reflexes everywhere he runs and leaps. The quiet sections, meanwhile, harbor a suspenseful mindset - imagine if the lights-out corridor and the laser beam chute were one section instead of two, and you'd get something akin to 3:07-3:32. You wouldn't see the insidious death rays come at you from the darkness until it's too late. (Yeah, I'd freak out too.)
Still one of my favorite MM2 mixes from OCR's past.

I'm a little dissapointed in the use of sound effects in this one. I personally find them pretty distracting, and not at all helpful to the mix's soundscape. That, combined with a lack of variation on the source just is making this not work for me.
The bass/drum interplay throughout the mix is pretty cool, as was the fake fade out, but this isn't for me.

Very solid take on the Quick Man theme. The main lead could have used some more fire, and the unintelligblity of the vocal sample does bother me a bit, but the tightness of the rhythmical work makes up for all that. And those giant lasers!

Pretty slammin beat, I just wish the kick had a little more thwack to it to really punch a hole in my wall..quickly of course.
Some of the synths were a little too lo-fi, but overall the soundscape was nice and frantic. It served the game pretty well, and wouldn't be embarrassing for me to crank the volume on.
Breakdown was KILLER, and really creative too. When the drum solo comes in I was totally feeling it. Great idea, and one I have yet to hear elsewhere on OCR.
Great mix, I love this one.

Many has complained about those vocalsamples, but I'm not that bothered bu them Sure, I cannot hear what they'e saying, but the voices are half human, half robotic, just like a security system, INTRUDER ALERT.
Interesting that you made sounds of those laser beams, one good point with that is that I remember how the stage was, 60% escape from deadly laserbeams. Cool.
But for the music, the style and tempo varied iver the mix, but I still feel that this remix isn't contributing with something new, the synth isn't the exact one from the game, but it sounds similiar. But, if you love the music for Quickman's stage, here's an excellent upgrade of that specific track. Enjoy, and thanks EvilHorde.

I really like this piece. The vocal samples added to the overall effect of being ultra-robotic (like the original track!) and the samples of the security lasers from Quick Man's stage are just awesome. DOWNLOAD THIS!!!

I totally disagree with Gnam. *L* I hate the voice samples... I found them pretty annoying, especially since that's about all there was to the intro... I almost didn't listen to the whole song.
I'll agree that the synths didn't sound high quality, but I wouldn't say the NSF is better.... and I think the synths may be purposely low quality to retain more of the NES feel. Overall, it was an OK remix, but not one of my favs.

I don't like the synth instrument carrying the main melody (the part that starts at 0:38). It sounds flat and low quality, like MIDI or original NES music. As a matter of fact, I listened to the NSF of the MM2 OST, and the synth of that same line in the original sounds BETTER than in this remix. I like the intro, the voice samples, MM2 sound effects, the distortion, the beat, really everything up untill 0:38, and IMO, that weak synth on the main line really brings it down.
There are mixes where NES or MIDI sounding synth is used and it works. McVaffe's Quasikaotic from Castlevania Adventure is a good example. It uses (as far as I know) the synth from the original Gameboy version of the song for the main line, but it actually sounds quite good. Unfortunately in QuickDraw I don't think this happens. Perhaps if it did use the original NES synth for the main line it would sound better. Perhaps using a guitar synth or something would work even better. I don't know. All I know is it should be changed.
To be fair, this mix has actually stayed on my hard drive for some time now just because all other aspects of the song are so good. Everything else about it is top notch. I just wish there wasn't that one thorn in the side bringing it down.

My favorite thing about Megaman remixes is that most of the time you get a nice, fast, spicy beat, and when you don't, well, the mix is great anyways. This mix was nice and fast, just the way I liked it. ^^

This mix defines Mega Man 2 techno mixes. The distorted effects, and the synths that all mix to form an awesome combination. I love the bass solos, and the distorted sample that's straight from the Quickman level.
What really stuck out was the panning sample at 3'20" that's straight from the game (You don't even need headphones to listen to it). That just blew the song from number 3 on my list to 1 on my list of top Overclocked Hits.

I disagree. I think judging the voice sample's reverb quality is being WAY too analytical. This song is phigady phigady phat...And for the record...The voice samples ROCK.
