Visions of the Future, aka Juan Daniel, recently sent me this and a couple other good mixes. I chose this piece to post first because, although it's short, it has a very unique sound and is concise but developed - sort of like a good sonnet, as opposed to an epic poem. But forgive and forget the literary metaphors - VotF opens with some sweeping delayed synth lines that sound like ocean waves due to the heavy processing, then the basic mix sets in, with a solid kick and laid back percussion that's panned hard right and left to fill out the mix. A bass that subtly disappears into the mix as it acts as the bottom end of the chords the pads form, a little bell line at the end, and the lead melody being carried out on a respectable flute all make for short, breezy track that nevertheless held my interest and didn't feel rushed at all - nice change of pace and a good way to begin things for Mr. Daniel.

Ooooooo, me rikey. Some niggles with the mixing (flute could have some more verb and the production is a bit too much IN YOUR FACE for the chill arrangement) but...yeah, this song is nice and WAY TOO SHORT...oh, Val already said that...and so did other people.

Carry on. Do it again. Longer. And with feeling.

The samples stick out as quite bleh, and when you think the mix is about to step it up, it ends.

So disappointing that this mix is only 1:08, as it starts off promisingly.

wow, this is too short (and that's a good thing, since I liked it). I really liked the use of the synths, it gave the track a distinct flavor . would like to have seen this developed a little into something even better!

I agree with that it is too short, for one.

For me, the driving synths in the background seem really out of place here.

It seems like it is trying to be techno and easy listening at the same time, which is is a little strange.

But it is an interesting track nonetheless.

It keeps reminding me of Final Fantasy for some reason.

i would have preferred to not lose that delay in the beginning around 0:08.

otherwise, this sounds great! why so short?? once i started nodding my head to the music the song was over.

great job!

I definitely love those synth arpeggios.. the way the reverb disappears in the intro and then the main tune kicks in.. a really nice touch. The flute is rather stiff though, no volume variation.

And yeah, it's really short. Just begging for another part. But it's really sweet too.

Wow, this is really pretty! I'm definately keeping this.

Everyone's said it, waaaayyy too short! There could be so much more expansion on the theme, rather than a one time run-through. I don't know the original, so I don't know what's been done, but a second and third run through would have been appreciated by me.

This mix stopped before it even got off the ground; it was way too short.

A shame too, since it was sounding really good. Though I'm not sure about the lofi synth arpeggios, the rest of the track is great, with a calm melody and subtle percussion touches.

It really reminds me of lunar or a similar RPG soundtrack, and it makes me kindof sad something like this that could be so good got cut so short.

Beautiful...but a cocktease! I wanted so much more. I loved this game, and it has a fantastic soundtrack. I wish other remixers would take notice of this game. Great job though dude. Made my heart melt, and thats not easy to do anymore. Recommended.

I actually think the length is appropriate since you don't here this tune for very long in the game. Some other Valis remixes would be nice, especially from Valis I. Frash of Sword begs to be remixed.

Nice work. My main problem with this is that it's too short. It is hard to beat the original, but that is not the fault of the mixer. Seriously, make more from this series. If you've never heard music from this series, then you have no alternative but to get this. Overall, cool. Looking forward to hearing more from VotF.

Valis III 'Sword Evolution (Starlight)'

What's here sounds great, although the lead is maybe overpowered a little by the synth thingys. The problem with this mix is that it feels incomplete, like a demo for some larger mix that only has the intro, then is over before you know it. While some mixes can get away with being only about a minute, this one can't, making it, sorry to say, entirely forgettable.
