Alrighty, more McVaffe, and a decidedly different flavor as well. The man knows no fear, as he delves deep into Kondo's Yoshi's Island and pulls out a juicy, head-boppin' piece of that oldtime rag. That's right, I said rag. As in Scott Joplin. McV turns Yoshi's little diddy into a ballsy piano rag that would be appropriate in any dusty-yet-busy saloon in the old west. Actually, this reminded me a bit of the soundtrack to The Sting (Redford and Newman - great film), which had a lot of that genre throughout it. Beginning with a solo piano that has it's low-end chords panned harder left than I've usually heard, with the happy melody going on on your right, accompanying drums (kick, cymbals, some tom fills, and a nice brush snare I wish I had) and upright bass then come in and make it a grand ole time. Now, this is no way a shortcoming of the mix, but I liked it so much it could have been twice as long, in which case it would have been absolutely bitchin' to have a clarinet solo. Clarinet patches that are worth a damn for jazz are hard to come by, so maybe Woody Allen or someone will one day read this write-up, contact McVaffe, and make my dreams come true, but in the meantime, this is a great little treat in a genre we don't see a lot, done right AND done fun. Kudos.

They should have renamed this Super McVaffe World 2. Out of 6 tracks, he's done 4 and they are all awesome! This reminds me of that ragtime song "hello, my honey" or whatever it's called. It is short, but that's the only fault I see. Great piano work and a unique take on the track. Ragtime rocks.

Ah short and so sweet...

This reminds me so much of one of those old timey ragtime player pianos.

Normally I'd complain about how short a mix like this is, but it just works as it is. It's so tightly encapsulated that to draw it out would ruin it.

My only objection is the ending; it's too abrupt. Wham! and it's over...

Still this is a great little mix and worth checking out.

I was going to make some of the songs from this website in a fanfic of mine. This goes good with a tavern scene.

Btw, didn't this song was called something else? I remember this song from before but I can't quite put my finger on it. Hmm...

Anyways, cool song!

Really short, but fun. Much like this review. :

Hah, just joking. It's a good genre adaptation, though beyond a few counterpoint ideas that aren't added until later on, it's a pretty simplistic, though engaging take on the theme. If you want cheering up, this is your mix!

It should be mandatory for good remixes to be at least 3 minutes long. a minute and a half of this!? This makes the "Entertainer" look like a horribly sung Britney Spears song. catchy, addictive, and too short! But highly reccomended.

This is so much fun, short and sweet! I just wanna sit down listening to this and bounce up and down in my chair, lol! That's how uplifting it is. Scott Joplin ain't got nothing on this! Good stuff, McVaffe!

McVaffe has another nice work here. Athletic Theme is my favourite music from Yoshi's Island. The piano is brilliant and beautiful. Simple and adorable remix. Highly recommended. =^.^=

I absolutely love this. It's one of my favorite remixes on the site and a great rag (even with the addition of some non-traditional elements).
