DJ Terra's first submission is also our first Mega Man X4 ReMix. Introing with nice synth chords that stick with the mix throughout, Terra brings in your classic techno dum-de-de-dum-de-de boppin' bassline and a recognizable and tried-and-true techno/house drum pattern with kick, claps, offbeat hi-hats, and snare. Though these are fairly "vanilla" elements that are easy to point out in many electronica pieces, they're definitely used well here and implemented with thought to the song as a whole. The additional, modulated synthline that enters at 1'26" definitely makes things more interesting timbrally, with a great synth patch. Sounds and execution are high-quality throughout, and it's an enjoyable mix. I'd like to have seen some more "breakout" sections where perhaps the chords dropped out and the drums went off a tangent, but what's here is solid, classic techno coverage that is listenable and groovy.

I really don't think I have to echo everyone else seeing how it's been said in just about every ReView so far. Yeah, it sounds a bit repetitive, put for some reason, I don't mind it here. The melody is good and I think the main thing holding this back is a lack of variation and switch-ups, more like 1:35. I think it's pretty good personally, but I can see where others take fault with it.

What bothers me about this mix is that there is so much that could have been done, but isn't. The song didn't have to be repetitive if things like what goes on at 1:35 happened sooner.

Not for me.

yes!!!

if a listener can't tolerate anything remotely resembling repetitiveness, 8/16-bit gaming just isn't for you

go listen to wayne shorter (i'll join you after listening to this several more times)

It starts out pretty good but hardly changes for the duration.

Sorry, needs more variation to keep my interest.

Repetive, repetive, repetive, I've that word quite some time, and now I say do it again. This song IS repetive, BUT as Disco Dan said ( I'm too lazy toquote right now), Terra throws in some new synths at 1:35, so it have more variety than expected at least. This is after all the Stage Select music after all, it's cursed to repeat itself for eternity, so why cannot the remix do it? Besides, if this remix would be the actual music in the beginning, my eyes would be wide-open and I would start jumping up and down in my couch proclaiming how awesome the music is.

This remix is rock solid, no doubts about. Throw in some more gadgets and it gets great.

The trancy nature of this remix rocks - I love it! And really, how often do you hear a stage-select theme worth remembering? Stroke of brilliance on the remixer's part! Actually, one of the main reasons I like this one so much is because it's repetitive - it just keeps sounding great, and letting you bask in said greatness over and over.

I enjoyed this game the most out of all the PC games I have ever owned. Yes. So now I will shamelessly defend it. Are video games not meant to be repetitive? For fuck sakes, listen to your mother. If you don't have anything nice to say, then please STFU.

This is probably the first Megaman game I have ever beaten without being angry at myself.

Yeah, everyone stated that its repetitive, even for a techno. I still like it, repetition doesn't really bother me if its repeating something GOOD.

I have to agree with the post above mine. This song is extremely repetitive and since it's stage select song three minutes is waaaaaayy to long it it was about a minute and twenty seconds it would be a much needed improovement. Nice try but I'm not impressed with this one.

My good sir, this song is very repetative with a very simple song writting scheme applied to it. Add a new drum every 4 bars to accompany cluttered drums and the main synth lines. Sorry didnt like this one.

I don't know that "the original was repetitive" is a good excuse for a remix being too repetitive. I don't feel this mix is TOO repetitive, but it definitely starts to grate after a while. But at 1:35 or so he does add another element to spice things up and I'd say it's used quite effectively. Just as I was thinking it was too repetitive the new elements came in. Now if he could figure out how to layer more creatively and with more variety, isolating some elements and not others more tastefully, it'd be a really solid mix.

Its pretty goodbut to repetitive.

The stage select song from X4 was rather short (well, long compared to the others), but it was also imho the best of all the megaman games (stage select themes). I'm glad to see such a good remix of this song, as Terra does nothing but improve upon it. Sure, it gets repetitive, but that's to be expected, as the real song isn't long at all either. Good stuff.

Mega Man X4 'Stage Select'

There really ain't much to complain about (except for some clipping that I detected), but this isn't that remarkable of a remix either. Don't get me wrong, it's enjoyable, but it doesn't stand out all that much. So listen and enjoy, but don't expect to remember it after the next song on your playlist rolls around.
