Arranging the music of one song...

From the opening chords (which are the main infrastructure) of this MMX3 mixage by DJ Terra, you should get the idea - more good, straightforward trance techno homage to Capcom's blue bomber. Random mental sidenote: the conversion/translation of the Japanese name 'Rockman' to 'Megaman' is one of the few instances I can think of where the Japanese original was modified significantly and it was actually an improvement. This mix's strength is also its weakness - the chord pattern that intros is basically the meat of the song. It's quite catchy, with nice filtering and effects, but it's relied upon to carry a track that's almost four minutes long, which is asking a lot. Would have liked to see more variety - sure, you could argue that trance as a genre is about repetition, but I still think break sections and what not are a good idea and what's more, they give the ReMixer a chance for more creative freedom than normal (some might say the chance to 'show off' but that's a negative spin ^^). Anyway, the source material's groovy and by no means is this sub-par coverage. Beat's good and strong and does do some fills and variations, the chromatic falls and rises of the main melody are mixed up when they occur, which is a nice little injection, and I kinda like the way you can hear the decay of the underlying synths at the very end. What's missing is a B section, or even B or C sections - just a bit more to fill the 3+ minutes with a couple extra musical ideas. Anyhoo, still fun and put together with attention and skill, and worth the download for MM / Techno fans.

The chords are the mix. Seriously, I love Trance and I can say that a lot of it is the same beat filled with different sections and areas. This is great work, there is no denying that, and to apply it to Gravity Beetle's theme was cool. It does run a bit long with the repetitiveness, but after years of listening to this type of music, I've gotten used to that (considering some trance goes like this about six or seven minutes) and this is close to perfect on length for me. Sweet stuff.

NIce chord progression hook, but by the end it starts to wear a little thin. There's a lot of countermelodies off to the side, but nothing that takes center stage for the duration like that chord progression. A good listen, but not something I could loop endlessly.

this is so masterful

this remix inspired me to do a guitar cover of gravity beetle (which i haven't released because it isn't ready for primetime but enjoy listening to)

love it.

repetitive is the easiest critique and least applicable if anyone who played 8/16-bit games could tell you

if you don't like repetitive music you must mute classic video games.

Do ya think since its been awhile since this was released that you will ever do a remastered version of it?

Wow, I remember this, I just re-downloaded it.

Gravity Beetle theme needs more prominence, and that weird sound takes over it.

This is trance!? I thought it would have some more action, or maybe I still don't know what trance is.

Anyhew, as pretzeldude already mentioned, this remix is kinda repetive. The chords are the main instruments, the different beats and synths spice this arrangement a little extra, makes me think of a Club remix. Although this piece doesn't offer much variety, it's still comfortable listening to, and there's nothing wrong with the arrangment, so this is nice theme for a Gravity Beetle.

Heh, gravity beetle, how silly...

Aye aye aye....

There's some weird non-resolving chordal structure at :58 (7'th note in theme)... Sounds like the note was 'bent' up to the right one, but even hitting it throws the chord off...

(then again, the chord doesnt feel right. If Im right, the SPC has chord changes 8 times in the refrain through major, minor, diminished, and dim m7 --no particular order)

Having never heard the original track (ok, so I'm an old man, I guess - never played MM X3) I was able to listen to this track in a relatively unbiased manner.

No real complaints, but no real praise either, I'm afraid. It's in my rotation, but overall, it just doesn't grab me like some of the other tracks I dig.

The mix was the best part about this one, good balance.

7/10 overall.

While I have nothing but respect for the individuals who undertake remixing songs, especially from the X series, I just wasn't feeling this one. Some of the very basic elements of the song have been augmented, making it very frusterating, to say the least, for me to try to get that "nosalgia" from the original. To put it simpler, the song turns one way, where it's actually supposed to travel a different direction in terms of music.

There is one main thing I hated about this remix. I had to listen REEEEAL hard to hear the Gravity Beetle theme. The bass line/static line was WAY too heavy. It almost ENTIRELY drowned out the melody. Just enough to stop me from downloading it. So turn up the melody line volume and reupload, and I'll download it. 'Cuz the rest of it sounded |3\/\/1. In a very very 1337 |-|4X0|2z way.

This song is great in many aspects, the mood is sort of heroic/memorial and the song itself is great (the quality is tiny bit bad). This is also repetitive, but I don't care.

Personally I prefer the original tune to this song myself. For a song that's about four minutes long you'd think there would be a little more variety in it. But anyways this song has some good points about it it doesn't get tiresome for me anyways.

I'm going to have to agree with djpretzel with about everything. A B-part is screaming for recognition. The chord are monotonous, but the song is good. The kick is great. Blunt ending. Could have done without the glissandos up and down around 1:29, but I was overall happy about the song. I liked it.

Much like the MMX4 Stage Select mix, this song has great overall sound quality, but lacks variety. Some new chords somewhere between the original chords would have done this mix some good.

The track is way too repetitive. I still like it, though.
