Mazedude's last mix, RiverCityRammstein, was frighteningly good, so he had a lot to live up to in terms of setting such a high benchmark for himself. While perhaps a little less intense, and from more commonly covered material, his latest mix of Doom 2 still got some serious mojo rising. Living up to its christening, this is gothic industrial, featuring choir and harpsichord merging with heavy electric beats and fx. Fading in with basic synth, there's a great vocal effect at 0'31" that ALONE makes this worth listening to. It catches you by surprise each time and is so much more effective than more cliched dance-oriented samples like "let's move", etc. - small, but a really nice touch. The basic piece evolves from there to feature increasingly heavy percussion with a variety of panned bleeps, squirts, wurls, and kachunks, and the introduction of a symphonic organ to compliment the harpsichord. The one thing this piece is (arguably) missing is a strong presence on the low end - no overt, dedicated bassline to speak of. This is another instance where I can say that I would like to hear how this mix would sound a certain way (with a bass and perhaps a bit faster tempo) but am still satisfied with the version Mazedude gave us. He seems to have a very firm grasp on the nuances of programming industrial percussion with some serious attitude, and his recent mixes have all benefited from his honing of this particular skill. Recommended.

Clever use of vocals at the start. The choir and the harpsichord kick some ass together with the beats. Would've like the kick to be a little stronger, but it doesn't take away from this track.
Good work Mazedude.

Lot of cool percussion in here, and the choir samples that were hard panned were pretty sweet. I wish certain aspects hit a little harder, like the kick, and some of the synths, but overall, great stuff. the counter melodies and crazy creative touches really make this stand out and it's got enough detail packed in to make each repeated loop of the track reveal something new.
Good stuff.

I usually review a mix as I listen to it and was about to be all on this mix
but then at 0:31 then Wham, Splat,
Moral of the story: don't judge a track solely by it's first 30 to 45 seconds
I can't believe that this mix hasn't really seen the light of day since 05. This is definitely worth checking out.

Nicely done. Good atmosphere with the insturments and choir samples. DJP was right, it is a bit lacking in the lower frequencies, but still a great ReMix.

This is just one of those ReMixes that I absolutely must listen to over and over...
The SFX at 31", as djpretzel says, is a nice change from the classic choices for such things...
I like how the Mix switches from the original tune at that point to a more "heavy-metal" style at that point, as well.
Near the end, at 3'05, the guitar-riff sound marks a change from the ReMix material back to Original-type stuff, with the underlying bass from the Mix accompanying it as it fades from hearing.
All in all, excellent ReMix, as other people have said, mazedude should make a few more from this game.

The gasp at the start really cracked me up Good one Mazedude!
The vocals add some goodness to the atmosphere, and the overall tune is a very good one.

Another masterpiece by Mazedude!
In my opinion, this has got to be one of the creepiest songs in the game to begin with, and Mazedude has gone and made it even more so.
The *gasp* sounds add a lot to the creepy, gothic, otherwordly feel of the piece.
For some reason, this piece has always ( the original and Mazedude's ReMix ) seemed very, how do I say this, ... epic. It has a very large, open quality about it that dwarfs you as you listen to it.
