DJ Carbunk1e has given us promising, quality FF7 and Tales of Phantasia ReMixes to date, and shows that he's improved his craft with his latest mix from Luigi's Mansion - our first Gamecube ReMix. This is some edgy, unique electronica - right off the bat you'll notice a hissing, bit-crushed (or highly compressed) open hi-hat, reverbed pizzicato strings, dark, ominous strings, and an aura of foreboding. Then a nice syncopated beat comes in along with filtered, delayed, phased synth patterns, over which a trancey lead begins with the melody. We then break round 1'31" to an ambient section with nice minimal hi-hat rolls, then come back into the fray with a deep resonant synth bass, the melody adding some more movement. At this point, I was duly impressed - Carbunk1e started off with skills, no doubt, but has improved them markedly with this ReMix. Very polished, never boring, multiple layers that interact with each other, a fully developed intro and ending, and quality effects and mixing throughout. A breath of fresh air, in a sense - dark, ominous, downbeat techno with subtle but perfect drums, from a previously unmixed game and system. I'm impressed, and glad to see clear, linear improvement of this nature. Highly recommended.

For daily composition practice, I upgraded this song a bit. Maybe I'll put it up on SoundCloud if I get it to a finished state. It isn't easy to update a song without rewriting it entirely while also making sure it does not sound dated.

It's amusing how most synths are possessed by a ghoulishly wacky character not unlike the Boos in the Mario universe. The hissing hi-hat sounds more like industrial steam puffs to me, busily blowing a surplus of awesome out the mix's pores. Even the bass synth at 1:48/1:49 and elsewhere resembles a monster doing its own "om nom nom nom" eating process.
One lead (0:30) follows Outside's lonely arpeggio in spirit, popping up and shifting in sporadic ways, and another (0:59) is simultaneously shaky and paralyzed in its exploration (sorta like Luigi, heh). 1:34 rises to the third note and briefly pauses (as in the source), and 2:14-2:27 finishes what's left to cover, playing not three but four of the same notes to square out the song and come full circle. And the piano in the end couldn't be more direct homage to the original.
Captures the tension and amplifies the atmosphere of the game. Well played.

I like this one. It's dark, techno, industrial, atmospheric, and, most importantly, funky.
It's all just works so well together. Great mix.
My question is why don't people make more remixes on this game. It has a really good soundtrack, Just my opinion,
I agree. The Luigi's Mansion soundtrack was good.

Pretty solid synthage rockin here, though the beats are a bit on autopilot. They change up between the different sections, and there is plenty going on but they never really catch my ear. The synth textures, however are pretty nice, and combined with some orchestral elements are what make this track good. Some of the sounds could have benefited from being a bit more crisp, mostly the mid-lows, but production is good enough.
I think the source itself is a little dull; decent texture, but not much going on melodically, so making it listen able takes a little extra work. I think a good job was done here, though. Some nice breakdowns, the melody itself played by a saw, with some good gating variation between repetitions to keep it sounding fresh, and great use of panning.
Basically a great treatment of an average source song, it's a distinct improvement over the original, and atmospheric enough to have some personality.

Whenever this songs come up on my playlist, I've always looked past it, never really came upon listening to it but now that I have it's left quite a good impression on me. Dj Carbunkle has done a lot of funky kick ass stuff, this is another example of his awesome-ness!

This remix has got to be my all-time favorite! I have played Luigi's Mansion and the sountrack is pretty good, but DJ Carbunkle made an excellent remix anyway.
The orginal soundtrack was a bit scary, but if I was in a really big house and heard this music, I'd go crazy. I can listen to this song over and over again and never get tired of it.
My favorite part is probably around 2:14.
Download it right now!
Overall Grade: 10/10
P.S. This song is so good that people will be listening to it 5 years from now.

Hmmm... I can't recognise the original tune this is based on... but who cares?!! This is one of the best remixes on this site. Very evil and atmospheric. Download it now! 5/5

SWEET! I've got a lot to say on this one. Like was said before, Luigi's Mansion was quite evil, but playfully - this sounds truly evil. Though not the most awesomest or favoritest song on this site I've come across, it might very well be the coolest. My favorite thing in any song is attention to detail and small innovations that add subtle marks, and this song is totally loaded.
Good, tasteful use of that synth that is so overused in techno songs (and even those arpeggios normally so *ugh*); put to a fresh use. The modified top hat sample that you hear right in the beginning is sweet stuff. At around 1:30 there's that child-like thing that's not quite a xylophone - really evil Then you've got those gastric thingies at around 1:50 - REALLY EVIL And at the ending there, with the piano playing as the rest fades out, you've got that discordant sharp note tossed in... OOO! Too cool, too cool...
I actually had a lot of fun playing Luigi's Mansion. The controls are difficult at first, but make for some smooth playing. It's also fun to watch Luigi panic all the time, shakin' his knees, whimpering, nervously humming along with the music

I'm not much on describing the little aspects of songs that make them grand, I can only think of one word right now... Tasty!
But seriously, its an awesome way to start the Gamecube selection of music here, ohh and orky, go out and buy a GCN, its as amazing as this song is

God. Damn. Pretzel broke it down piece by piece already, so there's no need to go into the nitty-gritty of the technical aspects - I'll just gush some more. This mix is brooding, dark, and ethereal. Flat out, it's EVIL, and I love it. I think what makes it stand out most, though, is it's departure from the source material. Luigi's Mansion is evil too, but in a very fun and playful way; there's really nothing scary about a ghost that looks like a casting call reject from Ghostbusters. What Carbunk1e does with the tune turns it into something far more menacing than the original, and with technical and musical prowess that make it flat out addictive. Loveitloveitloveit. I can't believe I actually considered NOT putting this on the last OC Mix CD I burned. What a fool I was. I say this in the most complimentary, non-gay way imaginable: Carbunk1e, I love you, man.

This is probably one of my favorite songs I've done out of all the submitted/unsubmitted work that I have. I just really enjoyed making it. I'm glad that it turned out successful!
