ReMix:Chrono Trigger "Green Amnesia" 6:35

Arranging the music of one song...

Hell Freezes Over! Dewey defeats Truman! Other Headlines! What's the buzz? I'll tell you what's a happenin' - Disco Dan, long a purveyor of fine Capcom (cough, "Mega Man") ReMixes (with noted Mario Paint and Metal Gear exceptions to his name) has finally broken down and ventured into the ever-popular territory of Squaredom with his latest ReMix, from none other than Chrono Trigger. We were running short on Chrono Trigger ReMixes, and it's really underrated and overlooked as a game soundtrack, so I'm glad he took the time to be so . . . obscure (Sarcasm? You're soaking in it.) Dan the man has in fact created a great piece of music here, so ignore my daft ramblings and grab it now. Entering with a tres jazz bit with some soloing over pads, the main, acoustic guitar arpeggio-driven vibe comes in round the first minute with a deep bass, rim shot, and mellow piano. Full drums enter circa minute two, completing the sonic picture with a completely relaxing, transcending groove. After a break with some ambient wind, shakers come in that lend some more forward momentum, along with a simple delayed sine synth. But it's around 4'32 where the transition to double-time actually occurs, and I have to applaud DD for handling this transition seamlessly, using the shakers as a bridging instrument. Lead melody is then covered by a shakuhachi-like wind instrument, and Disco tastefully ends the piece by fading everything but the wonderful string pads and exposes the underlying chord structure, which resolves major for some definite structural closure. All told, this is definitely one of his best works, if not his best - regardless of whether it's from Capcom, Squaresoft, or "Bob's Software Company", it's sonically and architecturally sound, switches from a mellow, free-floating jazz intro to a more defined but equally mellow groove, then to an upbeat piece with more forward motion, all without batting an eyelid or betraying any uncertainty in transitions. Easier said than done. Mr. Cabrera brings something new to the CT ReMix table, which is admittedly already full with some amazing dishes, but I think his definitely deserves your special attention. Highly recommended.

This remix has been part of my life for around 20-ish years now.. I remember downloading it early 2k's (with my 56k modem).... the long wait of 6-ish MB download....
Since then, I've regarded this remix as the best ones there are in my books. Even now 2023, I still use it as my wake up alarm....
Wish I could shake Dan's hand with a smile. This remix is pure gold.
Thank you!

it's about a dozen days short of a dozen years since the last
time i said it so i may as well return for the fourth iteration
of "zykO (really) loves Green Amnesia"
GOAT.
best. ever. if i could fornicate with this song (not to the song; been there, done that), i would and then i would pray the little green forgetful monkey spawn that emerge would then concoct this ever-green, ever-glorious beauty of sound again and again in an endless timeloop wherein i could eternally rest.

If there's a couple mixes I could attribute to my wanting to get
involved in the remix community...this would be one of them.
Disco Dan has had some great hits on here, but if I was ever in a
mood to chill, or if I was with friends who wanted to hear
something unique: This would be one of the first mixes I would go
to.
The soft, lush opening with an ambient pad, with the synthetic
trumpet really set the stage for the big opening at 1:02. More
instruments slowly make their way into the mix by way of
automating the volume, and when the piano comes in...oh my. This
is one of the best intros I've ever heard to a remix. It's
mellow, fine-tuned greatness that could inspire one to make a
change in the world. I can't write enough good things about this
one as it makes me think about all the good times in my childhood
and how I developed my own path.
Truly magical stuff right here. Thanks Disco Dan.

Nice lush opening with some semi noodley brass, and then some amazing piano and synth goodness. This is really beauty in simplicity, and has a great source with a really tasteful arrangement and expansion. Very nice stuff, and not surprisingly, from Disco Dan!

Wow, I am new to this site, and I am not a remix guru, just a big fan of Chrono Trigger and Square in general, and I am blown away by this track. It brought back special memories for me. This was my favorite music piece in the game, and I find myself replaying it in my head often. Disco Dan, somehow you dove into the souls of the people that truly loved this game and applied the passion that they felt to your mix. I am a new fan of yours. Can't wait to check out what else this site has to offer. This is definitely going on my IPod! Keep up the good work.
Thank You,

Right from the start I thought this was gonna burst out into a rendition of The Final Countdown, but thankfully Dan decided to go with a different approach
The opening strings are really breezy, and I couldn't think of a better instrument combo to follow up on that intro with than piano, guitar, and the mellowest drums EVER! I can totally chill out to this!
Just when this could have ended with a synth outro, but instead things picked up again with a more fluid drumline that carried the tune nicely for a while before eventually breaking out into trance-mode... kinda I'm writing this stream of consciousness style and honestly I can't pigeonhole this onto one particular genre. That's the beauty of Disco Dan's music - it's multifaceted, hard to pin down, but always AWESOME
This is my first time listening to this and I'm really floored by the sounds employed here. Nice, nice work!

My sentiments exactly Blue - in fact I did fall asleep to this last night.Disco Dan, WHERE ARE YOU. The peoples of the world/OCR demand more Disco Dan. Seriously though, the next time I see Disco Dan on the front page of OCR, I will probably cream my pants.
As for this song? One of the best OCR songs... in the history of OCR.
I have to quote the above. Where are you, Disco Dan? This is one of my most prized OCRemixes that I have on my computer. It goes from Chill to UltraChill.
Its splendid. A near perfect mix that takes a source theme and layers a soundscape the likes of which most of us only dream to attain at some point. This mix isn't repetitive at all (it could be), and brings a unique feeling every time you listen to it.
Fantastic Job, wherever you are, Disco Dan!

Wow. When that piano starts, you can just tell. This mix is super quality. Such a great moment. I rarely get chills, and frankly find it quite cliche, but that moment was as close as I get.
The true impressiveness in this for me comes from the fact that this tune has been wrung totally dry over the years and interests me nil. Lucky I don't judge a mix by its source, otherwise I would have missed out on an original, slow-burning beacon of hope for the music of CT. If someone can squeeze this much blood out of the CT stone, then it is an exciting prospect for all music sources. Beautiful choices in arrangement, the fleeting piano tangents to the more subtle variations. It's exactly how to treat such a well-known, strong melody.
Disco Dan may not be reknowned for this sort of music, but he damn well should be. Excellent job.

Definitely a classic. This song is so incredibly chill that it's on my nighttime playlist--which is a good thing, as it's hard to find music that's so relaxing. I always liked this theme, and I think this may be one of the best renditions I've ever heard of it. KF

I feel like i just saw a movie in its entirety, and i feel like it was the most epic movie ive ever seen, all through this song...

I was already in love with OCRemix before this song came out. This remix just made me renew my vows with the site and apply new levels of love and affection both for Chrono Trigger's music, and for DD. Thanks, man.

This remix brought along with it all the feelings of the original and just a little more. Outstanding.

Excellent piano driven mix. I love how it transitions to a new tempo at the 4:32 mark, and then scales back. Very well done.

After reading some reply's, what more needs to be said? This song is phenomenal!

I've been listening to a lot of remixes on this site for a while, and this remix is the one that finally made me register to the forums so I could do a quick comment.
This is the best remix on this site. It's in my Ipod and has been burned onto a CD for the soul purpose of relaxing me on my way to and from classes (finals anyone?). There isn't much I can say that anyone else already hasn't already been said, so I will just say thank you so much for recreating this exquisite piece of music. Perfect for the dreary drive home at night
