ReMix:Final Fantasy IV "A Chocobo's Mystic Life" 2:41
By MexieuS
Arranging the music of one song...
"Chocobo Chocobo"
Primary Game: Final Fantasy IV (Square , 1991, SNES), music by Nobuo UematsuPosted 2003-02-12, evaluated by the judges panel
Okay, this is kinda lame of me and I apologize. As of right now, my soundcard ain't producin' no sound. I know what the issue is, know how to fix it, so all is not lost, but it ain't happening tonight. However, since I listened to this Chocobo ReMix from Steve (alias MexieuS) over at GameTrax.net a couple times last night, I feel like I remember it pretty clearly. Well, clearly enough to fudge my way through a write-up, quote the judges some, and give you the general impression that while I didn't dig the intro, as soon as the calliope lead with mucho ornamentation came in, I saw the appeal. I'd also like to pad this review with a non-sequitir by saying that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a really damn good show, and that dancing around madly to the theme song by one's self is a perfectly natural, healthy thing to do. Right. Judges were a little divided on this, but I think Mr. Saunders' sentiment illustrates the majority vote well: "Wow, I'm liking this a whole bunch actually. I read the comments posted by the other judges a while ago and anticipated something I'd really dislike, but so far this doesn't disappoint. When Dan said Grocery Store techno I guess I was expecting elevator music, but that's certainly not what I heard. Pizza made a comparison to David the Gnome, I haven't seen the show so I can better make a comparison to Kirby (Yay, Kirby!). This sounds like it could be background music for a level having Kirby riding a Chocobo." So there you have a glimpse of the potential positive/negative - on the one hand, it's not hardcore techno and won't r0x0rz your s0x0rz or whatever it is the l33t kids say, and has an underwhelming ending and not overly-inspired samples. On the other hand (man, I sound like "Fiddler on the Roof"), Steve has some fun with the melody on the afforementioned flutey calliope lead thingamajig, and the ornamentation and motion in this lead/solo is what my ear personally latched onto and appreciated. If you've reached the end of yourself with the Chocobo theme and feel it to be a menacing overture of uber-glee, chances are this won't make a convert out of ya. But, if you're interested in another, different, and well-sequenced rendition that has something new to offer and exudes heaping pounds of happy in a musical fashion, by all means, proceed without hesitation :)

Warning: Extreme bubbliness.
I dig what goes on this one a whole lot, in that it constantly surprises me and keeps on improving and building a nice structure of little melodic ideas. This is quite far from the straightfoward treatment of the source I initially thought it would be. In fact, the depth to the arrangement is fairly underplayed by the one-dimensional 'happy' sound approach.
The samples aren't my favourite thing about this, and that ending is completely and utterly wrong, but I'm pegging this one up as one of the best explorations of the Chocobo theme done so far, and distinctly upbeat one at that. Unexpectedly stimulating in more ways than one.

I really love this piece, it's cute, fun, and is quite possibly the sonic equivalent of bubble gum.

Nice melodic shifts, it really makes a track that has been beaten into most of our heads surprising and fun. The lead could use a little more modulation and personality, but the rest of the track is great; at least up until the overly sudden ending. Some great breakdowns and detours, into something that is a bit reminiscent of the secret of mana soundtrack.
This track takes the scenic route, and is really fun- check it out, you'll wish every chocobo remix was this good.

Haha, wow, love this one. Can't believe I'd never heard it before today. Ending is anti-climactic, but the rest is just pure fun. Definitely recommend this one.

i liked it. its very.....chipper. I like the way you messed around with the notes from 1:06 to 1:12. i thought that was really interesting, that and the ending to the song, the way you transitioned back to a more melodic approach. All in all, twas good.

A very cute song, and that´s good because chocobos are cute so their mystic life must be even cuter and more
happier.
Thanks for the remix Mexdude, and for everyone else:
Have a nice day.

Being a chocobo myslef...(ive had many owners...though i seem to be worth only a buck...)I find this to be a wonderful experience. I close my eyes and imagine my big yellow wings flapping through the air, soaring high above the clouds. But alas, when the song is over, I start to fall and I wake up from my little day dream. Tis a wonderful song, indeed. It brings tears to my humble choco eyes. Keep up the good work.Wark!

Is it ever possible to grow tired of FF's Chocobo theme? NEVER! I think this mix is an above-par treatment of the famous source material, and would immediately and readily recommend this to any solid FF fan.

Mmmm... I like it. Lots. No really. I'm still listening to it on a daily basis. Fun, bouncy and interesting. Nicely made and keeps the attention.
My only minor niggle with it is it's shortness: the various sections seemed a bit breif and the song could have had another 30s added to it to round it out a bit more.

Ok song, but the ending just irks me... but that seems to be his style
If you have ever heard the many other Mex songs, they all have that same rushed-cheesy-tacked on endings... Now, if he were to end his songs in the same manner as making them (instead of "getting bored and ending it") he'd be such a great composer,
Now ifonly he'd go back to his old euro-techno style....
