Vigilante's previous ReMixes have been good, but he raises his own bar several notches with this excellent, epic rock/jazz Super Metroid ReMix that is not to be missed. Mixing synth elements with acoustic, fluid rock drums and percussion, guitar, synth fx, and a wonderful bassline (yes! bonus points!), this is some extraordinarily dynamic work. There's myriad processing, different drum kits, what sounds like a waterphone for some creepy ambient fx, a flutey mono synth lead, piano, immaculate attention to detail, and just a boatload of memorable, magical musical moments. The recording ain't 100% perfect and the encoding is industrial-strength to comply with our (strict) file size restrictions, but the beauty of this mix shines through regardless. Might be better to listen on speakers than headphones, but either way you'll hear the amount of work Vigilante put it into this opus, which while consistently quality throughout has several moments that truly 'click' musically, with everything falling in to place quite neatly. Though as noted I enjoyed Vigilante's past submissions, this represents one of more memorable, quantifiable jumps in overall musical quality for a given ReMixer that I can remember, and is quite the musical journey. Recommended.

I can't wrap my mind around the fact that this is from all the way back to 2003. That makes this around 9 years old. This is incredible. It competes with new mixes. Absolutely beautiful, and epic later on. This was one of the main mixes that got me onto this site. Kudos. Great job!

I registered AND waited a few days for authentication just post say how much I loved this piece. Very smooth with enough variety to keep you on your toes. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

So I was listening to some online radio stream earlier tonight, and found a nice one called The Spinning Stream. Apparently it's Famicom Fridays too, so they're playing songs that are from or are remixes of tracks from that system. Good lineup; even some ReMixes in it.

That brings me to this. It played this track. I'd seen it before, but hadn't had the chance to check it out (or the drive to do so). However, upon hearing it I wonder why I never did so.

What is contained within this track is a beautiful atmosphere, one that takes the feeling of an alien world conveyed by the multiple source tracks and merges them into something similar yet altogether different at the same time. After hearing it, I came here and downloaded it right away.

I'm rather pleased that it came up; another excellent track is always good to add to one's musical collection. And Vig's track here is definitely one of those.

Man, it sucks that Jesse thinks he is too cool to remix tracks anymore, because this is really good stuff.

It flows really well between sources, and has a languid approach to getting it's ideas out; there's no harried rush here, just some really well done themes spread out over seven and a half minutes. The intensity varies between sections, keeping things surprising, but the transitions remain strong. Pretty excellent stuff. :-)

Awesome remix, I can't believe I didn't comment sooner as I've listened to it countless times.

Apparently I just found out there's even a longer and better version, but it seems divshare doesn't work, it's a never ending cycle of download button click shenanigans. If anyone is willing to upload it to megaupload it will be much appreciated :-)

oh geez, I'm sorry! I edited the link in my previous post.

Thanks, if that mirror goes down I can host the extended version on Tindeck or something :-) Thanks for sharing Liz!

This is really a masterful track, the extended intro was a nice surprise and transitioned pretty well into the meat of the track. The guitar sounds a lot better than it did in some of Vig's earlier tracks, you can tell there was some real improvement on that front.

Honestly, this is the kind of thing I can just fall asleep to just because of how chill it is... at least, for the first few minutes of it. After it takes a more dramatic tone, I can't say it's really as enjoyable for me but I can't deny the musical prowess behind all parts of this song :-)

I dunno if I would consider this to be Vig's best work, as I still like the instrumental variety of Beneath the Surface better, but in terms of arrangement and just sheer epicness, this one wins out. Absolutely stellar work!

I uploaded the expanded version to some temporary webspace if you wanna hear it:

It should be up there for awhile, at least.

edit: link should be working now.

I love this, does anyone still have the full length ogg?

I love the intro because it reminds me of space as being cold and lonely. The rest of the song is just beautiful with the piano. Great job!

One of the truly 'elite' tracks from OCR. This song is so masterfully crafted that I can play it for my dad or my son and both like it. To achieve such tight unity in a medley is hard, but it is done here.

Seriously a 10 of 10.

Beautiful remix. I could honestly imagine this being played in the background at a fancy, romantic restaurant without feeling geeky :D
