Like McDonald's ill-fated-slogan-of-the-moment, I'm lovin' it. This great, soul-bluesy Pilotwings 64 ReMix comes in from newcomer jcd (see jcdmusic.com for more), and is a refreshingly different type of jazz mix, going with a more bluesy, upbeat, feel (similar to the original) than most of the more reflective, even melancholy jazz arrangements we often hear. This just sounds like some guys jammin' on a weekend, for kicks, laid-back - or would, if the production weren't as effected and there was ambient noise, etc. With a deliciously greasy, swishy organ patch covering the bulk of the melody, there's a nice fat upright acoustic, electric piano, drums that stay out of the way but know when to get a bit funkier, competent mixing and processing (delay on the organ is just right), and a solo at 2'13" that at times sounds like a flute, others a soprano sax (mostly due to articulation), but always sounds good. This solo really opens up the end of the mix in a nice way, expanding the stereo field outwards just a little bit more. Nice major key ending with the electric piano. There's a wee bit of clipping or dirt, but it sounds built-in to the samples as opposed to indicative of mastering problems, and either way it didn't stop me from enjoying this mix, and I'd actually say it might have lended a little "sonic authenticity" - at any rate, this is a different type of arrangement for OCR, and for that uniquess and the quality of execution as well, is definitely recommended.

Funky church confessional? It's the organs, man. This is less Barry-White Get it On than up so late it's early, just about to watch the sun rise. Actually, I've done that to this song. Fits perfectly.

smooth and chill, floatin' up there in the clouds. Nice expansion of the original, takes a lot of additional risks that pay off. Good soloing, and while the production isn't astounding, it works well enough.

This is one of my favorite remixes.
None of the download links work.
Somebody please remedy this.

Now THIS is cool. I don't know how it flew under the radar for so long (No pun intended), but this is one I wish I had picked up earlier. When I play this, nostalgia fills the air, and it becomes so thick one can cut it with a knife. Ironically, the first time I heard this, it was very late at night, so all the more fitting! Well done!

VERY smooth remix. Not very radical, instead it just do its own thing by letting the organ talk along with some drums and electric piano. Calm as the midnight itself, when everything goes to sleep except for the stars in the sky. And owls of course, but that's not the point.
Chill and groovy stuff from jcd, you can really feeeeel the love tonight.

I think you did a really good job. It was true to form, but I still like the original feel of mellowness. This was a bit more upbeat and bluesy. The drums went on and off a bit, but other than that, true gold. I miss Pilotwings. Now you made me feel all nostalgic...

When I compared this to Clear Skies (sorry Scott, that remix makes my head hurt) I definitely go for this one. I think jcd did an awesome job with the whole remix. Go jcd!

Totally agree, excellent job! Perfect for relaxing at midnight or any other time (but preferrably at night) :_)

This song is perfect Barry White-"Get-It-On" music. It has a late-night soul feel and I love this song every time it comes up on my playlist. Great job.

One of my favorites. Pilotwings had some wonderful music. This piece has been remixed in a way to make it BETTER than the original, if not much different. I get visions of Ray Charles, bluesing it under a spotlight, singing in that rich voice of his. Every time I hear this piece I stop what I'm doing and groove with it.
For a piece that doesn't improvise any remixing, it sure is nice. I consider it a masterpiece here at the OCREMIX. Not every song has to blow my mind to blow my mind, if you get what I'm saying.
