Time to move your Transylvanian tush with JD Harding's dance version of Simon's theme from Castlevania IV for the SNES, our first representation of the theme on OCR and only the third from this game after djp and McVaffe's own dance-worthy takes on the soundtrack. When it comes to Castlevania, you truly can't go wrong opening up with the organ chords, hearkening back to the original song itself, before introducing the beat at :28 and building up with crystalline sounds slowly moving across the stereo field before a piano and boom-tss groove take over at :42. The piano moves aside at :56 to let some string pads fill out the groove, before shuffling up the beats a little and revisiting the piano at 1:10. Already, you get a sense that this arrangement won't stay in one place too long, as you hopefully notice JD changing up the instrumentation every few measures. 2:04 has a subtle but audible sustained line behind the beats as a way to fill things in, and the piano then comes back to offer some original accompaniment until 2:53. The timing of things does have a bit of a stiffness to it, yet what it lacks in fluidity is more than made up for with consistant evolving of the ideas here right up until the track's last moments during that final fadeout, closing as we opened with the organ along with some of the string pads found during the introductory buildup. Nice demonstration by JD of taking creative risks and executing them with conviction.

This ReMix came back from the dead on 11/29/23, hence the lack of reviews.
JD Harding's last OCR hurrah. While other ReMixers of the day may have consistently produced better EDM, the evolution of the music as we go through the ReMix shows a developing maturity that, sadly, we've not yet seen more of here from him. The way the music opens up at 1:57 with that synth lead injects some much needed freshness at exactly the right moment, and then its continuing evolution with the piano forms a great central segment before the return of the organ at 3:00 cools things off before the climax with all the instruments active. While it's not necessarily something that I could see in a nightclub, it's a solid little piece that takes the listener on a journey through the Transylvanian forests.
Hang on, is that an audio glitch at 3:11?
