Quite the good solo piano arrangements we've seen lately, I must say. Turn the volume up a bit, as this melancholy waltz from SMRPG, courtesy of collective newcomers Blak_Omen and Dhsu, is recorded a wee bit low. Blak originally submitted this some time ago, but it was rejected due to lacking a certain human element. Fast forward a bit to Blak_Omen providing Dhsu, who took an interest in the piece, with the sheet music, Dhsu recording the MIDI file, and MC rendering the final output, and you've got the same very fluid, dynamic, brooding piano waltz you see here, which the judges felt addressed all issues previously cited with the original submission. Even the usually reserved or acerbic Ari Asulin wrote: "HOLY CRAP, very impressive arrangement", which has to say something. Dynamics are very aggressive here, and quiet the more pared-down portions whilst embellishing the ornate passages where the left-hand does some excellent arpeggiating, all of which is very human and emotional. This really takes the original and turns it into something deadly serious, tragic, and beautifully flowing, that you wouldn't raise an eyebrow at if it were to play on your local classical radio station in between Chopin and those high-brow ads for Jaguars and diamonds. At least I wouldn't, anyway. This probably isn't going to put anyone in an upbeat mood; it's pretty maudlin, but it certainly displays a depth of emotion, and thanks to the contributions of its original arranger, performer, and some rendering assistance from MC, the end result is truly something singular and impressive. Recommended.

I'd also like it to be louder, but I feel I should say that this is the song that got me 'into' OCR. Just a beautiful classical piano take on an already excellent, somber track. 6/5 stars.

This is still one of the best piano mixes I've heard on OCR. The source was wonderfully sappy to start with, but you brought it into a whole other realm of gorgeous, gushing romance. Nicely done, you two!

The piano sound is a little on the colder side of things, but the performance is very nice, and the arrangement itself is very nice. I wish it was a little louder, but otherwise, no complaints; this is very emotional and though it's more somber and introspective, I really like it. :-)

I'm a huge fan of piano mixes and this is a terrific arrangement! I don't know how I haven't found this before. This is one of those songs that clearly outdoes the source material by leaps and bounds (no pun intended).

Excellent arrangement and beautifully recorded and and played. I spent no time adding this to my media player!

ok, I've been going around the website for several hours now, and finally I struck pure gold. There is amazing music on this website but this song truly defines the purpose of OCRemix. I registered just now so I could show my appreciation for this song.

I'm listening to it for the 3rd time in a row and I still have shivers. Such emotions involved... poor mallow... his grandfather's a frog... how cruel

Wow, another amazing piano mix. I don't know which of the dudes involved is doing the piano (MC?), but s/he is very talented. Of course, what good is an awesome pianist without awesome music to play? I keep seeing Blak_Omen's name on some very awesome remixes (FF9 Hunter's Etude makes me wet myself). Regardless of who killed who, this is a very powerful and emotive song. You can hear the pain/agony behind it. Starts out slow, works up to a very awesome climax around 2:30-2:40, then slowly works its way down to nothingness. Very nice, very powerful, very moving. So to the guys who did this, keep doing whatever it is you're doing, it's great.

this is my favorite type of remix--solo piano works that take the original song to a whole new level. i love this remix, the melody is hauntingly beautiful, so dark and mysterious, and a little tragic. and (i'm agreeing with everyone else), it sounds like one of Chopin's waltzes straight out of the Romantic period...

Simply beautiful, no other way to put it.

Had I not been a gamer, I would have guessed that this is a piece from the Romantic era.

5/5

That was very nice. The only thing I would change is maybe mix it up a little bit with something other than piano. I mean, keep the classical tone in there but throw some other things in there like maybe a solo violinist. Then again, that's just me. I still give it a 9/10 though. It's a very beautiful song.

Not a lot to add to the other's comments. Perfect piano and excellent work from Dhsu and Blak Omen.
