Hitman and Hitman 2 have been doing a lot for the image of bald men in videogames as being fairly badass, compensating for Abobo and other inept hairless game heroes and villains from decades past. Newcomer Rayagon gives us our first Hitman ReMix with this nice electro-orchestral (or is that, "orchestro-electronic"?) piece, introing with slow-attack strings and a nice oboe solo over a pulsing synth bass and hi-hat fx that take a cool pitch-bend downwards before a stop that then picks back up with piano. The ReMixer writes:

"This is a remix of the menu, main theme from Hitman: Codename 47. That's the one with the badass bald guy who sounds a bit like Chirstopher Walken in hell ("This place seems quiet. Where... do I go... for some action?!") The mix is done mostly orchestral style, with some techno thrown in; it's all got a kind of poignant, determined feel to it, because I figure if I killed people all day I'd have to be pretty plagued by guilt, and pretty determined... but Hitman says it better himself in the mix."
The voiceover quote at the end works well enough, I suppose, but CotMM made a comment that I agree with in suggesting that something should have been done to it:
"a final comment on the voice sample... it's just too dry. It doesn't need reverb, or any of that special effects garbage.. it just needs some sort of treatment so it's not as "HI!!!!111 I"M A VOICE OVER~~!~" all of the sudden. That might be as simple as lowering the volume and panning it just a hair off to one side, or you might just resample the entire monolouge with someone else reading it... I dunno."
There's a nice piano break at 1'53" and a cool pizzicato section that follows it up. Overall, this has some effective harmony, instrumentation, and some individually enjoyable and creative sections. They could have been pieced together to form a more cohesive whole, but the way they're currently juxtaposed still makes for a nice musical journey, and a good first hitman mix and first mix in general.

This is a nice listen - it's more atmospheric/minimal. I think it's a little too quiet at times, especially closer to the end before the monologue - I think it would have been better with more to it before it winded down. As it is, the effect is a little muted.

Pretty nice blend of tech elements and orchestra, I liked how you had a decent amount of synths in there, it made it the mix unique to the few other mixes in this genre. The beat was a bit scattered, but overall things worked pretty well.

That oboe at the beginning sounded almost exactly like the oboe sample in Chrono Cross. Kind of crazy; even the melody was similar. :-D

Pretty crazy piano comping near the end, sounds great but i'm not sure how realistic it is.

Ending wasn't too enjoyable for me. the voice sample was a bit loud, and after that there wasnt a proper resolution, just a half fade out.

Overall pretty decent.

Hi bluestune_1981,

my english is bad 2 but i think he says someting like

I'm a killer, and I always have been.

They say once you taste blood, it changes you forever.

I wouldn't know 'cause

it's been a part of my diet since day one.

What is worth killing for, you might ask?

I wouldn't know 'cause

I've never had any other choice.

I have always followed orders

And taking another mens life

All I can say is that

It's both easier and more difficult than you might imagine.

This remix is spectacular i'd like to hear some more Hitman remixes from you Rayagon

This song is amazing. Very smooth, but like you said, intelligently kept restrained to mimic 47's character.

47 has some of the best quotes I've ever heard in video games. To not include one of his quotes would have been a travesty, and a letdown. You really scored, Rayagon.

Personally, I felt the speech really added to this piece a lot. Normally I'm not a big fan of voices in OCRs, but there are a handful that do it exceptionally well. This piece is certainly one of them. The piece itself, by the way, is exceptional. One of my favorites, for sure.

I guess I stand alone when I say I actually liked 47's dialog at the end. However, when putting the song on "repeat" to listen to it while, say, browsing around the internet or what have you, the endless loops of the dialog can try your patience...maybe there should have been dialog and non-dialog versions, perhaps? :) I just wish there were more Hitman remixes--I love it, especially Silent Assassin's soundtrack (done by Jesper Kyd who also composed the Freedom Fighters score...I think.) Great remix, this one is.

I liked that remix. The tune has a sad note to it, but also has a nice smooth pace, and nothing really seems out of place even though it keeps changing :D .

That voice though, I think it was a nice touch personally. Where is that quote from? I never actually played that game, so bear with me.

Anyway, keep up the good work! It's nice to hear good quality remixes on the site ;)

This was a supercool remix, and i thought the review was much to harsh.

This gets an A- in my book!

I find the speech adds a nice flavor to the mix. I would have prefered it had been toned down a bit though.

In any case, the mp3 clips several times indeed.

The voice over would've worked better at the start, I think

Agreed--or maybe at the very end, over silence, so I could edit the MP3, snip it off, and keep the rest of the awesome instrumentation. ;)

I've taken a liking to Rayagon's style since first hearing him over at VGMix, and this one is more of that similarly-styled goodness. Great hybrid of slow orchestral elements, energetic piano, and trippy electronic percussion. Rayagon loves his reverb, and it sounds good with a song of this style.

One thing--I believe I noticed a bit of clipping around 1:17, possibly slightly before and after too--my speakers, or is it real?

Anyway, good stuff.

Agreed about the speech. It is a good song. And a good speech. But together, the speech ruins the song completely. My apologies if this offends, but it is my candid opinion. Please, for the love of GOD, stop putting speeches in the mixes...!

I liked this mix very much. I like to hear the use of classical instruments turned electronic (Deadly Avenger is a good artist for this sort of thing, if anyone's interested. Picked up the CD "Deep Red" last weekend). Very cool.

The voice over would've worked better at the start, I think, and perhaps a more intense beat would've been good. Overall, a good mix. I'd give it about a 7/10.
