ReMix:Secret of Evermore "A Whisper and a Shadow" 2:46

Arranging the music of one song...

Shariq joins Shnabubula's previous track in offering up some mixage of Soule's Evermore score. Of the source material, the Halls of Collosia theme, Darkesword writes:
"...it was a very atmospheric track, with not much more than a continuous line and embellishing wind phrases. There wasn't much to it (hence the shortness of my mix). I altered the wind embellishments to make a catchier hook, and tried to bring out a strong melodic theme in this piece."
Mucho woodwind work over a running harp line, a moving bassline, a mix of delicate jazzy drums and orchestral percussion, both breathy choral pads and more realistic choir patches, and perhaps most conspicuosly a brisk tempo and swaying, 7/4 time signature. Very filmy texture that reminds me at least during the intro of the (excellent) soundtrack to Sneakers. This is a short piece, basically says what it has to say - even works in a key change - and then exits. Given the source material, a sub-three minute excursion of this nature that manages to be as varied as it does is impressive. The overall vibe is icy, swift, crystalline, and transitive; short but sweet arranging that's par for the course from Mr. Ansari.

The only complaint I have about this piece is how short it is - brilliant and wonderful listening material. My hat is off to you, sir.

This mix has a great sense of purpose, and though it is very atmospheric, it is also very melodic. The texture stays pretty full for the duration, but there are some nice breaks of where it features the arpeggio and the choir vox.
The samples aren't realistic at all, but more importantly, they are managed very well, and their strengths are focused on. It never sounds mechanical, and the instruments sound like they 'should'.
Pretty good theme, and a nice arrangement.

Opens up well with strings and harps, I love it.
It's very mysterious to its nature, the harps and choirs might just make that more clear. The remix was very smooth, relaxing, and the instrument selection is simply great. I feel like I'm running through a deep forest with a smile on my face. I like it when it comes to 0:57, where it brightens up the mood of the piece, it really does make me smile.
Beautifully done, Darke. I'll keep this one then.

Halls of Collosia was my favorite track from SoE to begin with. This ReMix is an excellent rendition of it. It doesn't take away from the ambient feeling that was generated by the original, and yet it adds so much on many different levels. The addition of a chorus in the background is an awesome touch, and it exudes surreality.
Simply awesome work.

Man, that harp is nice and the delayed drums are truly slick (rim shot's a little weak but meh). I love the intro. You could've let that go for another minute and I wouldn't have been upset. It's really cool that the feel of the original is still completely intact even though you've never played the game *shakes head*. Great stuff here.
This is the thing that impressed me the most - the original is probably my favorite track from the game and this remix takes everything great about that song and makes it better. This is a really slick song - very, very nice work.

SoE was a terribly under-rated game , IMO a far better game than Mana anyways.
As for Darkesword's remix , I approve

Yaeh Secret of Evermore was awsome, even if it did have some glitches.
EDIT: Oh yeah and this mix is the first one I've seen that doesn't remove the subtle entrancment that made the origional music so good. This is awsome.

You've never played it?! Damnit, boy!
If I could bring myself to hate you, I'd be sending you a letterbomb.

I loved this remix when it was on rpgamer.com. Just wondering if this is the same mix just resubmitted on OCR, or if Darkesword changed it any?
It's the same mix.
Also, to someone who asked if the title of this mix is a reference to another title on the SoE soundtrack: no, it's just a coincidence. I've never actually played SoE; I did this remix for PRC.

I tried to remix the same song a long time ago...didn't go over well.
Secret of Evermore is one of my favourite games, and I'm glad that Darkesword did better handling that time signature than I did.

I don't care what anyone else says (even though no one's said anything bad as of yet), this mix is awesome. It's my new favorite by Darkesword. First of all, it's from SoE so you know from the beginning it's going to be taken from one of the greatest video game scores of all time. What else can I say? I don't know... download this if you haven't already!

Personally I had fun to listen this ReMix. Very sweet for me. It´s not my favourite from DarkeSword. But it is still very good.

I love the game and I love the song.
Does the title hold an intentional similarity to the Secret of Mana track "A Whisper and a Prayer"? There has always been that rivalry...
