ReMix:The Guardian Legend "Ace of Space" 3:39

Arranging the music of one song...
"Labyrinth: Area 1, 2, 5, 7"
Primary Game: The Guardian Legend (Broderbund , 1988, NES), music by Masatomo Miyamoto, Takeshi SantoPosted 2005-12-12, evaluated by the judges panel
Dain takes off for boot camp with the United States Navy today (after which he'll be able to sing The Village People's classic "In The Navy" with complete credibility), so wish him luck. The ReMixer writes:
"Got a new submission here (obviously) from Guardian Legend. This one's been sitting around on my hard drive for a few months, and I kept forgetting to submit it, but here it is finally. Worked on it around the same time I worked on "Catapult," but it's completely different. Heavily Ace of Base inspired--thus the name--so I made sure to include a thick synth bass and some punchy drums. Just for the record, the vocal sample is NOT me, and it's saying "I make ya feel oh so fine." Had enough confusion about that with other people that I felt I should mention it."
It's definitely got the Ace of Base kick drum and bass, though it doesn't have that goofy Swedish guy doing makeshift raps between vocals about wanting babies, seeing the sign, etc. A little less edgy and certainly poppier than Beatdrop's other works, this even incorporates orchestra hits - tastefully - and also breaks some synth funk circa 1'30". Shariq cites both of these highlights:
"The man knows how to use orchestra hits. Someone get him a drink. 1:30 is funky fresh. For reals. Nice beats + weird vox = awesome. I love the squarewave around 2:20; awesome stuff there."
Dain elaborates on his new life:
"And by no means is my departure for boot camp and career with the Navy going to prevent me from continuing to work on music. Only time I won't have access to my computer is while I'm in boot camp, so don't worry, the beats will still continue to drop.
In the mean time, check out http://www.pulsenetwork.net to get the latest on the development of an arcade dance simulation game I'm involved with, called DanceTrax. The game also features the musical talent of SuperGreenX and Tefnek, among others, so definitely should keep an eye on that. Also available on the site is the entire 19 tracks of disc 1 of the free release of Everlast, my latest album, along with an exclusive interview conducted by one of the project's directors concerning Everlast, my songs in the game, and my future with the Navy."
As this mix illustrates, Dain's improved his electronica-centric approach to ReMixing over the years, in addition to serving as an OCR judge for awhile, so wish him the best. This is probably his most accessible and compositionally varied arrangement to date, and at 3'39" packs quite a bit of developed, elaborate electronica in. We actually haven't posted a more traditional electronica mix in awhile, so this also comes at just the right time to break things up thematically. Kudos to Dain for an excellent departing gift, one of a number of great pieces, and his months of civilian duty here at OCR as well; looking forward to whatever he sends our way whilst accelerating his life, but in the meantime, I'll be listening to this and enjoying my cushy office job.

Yeah, old school feel. This one always has me grinning. It's such a cool piece. ^__^ Inspiring.

This is pretty cool stuff. Not having ever played the original game I can't make assertions as to its fidelity, but I know what I like and I like what I hear. Keep 'em comin'

Pretty straightforward stuff, but very high quality.
Personally i'd have preferred more syncopation in the percussion. There's a whole lot of subdividing, but that's just a personal thing i guess.
Nice synth sounds; all well chosen, and great panning, especially on the descending orchestra hits. Production on this is very strong overall, but I can't help but think the source was a bit too straightforward rhythmically for you to make it more interesting without completely shaking it up.
Regardless, a very good listen.

The part where the main theme kicks in with the loud synth...just sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. It's a shame it doesn't last longer or doesn't do more stuff, though its melody is then later carried by various thing, along with a very memorable grace note piano chord sequence. It's a very unique melody, though repetitive. Its main focus is that of being around a repeating 1 to 7 pitch, or one less than an octave (I wish I was more precise in my definitions), which leads to its unique sound apparently, as I noticed when doing it on the piano.
The samples are nice. Nicer than BD's other stuff I think.

Dance for dinner again? Sometimes ya just gotta let '97 go, peeps. Though, for a dance tune, it's not half-bad. I think there's a bit too much new-age built in and some of the instrumentation was poorly chosen. That's all.

Nice work, very old-skool.
My favorite part is from 2:00 to 2:15, but the end of the song is a little abrupt.

Best Guardian Legend remix ever in my opinion. A must have, awesome baseline. There is also a sweet surprise at the 2:00 that only a fool would argue with.
Cheers! Excellent work. Me likey!

Guardian Legend is quite a gem, that's overlooked. Very glad to see a rendition done, plus with 8-bit vibes.
And to tell the truth, I was an Ace of Base fan. Even though for a few songs.
Overall, an excellent song, and is a must listen for everyone that loves classic games.
Best of luck out there Beatdrop.

Not the best remix i've heard by Beatdrop, but it's a very good mix.

I liked your last remix of the Sonic game and I love this one. Excellent remix.

Fucking great remix. If no one makes a sim file on Stepmania about this, I'll make one. Great job.

I think I've already established well enough that I'm a rabid fan of Dain's music.
My posting here ought to convey well enough how I feel about the piece, in that case. :]

Pretty slick stuff. Love the part at 2:00-2:30.
Good luck at boot camp.
