にほんのリミックスすごいです!! It's great to see more Japanese artists submitting their works here. As some of you may have noticed, we've begun adding some Japanese content, where available, to the site, including Japanese names of game consoles as well as composers. This was facilitated by a recent shift to UTF-8 encoding, which lets us use extended character sets, including kanji, hiragana, and katakana (as well as Cyrillic, as you may have noticed with our last mix) - we're also working on translating our mission, standards, and content policy so that hopefully we can start seeing even more global submissions come in. It's a lot of work, and even though we haven't been posting too awful frequently I can assure you that I've been pouring hours and hours into development to enable these changes. When submissions are as good as this solo piano arrangement from newcomer zohar, there's a lot of impetus. The ReMixer writes:
"This is a solo piano arrangement after "wind scene" in Chrono Trigger. I played a digital piano and recorded using VSTi (Ivory). Host Application is SONAR LE. Sorry... poor English..."
Ivory is the most esteemed sample playback piano currently on the market, so while zohar's English might not be the best in the world (it certainly beats my Japanese), his samples in this case are top notch. Samples alone won't cut the mustard, however, especially in a solo instrumental, where performance is key. Thankfully, this is a lush, flowing, mellow, beautiful, even virtuosic performance of an equally stellar arrangement. There's literally not a single note I would move, the timing and dynamics are so refined. The Wind Scene theme is a dramatic and emotional composition to begin with, but zohar has taken things further with a piece that is extremely intimate and warm. Production is pristine - nothing gets in the way, sonically, of enjoying the artist perform. It's a very exciting time for the site to see more attention from the land of the rising sun, and hopefully our efforts to further internationalize things will help this trend continue. Enjoy zohar's piece for what it is, however - beautiful music - which transcends both language and nationality.

The performance in this piece is fantastic, and the composition is simply incredible. I immediately went on a hunt for the sheet music after listening to it, oh, about 23 times in a row, and am just happy that I know enough about the piano to appreciate what Zohar has done here.
I am constantly shaking my head (literally) in amazement. The creativity shown in the variation of the theme is great, and the lush harmonies always give me chills. Listening to this track has really opened my eyes regarding how to approach arranging, and how to respect the source, but add your own interpretation at the same time.
My favorite aspects:
- The subtlety of the opening is fantastic. How can you not be intrigued within the first few seconds?
- The multiple voices used in the B section starting around 1:45. An awesome use of the piano's versatility here.
- The return of the A section, laying triplets over eighths. Couldn't help but draw parallels to Brahms-style Intermezzos.
- The flourish of emotion at 3:02.
- The homestretch, with the constant eighths in the right hand, laid over the melody in the left.
- The very last couple of measures, with the quartal harmonies. I love perfect fourths.
OK fine. The whole piece is just amazing.

Beautiful arrangement and performance, and the production really lets the details through. The melody has been taken to some great new areas, and the harmonies are very rich. Everything about this mix is great; new counterpoint, vivid tones colors.. Fantastic work, I love it!

Beautiful piano playing. When I first heard this, I actually listened to this song three times in a row because I was enjoying it so much. I love those big delicious jazz chords and all the little fills in between the melody line. This is a lovely interpretation of the song, with enough variation to keep things interesting while still keeping the tune recognizable.
I can visualize this being played in some kind of video game jazz nightclub. Almost an old movie feeling, where you'd see a black-and-white Chrono, Marle, and Lucca sitting around a table in a smoky room, sharing drinks after a long day of battling, while the piano player coaxes this melody out of the keys. The remix evokes a beautiful feeling of nostalgia that fits well with the game's 2D pixel style.
Isn't it amazing when a piece of music can call such an interesting visual into your mind? Fantastic work, I hope to hear more mixes from you in the future.

Some day, I want to re-record and upload to youtube. (I think this piece is more difficult than "corridors of time".)
Yahooo!! thank you for uploading the sheet music I am so happy, time to run to my piano....

A very very wide arrangement. The kind of piece that reminds me that talented pianists just have all out different brains than the rest of us. I can't even fully wrap my mind around some of these chords and harmonies let alone even attempt to play them all SIMULTANEOUSLY with only TWO hands.
Yeah, the full presentation, on a scale from 1 to 'kick ass' gets a 'very kick ass'. Very very very impressive.

Well, I'm always positively biased for Chrono songs, but when a nice piano arrangement can make me smile, the composer has done their job. Amazing job, the dynamics were perfect and the time swings really made it beautiful. Harmonies were very good, and it takes a good pianist to write really good sounding harmonies the way you did in this. Ausome work man, I hope to hear more.

Wow! This is a very impressive arrangement. It is like Hamaguchi's work, to my ears. It is such a wonderful, thought-out arrangement. The piece isn't improvisatory-sounding at all. Very planned and beautiful.

I am unashamed to admit I almost lost it and shed tears several times. Beautiful, moving, crisp, clean, professional, refreshing....just absolutely fantastic stuff here.

Actually, it's リミックス.
The funny thing is that the correct spelling has been on this website's banner for quite some time: オーバークロックドリミックス.
Great piano arrangement! I think it's the best I've seen on this site - excellent work indeed.
これを大好きでしたよ。ゾハーは上手ですね!
I'm glad to hear about the inclusion of UTF-8 into the site as well. It's excited getting a more international flavor in remixes!

Well...no offense to kLuTz or his work, but I think comparing zohar to the stuff that Greg did 5 years ago downplays the genius of this arrangement.
Point taken. I didn't mean to downplay it at all.
Actually, it's リミックス.
Well, Google agrees with you. I stand corrected.
That link... doesn't appear to be working. KF
