Kabuki frogs, my friends... for some reason, the entire idea is amusing. Kabuki in and of itself can be funny, but I personally find that when you add frogs to just about any situation, it's comedy gold. RTF hits us up with our first mixage of Goemon's Great Adventure, part of what's known alternatively as the Legend of the Mystical Ninja series. Caio writes:

"I have a new mix for you guys, and it is from the fantastic Mystical Ninja series. I chose the game “Goemon’s Great Adventure” to pay my homage because that’s probably my favorite OST ever. So great, that I never actually got around to remixing one of the tunes without feeling completely unsatisfied in the end.

The track is "Burning My Soul" (track 20). I used part 1 as my base of ideas, but if I remeber correctly, parts 2 and 3 are more like rearrangments then separated songs (I could be wrong tough). Anyways, stick with part 1. The purpose here was to capture the oriental-flavored homo-rocking goofy-funkness of the original songs and… just let it flow through my filter, really. There is not much I can add in terms of though: it was fun and there’s lotta solos.

PS.: I’d like to thank very much both zircon and JJT for the help they gave me here, and Shnabubula for providing the web space. You all rock and I love you all. And everybody else. And Goemon."

As my own rather intuitive mix title suggested many years ago, the series' osts are filled to the brim with catchy, happy pentatonic melodies. We just got done playing Mr. Bronx Rican's mix montage video here at SITACon, which features Palpable's own, decidedly funkier take on the same source I mixed, and I suppose Caio's take is more along those lines, with more straight funk/jazz elements. A funky drum groove intros everything, with a low octave clav establishing a melodic riff before EP and bass come in.

Of course, Caio always works in some varied instrumentation, so later on you've got strings, organ, and even a tabla breakdown. A dirty EP solo is followed by a sweet synth brass solo, and check out the stutter triplet break at 2'47"... nice. Also notice how the synth brass lead pans left and right - nice attention to detail. Things get more disco after this, with the staple rising octave bassline channeling Saturday Night Fever and... more great synth lead solos. This is definitely a solo-heavy arrangement, and not everyone could pack in this much soloing and have it work, but that's specifically where Caio's an ace... like Morse and others, he's able to work some very delicious, interpretive soloing into his pieces and have it feel 110% natural. Shariq sez:

"Yeah this is pretty solid all around. Very funk, very groovy. I love the oriental-beatz at 1:30ish. Solos are phenomenal and the percussion integration into the solo sections shows a lot of attention to detail."

Sounds just about right to me... if you've been waiting for more Goemon/Mystical Ninja action, RTF and his water-tight Kabuki Frogs have you covered.

This is one of those amazing games with amazing soundtracks that don't get noticed, and you've done an amazing job representing it! I don't have much else to say except that this is being downloaded! You've inspired me my good fellow :).

Super nice Eastern-influenced funk. It's really rich in that 70s and 80s vibe, with a lot of unique touches to make its own identity out of it and bring it in line with the original source material.

Definitely strays into djpretzel territory, which is always an awesome territory to occupy. The solos are off the hook and varied enough to keep everything increasingly fresh.

I can't say I'm at all familiar with the source soundtrack, but it sounds interesting, to say the least. I might have to check it out. In the meantime, I'll just heart this mix as a placeholder.

Did not play or heard the original music, but the

remix could have stood on its own. Very good.

I'm sure I would have chosen this over the

original any day.

The game itself has a ridiculous soundtrack, and this mix does it justice. Listened to it three times in a row, I did. Too much funk for ya soul!

DAMN we have a lot of funk on this site. It wins just for the rock organ. It's so campy I have to love it. The fact that you stole the lead instrument from 'Superstition' gets you some points too. Normally funk and groove makes me go blah, but there's just something fun about this one. I can see Foxy Cleopatra dancing to it, and that alone is enough to make me giggle. Good mix.

loved the remix, loved the game. we need more goemon remixes, that music was great.

forgot though, it's been a while, which part of the game does 'Burning My Soul (track 20)' play? anybody got a link to the original .mp3? :)

(edit: was it edo castle or something like that?)

Edo Castle in flames, last stage of the first world. The place where you fight the freaked out Impact.

Groovy and funky right from the start. Great soloing. Diggin' the breakdown/bells from 1:26 onwards.

OCR needs more songs like this one. Nice work.

This is one of my favourite games, with one of my favourite soundtracks. I'm very happy at the choice of source material! I'm also very happy about the remix! It's very smooth and stylish sounding, with a good sense of what the original is about and a very strong bassline. Good remix :D

I'm glad you like it man. But, if you like the soundtrack so much, help me spread the love! =D

BTW.: It seem I am not able to access the Judges Decision on the song, is something wrong?

BTW2: Nevermind, it's ok now.

I'd like to thank everyone for the great replies. This was a BLAST to make, and I would love to say "expect more", but I actually don't have anything in the works for now (too much stuff going on in life and etc.), so this is probably my last release for the foreseeable future (unless a CERTAIN PROJECT decides to man up and get released).

I intend however, to spread some Goemon love around OCR, which I will do through a combination of vicious political campaign and, eventually, music making (ask AnSo, he already got a taste of my ridiculous Goemon stalk).

Thanks a lot guys.

Breezy; the vibe on this one really reminds me of the pretty awesome and overlooked Aerobiz soundtracks. If you dig this, be sure to check them out.

ANYWAYS, there is a ton of great soloing on this one, especially the heavily panned solo, and some great grooves; Nice and clean drums that punch right through, but still has plenty of room for the solos.

A great morning pick-me-up. Nice work. :-D
