ReMix:Star Fox "Barrel Roll" 6:05

Arranging the music of one song...
"BGM (CORNERIA)"
Primary Game: Star Fox (Nintendo , 1993, SNES), music by Hajime HirasawaPosted 2008-10-20, evaluated by the judges panel
Gratuitous? Sure... but now at least it's out of my system. PrototypeRaptor, aka Jonathan Paulsen, follows his debut FFX mix up with some Star Fox love, anointing said mix with that most famous of imperative exclamations, made famous by Mr. Peppy. Jonathan actually resubbed this one based on judges feedback, and it looks like things worked out. He writes:
"... alright, so I've gone back and revamped my old remix of Star Fox's "Corneria" theme. This theme is one of those songs that is just stuck in your head as a kid...and I've wanted to remix it FOREVER. It's a good thing that it got shot down last time, as I don't think it did the original justice; I've gone back and re-mixed everything, added new melodies, new countermelodies, etc. Hopefully those of you who didn't like the lack of actual arrangement of music from the game will be a bit happier this time around...pretty much everything is based on or around the chords/melodies of the original.
I've also acquired new speakers since last time. (mixing on logitechs FTL) so hopefully it sounds less like "mud men from the swamps of sludge" and more like "star-fox-is-a-bad-ass-game-I-want-to-play-it-now."
... a definite improvement, indeed. In his decision, Jimmy writes:
"This one's got good energy throughout. I'll echo everyone else's thoughts about the vocal clips, but eh, what can ya do. Some people will love it, I'm sure.
I really actually liked the vocoded snippets--thought they were actually pretty unique in their own rights, and we don't hear a lot of vocoded stuff around here. Since Vinnie's pretty thoroughly broken down the arrangement, I can't say I have any qualms there. I'm with Zyko again here. Fans will enjoy this one. Here's to another yes on a trance mix, haterz. :)"
There you go... it's Star Fox, it's trance, there's a good deal of arrangement, and the voice samples... well, they certainly don't let you forget for a second that this is a Star Fox ReMix. They up the cheese/anthem factor by about a thousand percent, and the vocoded/mangled incarnation of the main Peppy quote of note is definitely slick. PR does extend the mix to six minutes plus by incorporating some pretty liberal soloing halfway through, even segueing out of trance into a breakbeat breakdown and working some piano in.
That all works well enough, though I did feel like some of the key changes were over-the-top... it's definitely not a subtle mix any way you cut it, but I feel like it caters pretty effectively to those looking to completely geek out to trance that's firmly set in the Star Fox universe... and damn proud of it. While it's a bit indulgent and flamboyant, it never gets sloppy or stretches beyond the point of musical credibility. Basically, it's damn good fun, Jon made the right modifications with his revision, and it shows off both his love of the game and for trance as well. If Peppy's incessant demands that you do a barrel roll fell on deaf ears, perhaps this will persuade you; either way, it's good stuffs.

Amazing job!!! Star Fox has some of the greatest BMG of the 90' and this theme deserves one hundred remixes at least.

Let's rock and roll, indeed. What an amazing energy-packed trance journey! The synths are just plain perfect and the meaty beat is hella catchy. Also love the glitching transition @ 2:53 with all these acoustic drums and piano. Great job, Sir Raptor!

This is easily one of my favorites. I love just about everything on this remix. The voice FX at the beginning, the trance mix of Corneria BG music. The piano fits very nice, and the intermission in the middle of the music where the original theme is crystal clear is just awesome.
I would like very much to listen to the first reject submission, just to see how much the remixer improved from that to this.

I am not usually a fan of Trance, but this is on my favorites list. Very well done. The samples were a nice touch.

Still listening to this man. By any chance are you a fan of Goblin? Because some of your piano lines seem to be paying homage to the theme to Dario Argento's classic slasher flick/insect power movie Phenomena. At least to me, it totally evokes the feeling of that theme for me.
Love it dude

killer intro- those synths really got me pumped up and ready to dogfight!
I wish the song was a little more intense, especially after that intro, but it definitely has some great parts to it. Nice filters, and that chord progression is great. Breakdown was sick, and overall this was good stuff. Well played, sir.

This is a mix I really enjoy. I have to say that the voice samples in the beginning just make me grin; I can't help but love 'em! I really enjoy how varied it is, and even when it ends, I usually end up playing it once more, just because. :3
Awesome mix!

I like the synths, great arranging of the melody, especially around 1:30. Build ups, a staple for this genre, also very well played
Really love the moding/filters on "Do a barrel roll" that made me smile

I love this mix, brings me back to the olden days of borrowing SF64 from my neighbor and losing the cartridge and to this day I have no idea where it could have gone...but that's another story, for another time.
I usually don't really care for voice samples, but come on, this is Star Fox. It's classic. I could repeat those lines in my sleep, and they add the perfect touch to this mix. Not only that, but every time I listen to this, I am obligated to yell out Peppy's timeless quote regardless of the company I am in. And yes, I do enjoy the stares I recieve.
And the mix itself makes me want to hop in an Arwing and start whooping some serious Andross hide.

First off, nice intro.
I like the voice samples used in the beginning of the song. Yes, it's cheesy, but it's also fun. However, I'm not really fond of the "Do a barrel roll" used throughout the mix, simply because I don't like how the "barrel roll" part of it sounds.
Other than that, there's no real issues here. Nice work.

With each successive listen of this track, it just becomes more and more hardcore for me. As utterly cheesy as the opening lines are, the intro gets me really pumped up.
Nice work!
