Sam writes:

"hey yall... I got last place in DoD cuz I made a garbage entry and the night I found out I was so ashamed, I wipped this up in an hour and twenty minutes that very night and it tied for 2nd place hurray! Everything except the drums are played live with zero quantizing. Enjoy!"

March 2008 was "Sci-fi Month," making the subject material appropriate, but if you're expecting super-electro-futuristic-techno action, this is not the droid you're looking for... move along. Back at SITACon Vinnie and I were chillin' with the good and upstanding people of Armcannon (along with Daniel Brown), and Danimal and I were expressing our mutual respect for the genius of Sam's work. It's pieces like this that earn the respect not just of listeners, but especially of musicians, as sometimes it requires more of a background just to appreciate the performance of craft of what Shnabubula's doing. This is one of his craziest, most elaborate arrangements yet, blending the byzantine complexity of his earlier pieces into a more organic, accessible jazz/funk performance piece. Definitely the best of both worlds - you get Sam's inventive, trance-inducing soloing, with its myriad twists and turns, combined with the fluidity of live performance. Drums may not be played live, by the way, but they're rather insane nonetheless.

You know, I could keep talking, but the more I listen to this, the more I'm thinking I should just shut up... this is an absolutely brilliant exploration on a simple but perfect theme, and stands out even among the artist's consistently impressive work as being a classic.

I like how there aren't any fades, breaks, or volume increments to bridge the sections - the mix is all one cohesive and indefatigable globe-trotter that paves a surprisingly fresh path full of elaborate melodic tangents. I'm a fan of the mellower sections for two reasons: 1) the sexy instrumentation sounds more seductive and in character in such environments; and 2) because of the subtle moods they provoke, like a sense of urgency (1:30), rethinking one's strategy (2:26), and just lyin' back in the bubble bath (3:34). Of course, the rapid drumwork at 2:35 has a spicy punch to it that I can't turn down either.

I will also say that listening to this helped me craft my Norfair hot springs sig (shown at the time of this post). This mix, with its kinky title and erotic tone, is just as bubbly.

Wow, this has a really New Age vibe to it all. The melody feels so woven in between the bass, and it feels so chunkily experimental while feeling so Metroid.

It vaguely reminds me of Vince Guaraldi. I really like this mix, it's so unique that I don't think one could really find anything else like it. 'Tis very well done.

I'm pretty proud to have tied with this track for the DoD in question. Really great time signature changes, and really nice dynamics. I'm not huge on the hard panned bass, but i'll live.

very classy stuff- well played. :)

I need a bubblebath after listening to this - it makes me feel dirty, in a good way. The live presentation is impressive and inspiring, and I love how you threw the NES drumkit in there. Awesome time signature changes. I can't believe you made this in such a stupidly short period of time ::envy::

An amazing mix. :nicework:

1:58 is AMAZING. OMG. It slaps a huge smile on my face. This whole mix does but that part in particular stands out for me. I heard "accessible" thrown around to describe this mix, and I agree.

Awesome bass driven remix. I'm loving the keyboard melody. Very cool stuff.

Also, I love how it all starts to go crazy around 2:35 or so. Nice!

Brilliant use of the source material :) I like the flute and the drums I don't care how they got in there you made them sound just right.

Strings at the "chorus" section 2:20 fit perfectly

I love how this song manages to sound frantic, energetic and jerky while also being smooth, jazzy, and even chill.

This.

Also, the part between 2:35 and 3:00 is insane and awesome. Insanely awesome. Awesomely insane. All of it. And more.

This is so great. The balance in the drums is perfect.

Simple bas line that carry everything. Little variations that make it last forever.

Love the smooth transition at 1.30. So small.. but it feels so big.

So great chromatic stuff after that, and then back to structure. Lovley work.

Love the 1.56 support guitar rhythms that start as well.

One thing I think you really is the master of, is slowing down back into the groove with a soo fitting melody. (3.01)

You are the man and Im your humble servant hehe. You kickass.
