ReMix:Street Fighter II: The World Warrior "Red Cyclone" 2:08
By The Grammar Club
Arranging the music of one song...
"Zangief (U.S.S.R.)"
Primary Game: Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Capcom , 1992, ARC), music by Isao Abe, Yoko ShimomuraPosted 2008-11-25, evaluated by djpretzel
So Shael was instrumental in making this all happen in a couple ways. One, he and Malcos co-directed the original Blood on the Asphalt project, which is what attracted Capcom's attention in the first place. Secondly, he got the call from Rey and instead of saying "OMG talk to no one else, I'll do everything myself, the glory shall be ALL MINE!," which would have been douchey, he called me up and we both ensured things were handled professionally. Last but certainly not least, he got the band he's in, The Grammar Club, to cook up a pretty awesome and seriously unique take on Zangief's theme. I say seriously unique because it's the only track done by a band, has great oozing gobs of live performance, and has a rough, rock feel to it that I honestly wasn't sure would fit the game 100%. Well, I just got done head-stomping the 'Gief to death with my Chun, and the music fit like a glove. Riley also put together the ending theme for Guile, one of only three ending themes not done by José the Bronx Rican. True.
Introing with an electric bass that'll give you chesthair like Z himself, things get manlier still when EP, acoustic rock drums, and guitar enter. The arrangement itself is suited to the live feel the recording has, building up energy at the beginning then busting into the main stage motif. Things drop to bass, drums, and EP, and there's a... scratching solo. You know, for that "urban" sound... actually works really well here, which again, I would have been skeptical of without hearing it first, but that just proves how much I know. For some similar stuff, with the addition of most excellent and humorous vocals, check out thegrammarclub.com.
While this track is relatively brief (as were most of our stage themes, to meet Capcom's two minute requirement), it's pretty self-contained and says quite a bit. Actually, it makes me like the theme better... this was always one of those stages I didn't play as often, and hence a theme I wasn't as into/familiar with, but Adam!, DJ Snyder, Glenn Case, and Shael Riley have collectively put a new spin on it, and it's one of the new tracks that I think was riskier, but conceptually really clicked. The Red Cyclone deserved it, and now you can enjoy Большая победа!! in HD in the comfort of your living room, while listening to fantastic tunage.

Why such siiiick mixes as this one tend to be extremely short? Absolutely rocking stuff, love the title of this track. It matches with mood of this song perfectly.

Listen.
As I'm someone who definitely his fair share of instrumental songs and video game remixes alike...
It's no contest, the vocals in this song make this remix what it is. Fuck yes. \m/

Yo, I know that this the Intrusmental Verison, and I like it, but the Vocal version was one of the best verisons of all time! (I probably just killed that Kayne joke, but hey, at least I didn't write it on my hand, eh Sarah?). I really do like this song. It makes sense that this one would be used for the game. If I heard rapping while fighting, it'd be kinda tough to focus instead of dance. Still, this song seems to lack slightly without the lyrics when heard alone. But it's still a great tune for SF2 it rocks enough to be added to my MP3.

Holy --Someone remind me why the vocal version wasn't submitted instead? The instrumental is nice on it's own, but really the rapping brought it to a whole another level and it deserves to be heard by a bigger audience. Great work on all fronts guys!
AFAIK, it wasn't quite done yet, even in light of the plug for it. I would have submitted that version instead too, but this instrumental is still nice.

It's not perfect, but this is what I've pulled from the song so far:
From the highest mountain to the deepest sands
Yo I got the kind of moves
Make you clap your hands
Full of trained [super supers??] like it's on demand
The kind of discipline none of you could understand
Every day is a challenge
Every day is a test
Traveled all the way here just to prove I'm the best
March into this land and it's in the victory
Me holding the ground is just how its supposed to be
Bring on the game is on
Bring the take down
If ya ass beat'em then I'm going to right now
Shut the match in the closet, your shot
Skills too weak for the strength I've got
With just one move I will take you down
'Cause allow me to introduce you to the ground
Extra large when I take to the skies
Will suprise most but I'm leaving here with the prize
I've wrestled with my demons
Wrestled with bears
At this altitude nobody compares
Hit you with the sleeper
Then I broke some wrists
Nothing like the pound that I hold in my fist
Always like my odds
Even one against a million
You should not be confused
'Cause I've never been the villain
Don't know what to call me
You can call me what they call me back home
Red Cyclone
Life is a battle and
It isn't over until I say so
[son this is?] me and you
You're gonna be my tornado
And I don't know why
I live to fight
Stuff it in right with a bottle of vodka
Burly man laugh if you're done it will sock ya
Not here for dough but I'll drop the elbow
Breaking you in half when a [??] fiasco?
Check here right now
Check your pulse
I'm here to stay
While you're out like a ghost
Pretty young things just get in the way
'Cause I'm not here for work baby this is just play
I get a little more hardcore
Over here
It's all in the fear
The name you revere
Every challenger
I bring them down
Throw'em through the panel
Exposed at what's happened
And you better change the channel
Always like my odds
Even one against a million
You should not be confused
'Cause I've never been the villain
Don't know what to call me
You can call me what they call me back home
Red Cyclone
Life is a battle and
It isn't over until I say so
[son this is?] me and you
You're gonna be my tornado
And I don't know why
I live to fight
I don't know why
I live to fight

http://thegrammarclub.com/Files/The%20Grammar%20Club%20-%20Red%20Cyclone%20(vocal%20version).mp3I just realized that there was a vocal version...despite Dave mentioning it in the write up awhile back. Excellent vocals. Loving it a lot more than the instrumental. Care to give me the lyrics, Shael?
Curse you Grammar club!
You broke every single bone in my body when I was blown away by this impenetrably awesome track.
Can we get some lyrics?
Pretty please?

...and I thought the instrumental was good.
I've had multiple tell me that this mix really brought out the best of the source -- bringing to light a song that was previously unlistenable and forgettable, and turning into something infinitely more enjoyable and memorable.
This really sums up what they've done with Zangief's theme better than I could have.
The vocals really add another layer of awesomeness to a good mix.
I also agree w/ Swordbreaker. can we get some lyrics? Please and thanks.

I couldn't agree with them more.

This is much better. The vocals gave the power this song needed.
Makes me wonder why didn't the band submit this instead of the instrumental. Don't get me wrong; the instrumental is still as addictive as ever to me. But the vocals version is just beyond cool!

Love the sound of the guitar, and the scratching breakdown is great. Though I wonder how well this version fits into the game (which I haven't played yet, lol PSN Europe).

I love this! The scratching kinda reminds me of Linkin Park. Great work Grammar Club. I look forward to hearing more in the future.

I'm curious as to why Red Cyclone added to OCR's library seems to be little more then a merging of the 2 seperate Red Cyclone mixes found in the new album? seems a little silly to me...
Some fans only download singles mixes, some grab entire albums. We post individual mixes created for our albums all the time. Nothing precludes an arrangement from an album being posted to the site just because it was on an album. Otherwise, no tracks from our other 11 albums would be posted as individual mixes. Albums aren't required to meet individual OC ReMix standards for interpretation or production, so being posted as a solo mix is another matter entirely.
