Arranging the music of one song...

Trix may discriminate, but 'TRIX' is for EVERYONE - kids and silly rabbits alike. As we tantalizingly insisted previously with Rayza's winning mix, our Reset Generation contest had some awesome entries. It brought Hayden out of hidin', and Mr. Schwan as well, who sent in this runner-up mix that kicks out some serious funk. Drums are funky-electro-80's goodness, there's plenty of synthsugarsexmagik, but the 800-pound gorilla here is the bassline. It's mixing my chocolate. It's actually churning my chocolate... This is Tepid's best bass work to date, and the part basically carries the entire mix. Sure, there's watertight (as in frog's butt) sequencing, some nifty whole-track filter effects, percolating synth patterns aplenty, and a meaty beat, but the track's raison d'être is da bass. It swaggers between funk and disco effortlessly and is, quite simply, irresistible. You know that rug in The Big Lebowski? The one the chinaman peed on, that really tied the room together? This bassline is that rug... except it hasn't been peed on: unsullied, it ties the track together perfectly.
You need to check this joint out - it was ridiculously close to call when evaluating the competition, and if there had been a separate prize for best bass, it would have dominated. I even love the dying-filter-malfunction ending. Great, classic, instantly enjoyable work from Philip.

Damn, this is sliiick bassline. Very pleasant toe-tapping head-bopping tune. Love the moment at 2:08. While this freakin' sweet tune had aleady taken over me by this time, this part makes it even more better. Like, 150% better. Cool thing.

Yay for chiptune dancefunk. I really like the fact that even though there is a lot of synth-play in this, it's done in a more subtle way than you'd find in a straight electropop rendition. This way, everything can melt in and create one vein of gooey damce.
Things get most interesting in the final third when the layers are really piled on, but the entire mix is remarkable for its sleek, chippy fun. People shouldn't be worried that this comes from an obscure source on the dreaded N-Gage, nor that it didn't win the competition it was arranged for. This is purely fun, purely danceable retro funk with some nicely used sounds and some really great attention to detail. Although it didn't win, we the listeners, are all winners for having heard it (/corn).

Thanks Jade.. I hope to obsess you more with wild arms songs..
Hey hey, lets keep this on topic folks ha.
Jade: I appreciate your comment, but I can't really contend with people you're in a pre-existing relationship with.
Thanks for all the nice feedback, I enjoyed making the track. I actually had 95% of the track finished within 2 days of the competition starting, and came back to add some touches before submitting it. I did spend a large part of both days working on the track though. Wish I had done a vocal edit, but it's still possible (for fun) if anyone wants to lay some down over the track.
Also, I got my 8-Bit shirt in the mail and it's awesome. Thanks!

Trust me I liked this track too, but I can't say I loved it more then Rayza's track. Maybe I'm biased for saying it 'cos I'm obsessed with Rayza.

Invincible.
The synths on this are so smartly done. No excess at all, it's all tight and controlled. Way to make every note count.
A+++

Very 80's-ish synth. Overall very oldschool.
Good stuff. I had never heard of this game before the remixes were posted on OCR, but I have to say that I really like what Rayza and Tepid submitted.
Nice work.

Never played the game, or heard the original, but this has definitely been my favorite mix of the last week or so. I feel bad not getting around to commenting on it yet, this is just so catchy, and reminds me a lot of certain tracks from Mylo's Destroy Rock and Roll album.
The breakdown at the end really takes it to the next level, it's almost like the whole song was just buildup for that part. Awesomeness.
Edit: Forgot to say, this is definitely making the cut on a car-cd I'm making. If that isn't a compliment I don't know what is .

Dude, I've said it before but I'll say it again--I really like this track. Way to give justice a run for their money!

I remember hearing your FF8 Fisherman's Aura remix and really enjoying it, then I saw in the comments that this was French Electro which made me go O_O
And then I listened to it and went O_O Seriously awesome work!

French Electro to a t. You've gotten really good at that man. Very pleasant listen.
