ReMix:Xenogears "Daijiru (Too Hot for Clothes)" 4:27
By Avaris, Mattias Häggström Gerdt
Arranging the music of one song...
"Dazil, City of Burning Sand"
Primary Game: Xenogears (Square , 1998, PS1), music by Yasunori MitsudaPosted 2009-10-22, evaluated by the judges panel
9 out of 10 experts always suspected that AnSo was a "Dirty Swede," and now he's provided direct proof in the form of an awesome 'Dazil' ReMix that uses hentai sounds of lust in musically creative ways. Just look at this short, smug quote from the artist himself:
"It has hentai samples and that's kinda fun."
That's all Mattias had to say for his depraved self, but thankfully Avaris chipped in on production for the finished mix, and provided more helpful commentary:
"Anso handed me a finished arrangement on this track. But it needed some sonic flavoring to keep the pacing good and even throughout. No use in a song fizzling out early. I glitched out some of the percussion in Live, redid some of the sound design, and mastered the sucker. We really had to work hard to get the reverb on the female vocals to sit right on this one. Kudos to Anso for providing a some really slick n sexy compositional ideas on this one! ;)"
"female vocals" is just a tactful euphemism for "ecchi hentai moaning & squealing," so be warned. Actually, this mix wasn't originally slated to be part of the Humans + Gears: Xenogears ReMixed flood, but I really liked it so I tacked it on here at the end. I love the source; Salzman's 'Pillar of Salt' looms large as a monolithic achievement in arranging it, so I especially like that - instead of going epic - AnSo went... sleazy. His mixes always have a clean, elaborate, almost wholesome sheen to them, and that's a good thing, but I like that this one in particular strays from the path and gets a little down & dirty. Vinnie writes:
"I think being a DDR fan and listening to E-Rotic has desensitized me to moaning in music. I barely blinked while listening to this. Is that a good or bad thing? Chill, detailed arrangement that really gets moving in some sections and clearly creates its own style. I dug the atmosphere you two created and the original writing, that supports the mostly intact melody. It sounds well thought-out on both the writing and producing ends."
The processed upright acoustic bass here is downright perverted, sliding this way and that on top of rumbling, Middle Eastern electronica replete with bit-crushed percussive riffs, slinky flute lines, and seductive synths. There's a definite risk that using hentai samples in this fashion will come off gimmicky or trite, but I really think it worked with this source material; 'Dazil' has this sexy, snake-charmer melody that's uniquely conducive to this treatment.
Mattias insists his skills have significantly improved since he originally worked on this track, and I'm sure they have, but I think the final mix is pretty slick, very imaginative, naughty, tawdry, and playful in a way that very few arrangements are. We're now returning back to our regularly-scheduled queue posting, but kudos to AnSo and Avaris for a standout track - one of many standout tracks on Humans + Gears!

So I really need to get back into commenting on tracks; even just
to try to just share the love and try not to be as cringe-worthy
as I was those years back. And so of course I chose the song with
the most downright sexual instrument I could... that bass is
downright explicit! That intro; with the emphasis on the upright
bass? Oh my; there's more than pillars of salt rising from that.
Jokes and puns aside; this really does deserve a touch more attention than it's received over the years. Yes; it has H-samples in it. But would the song be the same without them? Would any other instrument bring that surprise factor? Honestly; with repeated listens, I don't think I could argue any other instrument would work in their place. The "melody" line they play isn't really something you'd get a woodwind instrument to play, and there's no drum that comes to mind that fits with this style of music that can replicate that kind of noise.
Aside for that first intro at :34, the "moans" aren't even all
that exposed (Heh), with a role partway between a percussive
instrument and a lead line. They play with that bass and the
heavily Middle Eastern sound, becoming another piece of the
auditory soundscape. And as I said, I really, REALLY love that
bass. Which is unfortunate, since I'm not allowed to have my bass
up high or subwoofer on most of the time. That funky rhythm,
those dirty note-slides, it's got real skill in it.
Guess this shows the world that there's more uses for the adult
animation audio than just meat-beating.

Uh oh... I feel so... Uhhh... I'm a bit confused with those samples, haha. But hey, let's be honest - they make this track really good The Middle Eastern atmosphere is represented pretty nicely here, though I still can't get this weird combo of dirty samples and hot atmosphere. Wait... Dirty and hot. Oh, I think I just say that I enjoyed this track.

Oh.....oh my. Now, every so often I come across a ReMix that goes to the realm of hot and dirty, and this is one of those ones. Love the use of the hentai samples in this exotic sounding ReMix. Probably not a ReMix I want to be playing with certain people around for obvious reasons, but myself, I thoroughly enjoy this catchy erotic song.

So this one definitely made me stop the first time I heard it (When I was listening to Humans+Gears the first time), and I had to repeat it 3 or 4 times before continuing XD
It really does stand out, but in a good way...

I'll be honest and say I couldn't listen to this at first, but then I got over it and decided to give it a listen...
And I'm glad I did. I wish I could go back in time and slap some sense into myself to listen to this track sooner.
When the moaning came in, I actually laughed and said "Hey, this isn't actually all that bad!"
What else can I say? It's hot, it's sexy, it's funny, and it's by AnSo and Avaris.
... That being said, I still feel slightly ashamed listening to this.
My work here is done.
... Congrats then, you crazy Sweede

Copied from my comments on the album:
"Daijiru" is indeed hot. The...percussion took me aback when I first heard it. However, by the middle of the track all the various elements blended so well that I'd forgotten how ridiculously obscene it all sounds. I'm a huge fan of both artists' work, and I love this piece, but...damn.

I for one would like to know exactly what hentai series/episode(s) the samples come from.
Intro is caliente, each element acting like its own desert thermometer: spicy drumstick-like bass, glassy bells, furtive sine wave-ish beep, and oasis-promising pad. 0:52 begins a few warm-up runs of the theme, accompanied by bells, a counter-lead at 1:13, and other assistants. The wind instruments are passionate, if a li'l piercing at times (i.e. 1:21-1:24, 3:10, 3:27). But I can't get enough of the trashy, slinky percussion at 1:25+ and 2:54+ or the glistening instrument playing the second part of the source (1:44 and 3:29) - they're both bold, attractive players that could shine more fiercely in solo sections.

One of my fav remix on the album.i wouldnt leave the "moaning" for anything. it what makes the mix its own.

Honestly, some of those hentai samples are delivered with such finesse that I think the song would be for the worse without them. I'm particularly thinking of the intake sample you hear at... 0'40-0'41, 1'49, 2'06-2'07. Heh.

I love how this is the only track currently tagged with "Sexy"
I love this song and I'm keeping it on my iPod just because the benefit of listening to it outweighs the risk. Still, it's not meant for polite company, that's for sure
Love it, guys

I feel slightly dirty for listening to it, though.
My work here is done.

Unfortunately this one can't stay on my ipod. I usually play some random songs for some of my middle school classes, and this isn't quite something I can have start playing during school. XD
Too bad, because it's catchy as hell. I feel slightly dirty for listening to it, though.

Yeah, I did a double take on the first listen. That certainly makes the track stand out. On the one hand, I like the track... on the other, I now have this recurring fear of losing my headphones while this is playing and having to explain myself.
Still. Fun times. I like it.
