ReMix:The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask "Awakening the Giant" 4:45
By Mrmilkcarton
Arranging the music of one song...
"Calling the Four Giants"
Primary Game: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Nintendo , 2000, N64), music by Koji Kondo, Toru MinegishiPosted 2010-03-25, evaluated by the judges panel
Newcomer MrMilkcarton, aka Nick Tomassetti, explains what he changed in this resubmission that did end up being approved by the panel:
"I didn't have any future plans of revisiting this song but I suppose seeing the (Resubmit) put a little hope into it. I extended the break to add a little flavor and introduce the harp movement of the song earlier. The original is mostly composed of chords so I consider the lead to be the harp portion. I tried to keep the song within a time restraint so I didn't do an all out trance progression with it. I know everyone isn't a fan of 8 minute songs so I cut it in half, though I could of extended the break to a much longer duration.
Trying to keep the peak interesting while not destroying the overall feel I added more sidechain (I have a fever and the cure is more sidechain). That being said I opened a hihat muted it and chained it to the lead adding some hits on the off beat. It gave it a nice pulsing sound and added some variation to it."
This is a solid, pumping, thumping electronica arrangement of the same source that Nubioso just mixed - definitely check that mix out for something entirely different. For those that love the original and may not be down with rapping/hip-hop or vocals of any kind, this might serve as a good alternative. Personally, there's room in my heart for both, and I love the very front-and-center, Christopher Walken sidechaining and other tweaks Nick made for this revision. Works for Vinnie:
"The production is tighter than last version, making the synth connection stronger as well. I think this could use more variation in how you handle the source, but with everything clicking, this remix accomplishes what it is supposed to, and it's hard to say no to that."
I can see where repetition and source utilization were concerns, but I'm glad Nick stuck with it and polished this past those pesky judges, as it's a solid track that should make electronica & Zelda fans happy. Not rocket science or groundbreaking innovation, just good, fun electro with a good beat and fever-curing amounts of sidechain.

The more I listen to this, the more I actually like it. Not mind-blowing or anything, but it does have a great vibe to it and the energy keeps it going. A little more switching up might have done the trick, but not bad.

I've gotta stop listening to these at work. people look at me funny when I start chair dancing, I love the dance take on this song.
This has to be a crazy level in Audiosurf.

This song is one of those that I like to listen to, but find it way to deep and heavy to listen to while working on my computer.
This piece is fun to ride on Audiosurf.

Isn't exactly the remix i imagined when i saw the oath, but a solid track in itself Loving the dance-floor take look LOOK i'm dancing right now !!

Man i have been absolutely hooked on this song. Always loved the Oath to Order from Majoras, though your remix took a little time to grow on me. Tonight i found myself continually repeating your track as i was playing some games with music in the background, i absolutely love the sound, thanks for hanging in there with it so that we could all enjoy the final product!

it really does have a lot of club-worthy energy.
This.
I enjoy this remix. Granted, the gated synth is cheesy, but it doesn't bother me that much.

This has always been on of my favorite songs from the Zelda series (not quite as good as Gerudo Valley of course ) albeit such a short one, so it's good to see that remixer's are taking notice. This mix feels very easy to listen to, as well as entertaining. I prefer this mix over Link to the Mask (no offense). This leaves me hopeful that there will be more wonderful remixes such as this from what I feel to be a greatly overlooked Zelda game.

This song is a strange one - it has some issues I feel, but it's fresh unique.
At the least, even if MrMilkCarton doesn't like it, he brought it for everyone to hear - thanks for this interesting take!

It repeats a lot, but it really does have a lot of club-worthy energy.
I think something like this is a great canvas to do a mashup with that has a lot more melody. It's not something i'd normally listen to, but I think it is well done.

I don't like it.
If I had to do this song all over again I would do things very differently. Anyway, the track is quite old and it shows in the mix. Bad synth choice lead to cheese. The kick is weird I'm not even sure why I liked it. I suppose I wanted to do something different and the song isn't my normal style of weirdness. The lack of good percussion (which someone managed to pick out) makes me feel bad.
No future plans for another remix but, who knows. Depends on where my career heads. At the very least people enjoy my name.

Original = beautiful.
Remix; after listening it a few times, really like the percussion incoming @ 1:44. Nice outro too, no sudden cut offs or weird fade outs.
Great track!

There's a difference between OCR music and music you hear in the world. Then there's good music that everyone likes.
But yeah I found a bit of an issue with repetition in this remix.
Also, the composition of it was a bit empty... it wasn't empty, but I didn't get as much "full" sound I wanted from it.
But nice gated synth. I wish it could've been changed up a bit.
How is it different? I treat OCR music the same as everything else I listen to outside of this website, music is music. But let's not get carried away on this guy's remix thread( which is a sweet ass name btw lol) pm me if you want to debate this some more. Sorry xD, back on topic: nice remix lol.

Repetitive, but it sort of fits with what the songs going for. I guess. x.x From 1:00 and onwards the track gets REALLY good. This is going to my iTunes and iPod though.
This mix absolutely destroys my speakers though. I'm surprised they didn't explode 10 seconds into the song.

Ok, I i'm listening with headphones speakers atm, so can't comment much on production, might edit later.
Arrangement wise, I can see this appealing more to the masses than some of the OCR peeps, due to the repetitiveness of the track.
Personally, the repetitiveness is a slight turnoff for me, but that said, I know there are going to be alot of people that really love what you've done here.
Oh, and best remixer name ever. That is all

This is good. I don't see what issue with repetitiveness is. I hear music in the club just as repetitive. Nice club feel and the production's good I gots no complaints.
