Another Seascape... like Soundscape. Get it? Of course, I personally would have titled it "Another Swedescape," but what do I know? Mr. Wheeler writes:

"Much love to AnSo for being a huge, huge inspiration. This mix is my response to his indescribably wonderful Ecco 2 mix 'The World's Smallest Giant' - a song that truly moved me and was the entire inspiration for this track. My intention was to create a spiritual 'sister' track; one seascape among another, if you will.

I'm mainly arranging 'Two Tides' from the Genesis version of Ecco 2, and 'Heart of the Giant' from the Sega CD version makes a cameo appearance. This is my first time stepping outside of FLStudio for a ReMix - the bass, a few pads and various bits of percussion were designed and sequenced in Reason 4."

So we now have mixes from the Game Gear, Sega CD, AND Genesis versions of Ecco 2. That's a whole lotta dolphin!! Different soundtracks, in each instance, so it's a testament to the developers/composers that they put the extra effort in to personalize the music for each platform's release.

It's always cool when one ReMix inspires another, and this is great stuff, but before I go much further I'd like to announce new staff members Emunator, halc, and Nutritious as workshop moderators. What's a "workshop moderator," you ask?? Basically, these individuals are here to provide focused, structured feedback for mixes posted in the workshop "Post Your Game ReMixes!" forum. They're not judges, but they might be one day, and either way they've been selected specifically because they've got a lot of experience mixing and/or providing feedback to others. Give 'em a warm welcome and, if you're looking for feedback on a mix you're working on, feel free to request their assistance - there'll be an additional announcement in that forum w/ specifics!

Now, it's fitting that halc use Reason after being inspired by AnSo's mix, since Matthias himself swears by it. This mix intros strong with mangled, echoing chip textures and establishes an underlying synth pattern that Andrew uses to develop bell-tone melodies over. Check the descending, cross-panned gated breakdown pattern at 2'23" - love that shit, wanna steal it and insert into my next five mixes. The snare is a little 808ish, lending an old-school flavor to the beat, to go with the old-school synth textures, and towards the end we get what sounds like some birdcussion in there. Tasteful filter/fade ending leaving a nice chip percussion groove running ends the whole business with style, and the final product is a really hypnotic, enveloping arrangement. There's not a lot of dynamic/tonal contrast, so it's not particularly narrative, but for zoning out and being ensconced in a chipscape of percolating sound, you could do a lot worse. Great stuff from halc, who brings his A game (along w/ Reason) for an AnSo-inspired night on the ocean.

I've always been a fan of the music of Ecco: Tides of Time and halc's remix is superb work! So chilled and relaxing. Those chiptune style arpeggio's are amazing!

So soothing and peaceful. I really love Ecco's soundtrack, so hearing another quality ReMix from it makes my night. Halc's delicious chip-tunes show up to add some charm to the light, watery, floaty instruments of this piece. Glorious and nice work on the title as well.

I go on these late night remix-listening commenting binges...catching up on stuff I never remembered to download...I can always hear/see in my mind a dance group like the Jabbawockeez dancing to something like this, all super-synchronized-slow-like. Great late night tunes for when you can't sleep.

This would be funnier if anso had collabed with him.

Regardless of the funny title, it's a nice mix. I enjoy it thoroughly, and it really showcases some great chipwork.

EDIT: Earlier tonight, I was a bit angry. Then this song came up on my randomizer... and soothed my rage. It's like he captured the calming power of water in his chips. Phenomenal!

I'm actually headed to the beach, so if I see any dolphins I'll play this for them. I won't, but still. :D

Oh my lawd, so good!

It actually reminds me strongly of a desert for some reason. It's just one of those mixes where I can close my eyes and be transported. Powerful stuff, these chiptunez.

0:34 onwards gives me quite a strong FF7 vibe, though I'm too lazy to go through the game's soundtrack and figure out which song this remix reminds me of (probably the place where Spoiler Spoilsborough dies).

Other than that, nice ambience (birds!), good choice of synths/effects on them.

I really like it. This is the kind of music I like to listen to when I'm researching something or looking at a National Geographic magazine and the like.

Great job on this one Halc.
