Newcomer blackguitar writes:
"This remix had been planned and begun nearly six years ago when I was making my first experiences with software synthesizers. The actual mix was now made from scratch again. The three main parts of the melody are subject to differ each time they appear in order to remain interesting, although I like the natural catchiness of the tune. When I played the game, I liked the constant feeling of being lonely against the hordes of enemies. In my opinion is this what the melody delivers. Nothing could sound more tragic like a heavy metal ballad, so here is my remix."
Been awhile since we had some Metroid Prime action - now Shariq's mellower, hybrid electronic arrangement from 2004 has some rock/metal company. Before I say anything else, look at how positive Jesse was - I almost think he must have been "self-medicated" at the time:
"You've got a distinct Opeth-type thing going on here with the acoustic intro leading into metal. Awesome writing in terms of melodic expansion and interpretation. Right off the bat I dig that you took the melody for your own after the initial hook. The arrangement just continues up and away managing to escalate and escalate and never get boring. I'm amazed at the energy that is sustained.
On the technical end, this is easily the slickest metal production we have on OCRemix. The mixing is great, the guitars sound great. If I must complain about something, the kick sounds just a bit papery, even for the genre. I'd dip out a little bit at 1kHz and maybe boost a bit around 3kHz. Sounds like you used a Beta52 perhaps just a bit too close to the head. The other thing is that I might like to hear a bit more reverb on the snare. But really these things are just nitpicks."
Other judges didn't necessarily agree that the mix had impeccable and/or superior production, but were unanimous about the arrangement and overall execution. Vinnie writes:
"I really love this, there's a ton of variety within what is a pretty basic source. There really aren't a lot of original sections here - almost all of this uses source - but every iteration handles the source differently. And then what is original is seamlessly led into. Love that acoustic intro that adds some Spanish flair that I would have never expected. A very well-crafted, enjoyable arrangement.
While a great production, I don't know if I'd go as far as saying the best either. Those rhythm guitars could be more pushed back and muted to give some breathing room. But that starts to get into personal taste."
Intelligent & creative arrangement, excellent execution, unique source, and pretty damn solid production all adds up to a really well-recieved debut mix that should get some serious attention. Hopefully the artist follows up with more, as this is a very promising introduction!

This is one of my favorite Metroid Prime remixes on the site. Loved the melodic embellishments, tangents, and direction in general. I hear Vig's crits, but man, some nitpicks there! My favorite instrument is that distorted rapid arpeggio that plays alongside the guitar. Slick production, slight lossiness aside. ;D

Oh hell yeah! Love that intro right before it kicks it up with that heavy metal riff. Honestly, the title source I was not expecting like this, but it sounds amazing. And those bells that kicked in later on just added.....more to it. The little voice bit was a nice add on and between the arrangement, production and guitar work, this is one of the best ReMixes I've heard in a while. This would be the most badass waltz in history to have.

Easily one of my favorite remixes on the site. As much as I liked the source, I didn't think it would work well in this sort of style. Clearly, I was dead wrong.

Love this. This waltz does just fine on its own- it rocks out far too hard for polite company, anyway.

Great GREAT Remix, one of the best. I listen to it a minimum of 3 times a week.
10 out of 10!

Gotta be one of the best, if not the best Metroid rock track in OCR. Hope to hear more from this artist!

Sick remix. When I saw another Metroid Prime remix, I wasn't expecting the title sequence.
Really?
..... Really? You weren't expecting the title theme? It's probably the best track (closely followed by Phendrana drifts) that is original to the game.
Yup, this is good. Granted, I have listened to the metroid metal remixes and countless youtube covers, but this is fantastic if for nothing else than having that awesome intro. Yup, nothing else constructive to say other than some fanboyism.

Just like everyone else, I dig the acoustic intro.
Good arrangement, very nice guitar playing, smooth production. It all comes together to form a very enjoyable remix. Well done.

I have to admit, this is a track I honestly didn't think could even *be* remixed, outside of some sort of "Trance/Techno" thing. But this track really blew me away; it had a lot of variety, especially given how simple the original was.
In short, this is one of those tracks that makes me hold OCR so highly.

Been waiting for a remix of this. Never thought it would be in this genre but it works surprising well. Thats why I love ReMixes. Hope to hear more from you.

Wow fantastic work. Really awesome instrumentation. I agree with everyone whose given positive feedback. My only gripe would be the voice sample halfway through. The SM3 sample is not that great ... we've heard it a million times and even tho I absolutely love SM3 I think it is a slightly overrated sample and I struggling to find the connection between it and the music you've so artfully produced. It turns a track that could standalone into a kinda geeky track which is fine but slightly spoils the fun for me. Congrats tho... can't fault you on the guitarwork. Gold!!
