Willrock writes:
"One thing I have noticed about remixing video game music frequently is that every now and then I come across some theme from a game that I have never played before and like it, and the turnabout sisters theme from phoenix wright is one of them.
Knowing pretty much nothing about the game (all I knew was that the main protagonist was a lawyer) naming it involved me researching the series, various stories that I don't remember about cases that involved beating people round the head with clocks, and from all my hours of research I came up with the name True Evening, which apparetly is the english meaning of maya's Japanese name. Yes I did too much research. Anyway, I like the name think it suits the remix.
SOOOOOO.... I was listening to a lot of europe and bon jovi at the point of making this remix which comes out in the means of big synths, big drums and confirmation that I was born in the wrong era. So obviously, style wise, this remix sounds exactly the same as every other remix i've done :P"
Nice. Counselor Wright is currently in contention for addition as one of our upper-right-hand-corner site mascots, and seems like a shoe-in, so the timing of this mix can only support his case. Sugary, sweet, synth-driven, melodic light pop that'll make you feel comfortable - Vinnie sums it up well:
"Reminds me of an early 80's sitcom theme, like Silver Spoons. Very warm and floaty, dreamlike soundscape. I think you did a great job with the backing parts, very colorful. This might be my new favorite of yours, though it helps that I love the source."
You can almost picture Mr. Belvedere's stern face, mid-chastising Wesley, melt into a knowing, avuncular smile. Or Kirk Cameron make sarcastic remarks, when deep down he actually cares, before he became a crazy proselytizing fictional firefighter person. Will's other mixes have varied in degrees of their respective "eighties-ness", but this one takes the cake; I was half-expecting Limahl to start busting out a vocal. Will shows us that smile again, tells us about the facts of life, doesn't move to the beat of just one drum, makes a go, makes it grow, and learns all about those things you just can't buy, to paraphrase the cathode rays of my youth. Personally, I love me some 80's TV theme songs, and this really DOES sound like one, so whether he was trying to capture that feel specifically or not, he succeeded. Excellent sweet & warm stuff from Willrock that really crystallizes a lot of the best elements of his style in a single arrangement.

Sugary, happy, and upbeat beyond anything else, this is just one of those ReMixes I just can't listen to without smiling. It's a really good feeling ReMix and it does have a bit of that 80's sitcom feeling in it's melody. I'm down with anything that pays any kind of homage to 80's and puts a smile on my face, so I'm down with this ReMix for sure. Damn good.

I really, really like this track. This is perhaps my favorite song on OCReMix. It's both corny and cheesy, but I don't care. It's the bomb.

Love the upbeat nature to this tune! Like good cheese, this is delicious and comforting.

Ridiculously happy and upbeat song. The synths are incredibly cheesy, but it's not the kind of nasty, disgusting cheese, but the delicious, very tasty variety that these synths are smothered with.
I was around in the 80s, I enjoyed the big hair, I enjoyed the synths, I enjoyed the Phoenix Wright games. Perfect premise for enjoying this song.
Nice work.

These are all things I would be saying if you'd actually played the game. Tut tut.
To answer any queries posted by people in this thread - No, the synth solo is sequenced (all my solos are), No, I wasn't born in the 80's but i'm probably the only guy who liked the big hair in the era who wasn't around in it, and yes, gap company, but this is the last remix I've used that patch in up to this point

The amusing thing is that while his remixes seem to have some 80s flair to them, Will wasn't around in the 80s. But, that's all right. Anyone who pays homage to them is quite all right in my book.

This song is made of win.
An excellent interpretation, the nature of the melody indeed supports the genre you aimed for. The execution is excellent, the effects on the guitar blend it with the rest of the synth driven instruments perfectly, the re-interpretation aspect is just present enough.
You're a machine Willrock.
