Arranging the music of one song...

So, two ridiculously great Sonic mixes down, two to go! Next up is Joshua Morse w/ some Sonic 3 action. While it's all been unilaterally great, it's still a little refreshing in a sense to be posting a non-album Morse mix, just for variety's sake.
To get it out of the way, yes, this is an 'Ice Cap' mix. However, just as AnSo yesterday proved that he had something to say about SMB's 'Overworld BGM' (1-1), we know that jm isn't going to send in just any old arrangement of such an iconic track. He actually made the track as part of "Obligatory Ice Level Day" over at http://oild.thespeedgamers.com/ - check the site out for more music & fan art. This is an 80's synth-funk jam in the truest sense of the label, with a sticky, moist, and sexy groove that's equal parts nostalgia and jam. Sound design on the FX adds supreme amounts of flavor to an already rock-solid 80's funk/pop arrangement. Once again, you've heard 'Ice Cap,' but you haven't heard it like THIS. I just saw Hot Tub Time Machine for some reason I'm still not 100% sure of, so the timing's particularly perfect for all the 80's staples.
Not much else to say - yes, it's been thoroughly covered, up one side and down the other, but it's still a great source tune and still obviously yielding different & extremely worthwhile interpretations. Make your fourth funky and get your patriotism on in cool, retro fashion w/ jm & OCR!

I denfinitely didn't expect to hear such take on da classic Ice Cap - groovy and funky, hot and toe-tapping, but without any bit of ice.

Oh, yeah! Now this is funky and amazing fitting for the "retro" part of the title. The very beginning intro is a bit...esh, but after that it becomes a groovy ride that you hate to see stop. The breakdown in the middle was just too sweet and this is probably the most different version of this theme that I've ever heard. Always a good thing when you can take an arguably over mixed tune and bring something new to the table.

This is a funky song and the fact that the source material is mellow and open, makes for an interesting mix The chords or note groups or whatever you call them that start the song and go throughout are a little bit discordant. Maybe that is just the genre, I don't think I have listened to this genre before.
Anyway I do like it.

The company never officially confirmed it (as far as I'm aware), but some people that worked on the game and at Sega said in a few interviews that he did contribute.
Now, this mix here is irresistible. Great work.

Showed this to my friend, and he thought it was Michael Jackson.
Great work once again by JM. ^.^

Definitely nailed the 80's sound. The very beginning with the ultra-in-your-face synth (0:00-0:15) is kinda grating IMO, but once there's more going on, this particular synth isn't as disruptive, though it still rubs me the wrong way.
Other than that, pretty awesome arrangement. Nice breakdown starting around 1:30; same goes for the solo around 2:30. Actually, all the breakdowns and solos are frigging sweet.

Gets a bit off track of the Ice Cap theme for some way extended solos, but I was generally jammin, so i'm not too put out.

Morse can do no evil. This needs to be played at the next bboy jam for the poppers to get down to.

Really tasteful take on this source, solid production, funky groove, and sounds appropeiately like Micheal Jackson in some places. In other words, awesome
Pretty accurately sums it up. It's far different enough to be funky fresh, even though there are times where I definitely feel like connection to source might be stretching, but considering the style, that's entirely appropriate. Shows how far one can go with Ice Cap while still keeping it Ice Cap, if that makes sense.

Fascinating... Too many years ago the original blew me off my socks and made me wonder if there were such people who remixed this stuff, only to discover when I finally had internet access that this tune was the most remixed / hated of them all... But this, this is magic. The retro in the title isn't a lame joke, it's real and it's absolutely stunning. Made of win, awesomess and with epic sprinkled on top
Now I am wondering, though, when we'll get an Ice Cap mix a la The Baseballs. That would be pure awesomeness...

There's some really strange chords around 1:10-1:30 or so, but strangely enough, they work. Amazing production here.

I like 80's music. By default I should love this to bits and I do

I downloaded this remix but I am afraid to hit play. Ice Cap + Joshua Morse = ?????
Can the universe contain this?
I'm pretty sure explosions are going to be involved. Wonderful explosions.
