Been busy with the RL lately (sick + work + class = bad), but it's time to get back on track. I'm a huge fan of Robbie's work - I still find his super-obscure DarXide ReMix great fuel for late night coding/working/mixing/whatever. Now he sets his sights on 'Wily Stage 1'; yeah, it's a popular tune, but you can be pretty sure his take on it isn't gonna resemble anyone else's. The artist writes:

"Okies, so this is my first submission in years haha. It's a remix of the renowned Dr Wily 1 theme from Mega Man 2, and it's called 'For You'. Before you wince and think 'SHIT NOT ANOTHER WILY REMIX!!+1DIKHEDZ!!-1KooLPoiNTZ', I think it's kinda unique in the fact that it's rather lyrical :D

So, I started this a year ago, but progress came to an abrupt halt when my PC died (twice). I would have liked to have added a little more to this, but I've lost a lot of my original sounds and vocals for this, so that would be a large task to re-do it all again... work keeps me insanely busy.. which sucks, but I digress...

I'm quite happy with this as is. As previously mentioned, I have indeed provided my own vocals for this remix. I don't profess to be the best singer around. And yes, I have AutoTune-ddd my vox up. But even in the time since I recorded the vox for this, I have improved quite a bit. But for the time being, it sounds ok, at least to me. I don't see it as a horrible thing (AutoTune, that is), unless it's detrimental, in which case it's up to you guys to decide. My use of Auto Tune will sure to be a point of contention... It's not perfectly implemented, but hell if I'm gonna let a few off notes keep me from trying to sound ok :D I have a story to tell, and I hope it's come across decent enough to be heard.

Lyrically, it's quite vague... but at the same time I feel quite visual. You can make of it what you want... whatever you see while you listen to the lyrics, it's correct. Of course, it's rather personal at the same time... it's definitely from someplace deep inside. But as much as it was important to get a specific emotion out of me at the time of writing the lyrics, it's as much about whoever listens... I hope it's Anthematic (is that even a word??? O_o) enough for the masses to relate to"

Robbie loves him some vocals; it's a staple of his arrangements and I'm personally glad he continues the trend here. Like he says, he's not Pavarotti, but I think it works, and I like the lyric & how it oscillates between vague and specific. It's clear that Robbie could have cleaned up the vocal tracks a bit further had he not been victim to multiple crashes (back yo sheet up, folks), but even as-is I don't find the production gets in the way much. AnSo writes:

"Digging this. The arrangement and unique approach weighs up for the slight lacking production. Like Larry said, the vocals needed some de-essing and they're wobbling pretty badly. The piece as a whole though is really nice, flowing and an interpretive arrangement. I personally liked the key change, very eurovision song contest! :D"

God bless Mattias for making that reference, so I didn't have to :) Always fun every year playing the Eurovision drinking game, doing shots on every spontaneous power key-change. Diea adds:

"I remember really liking this one when I heard it in the WIP forums. There's been improvement since then, especially with harmonies and production. The lyrics really work for this song, and they fit creatively into the melody."

Great downbeat chill synth-pop from an artist who it's great to see - and hear - back in action.

This song does still rule. Also part of the reason I do vocal things - just not as well. :-) I come back to this a lot.

Just came here to say that this song still rules.

I love this song a lot. Played it on repeat quite a bit the last few weeks.
This is a very good example how to sing video game melodies. Things are changed up in all the right places, but the melody is still there and recognizable. The autotune doesn't bother me at all, but I listen to a lot of rap with overly autotuned voices (sometimes even more so than this) so I'm just more accustomed to it. The dude's got bars, and that's all I really care about. And speaking of, the bars are great. Writing is very emotional and straight to the point. The tone in the voice is also on point, your emotions are coming through quite a bit.
This is probably one of my favorite vocal remixes on the website, and for good reason: the execution is just great. A lot of more amateur singers try to hide any flaws behind the music (I'm guilty of this as well), but I like the confidence of this piece a lot. He keeps the voice in front, and lets the rest of instrumentation back him up, rather than letting things get too crowded. I love it.

Of all the vocal remixes I've listened to, I must've sung along to this one the most. It's that fresh and inviting.

Highlights:

- At 0:32/0:33, the extra tonal downfall on that last word ("...it came to be this way...") feels like a deeper, bolder step of uncertainty and self-doubt into the unknown. It works so well.

- The drop of most synths halfway through gives compatible breathing room for the more reflective, farther-reaching lyrics ("So it's been written through the ages of time...").

- While the first chorus projects a feeling of regret and resignation, the higher key at 3:12 colors it with confidence and the courage to turn a new page in one's life.

I think this is the first ReMix of this theme I've ever heard and I love it much more then the other ReMixes of Wily 2-1. Seriously, there's a ton of guitar-centric metal covers of the original (don't get me wrong, some of them are pretty cool), but this is the only one vocal-based version, which is quite awesome. It's also pretty chill, I think. Good job!

I love the song. I love it so much, I was considering figuring it out for an acoustic cover (-100 internets, but what can I say, it's not the first OCR track I've wanted to cover, and the creator of the first knows who he is, I was asking about chords via Facebook). And then I got...well, I think it's in F# minor. 8-O

This is a problem - I have trouble playing chords in F# minor, and this song hits me where it hurts at the moment, because this is exactly the circumstance I'm currently in, having finished high school and had a massive fight with the girl I had a crush on, one of my best female friends. It fits the advice everyone has given me - one day I'll learn to move on, but until then, I'll be hearing this song and thinking of her. Hence why I wanted to learn it, I wrote an original song about how the way she treats me makes me feel (at the time she was ignoring me) roughly two years ago, and if I could get this song down, then I'd be able to have the two sides of the coin - the crush, then the results of trying to act on it.

Nice to be running into so many great vocal ReMixes here lately. This one is great, and the feeling that you can imagine between the music and lyrics makes this one of the best takes on Wily 1 that I can remember. Wonderful arrangement, great production, and it's just plain good. Can't get much better than that.

Was casually browsing OCR's YouTube channel, and I was surprised to find that this song is the 5th most viewed/listened remix in the channel right now, with more than 20000 views. So kudos to Akumajo for this quick rise in such short notice.

When I thought Dr. Wily 1, I always thought OKKUSENMAN. Now when I think of Dr. Wily 1? I think of this song. It's beautiful and when it was first released I would play it, repeat, play, repeat, play, repeat... and so on and so forth. Heck, even today I caught myself doing that again. So I figured I ought to post here to say as much!

I didn't expect too much from this before listening, truth be told. Overused source, blah de blah... then I listened and the sound was great, but the vocals had me sold. I love them and the lyrics, autotuned or not.

Sorry, I guess my friend was wrong when he said it was overly emo. I just felt that they were as well; I was wrong. Sorry.

It just sounded like it. My bad.

All I'm saying is that the lyrics themselves are pretty emo.

Don't get me wrong, I love this song. The lyrics are emo though.

Yeah, I can tell you the lyrics are most definitely not emo. Nice to see you can pigeonhole something so quickly, Mirby. Tsk tsk. Were the lyrics written with a specific emotion in mind? Yes. But 'Emo' they are not.

Anyway, thanks for all the awesome comments guys. I'm really, really glad you all enjoy the song! :D

This song demands a music video of some gruff, angsty dude inside a steel factory: singing towards and away from the camera as the factory grinds and shoots sexy sparks of light while he walks towards the camera without a shirt. Glad whoever is reading this now has that envisioned in their brain.

...goddammit.

Anyway, nice remix. The autotune doesn't bother me; unlike in many other modern songs, it's not overused to the point where its usage becomes painfully obvious and annoying.

Nice lyrics, too.

Keep 'em coming.

This song really hit home because of some recent things going on. Thank you for putting such a situation into words. Well done.

All I have to say is this.

This song is emo.

Yes, because love is emo.

[VERSE 1]
Her words unspoken, with silence to blame.
How she tries
to gain the courage to understand why
it came to be this way.
These words of wisdom, time and again,
go unheard.
He knows it's not her fault
that it was all in vain..

..we all bleed the same.
Our differences are great,
but not enough to separate us from their lies.
We tried; We did our best.
Why can't you look into my eyes?

[CHORUS]
And she said "my friend you know there's nothing we can do
Just let it go.
Secrets never show themselves.
You'll learn to just move on,
Till then this song is for you."

And he said "the only way to learn is to experience the pain.
In that way we're the same" Oh...
They turned around and parted ways.
This song is for you.

[VERSE 2]
So it's been written through the ages of time.
From pens of ancient masters to prose of the modern mind.
A tale to be told.
And now we find them holding onto their faith.
They've tried all that they could,
but we know it's just to late...
...to not end up alone.

The Jury overthrown.
Their differences are few,
but not enough to see them through.
It's such a shame.
They wonder whose to blame...
...or is it just that we're the same?
