Arranging the music of one song...

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to present OverClocked ReMix's 22nd arrangement album, in collaboration with the Bad Dudes, featuring ten hero tracks from some of your favorite games paired against ten villains from the same franchises, it's Heroes vs. Villains! Grab the torrent right now, then head on over to http://hvv.ocremix.org for the full enchilada. TMNT, Kirby, Street Fighter, Metroid, God of War, Streets of Rage, Mega Man, Zelda, Monkey Island, AND Castlevania... with musical styles as diverse as that setlist, this is twenty tracks of VGM POWER from some AMAZING artists!!
That bold capitalization and double exclamation ain't just for show, folks, this is the real deal. Mustin first described his vision for this album to me at MAGFest 8, and since then Mazedude and ktriton stepped in as co-directors and saw it through to completion, with Chris also doing the (awesome) website. Mr. Bronx Rican came through once again with an amazing trailer you may have already seen, and every last artist involved contributed some of their very best music; trust me, you're in for a treat. I think it's a great concept as it allows for stylistic and source diversity while retaining a cohesive theme. Will might trump right, or will the forces of justice and morality prevail? Ultimately, the outcome of this matchup is moot because - trite as it may sound - WE ALL WIN. Mustin, Kunal, and Chris all chipped in on this collective message-from-the-management:
"Bringing this project together made for an amazing experience. Everyone brought their "A game." The "challenge" aspect, in which each Bad Dude had to step up against the OCR crew, really pushed everyone to work their hardest. And it was a great working with some new faces and bringing in some different styles from the OCR group.
The biggest challenge was having so many different people working on so many different games with so many different teams. Diversity was inevitable, but keeping the project together as a cohesive work was always top priority. The end result is that the music is incredible and that you, the listener, now have some new favorite music. Heroes and Villains? It's however you want it to be. Even though the project started as The Bad Dudes vs. OverClocked ReMix, the end result is that we're all just doing what we love, and the VGM community - at its core - is still strong and working together.
And if you're reading this while listening to the album and still have a face, congratulations. But don't freak out when your face starts melting. We warned you."
Just like that dude with the glasses at the end of Lost Ark...Neither you nor Marion have to look at it, though, just be sure to LISTEN, as HvV is packs punch after musical punch of great themes, brilliant arrangements, and more than a few surprises into a devastating combo. I hate to employ marketing-speak, but in this case there really SHOULD be "something for everyone". We start the flood off with bLiNd, representing OCR on behalf of TMNT:
"This is a remix to the title screen from the first TMNT game on the NES. It's not quite the Turtles theme, but it does have a little bit of the melody in the main riff (the first few notes at least), and in the remix I hint to the Turtles theme here and there. I wanted to give the original track's energy justice with the remix, which I believe I accomplished. I also originally wanted Danimal to play the guitar parts, but he got busy travelling and it wasn't able to happen, so I faked it with samples.
This track seemed hard to complete, as I scrapped 2 ideas before coming up with this. It seemed to work well as drum and bass with heavy guitar leads doing the riffs and melodies so that is how I kept it. To keep it fresh I ended it with some hiphopish dub bass like melow beats. I wanted to add some vocal sample of splinter from the second movie, ended up not, but maybe if I ever perform it I will drop that in the set..."
Ah yes, Vanilla Ice, encouraging ninja everywhere to go... ninja. All while wearing pants and sporting hair that, even at the time, in their original context, I think we all suspected would be looked back on unkindly by history. This ReMix sure won't be, though; definite curveball from Jordan, who employs far more guitar than I've ever heard him use and throws a changeup towards the end with some dubbish, more downbeat fare. Production is crisp and really pops, separation is great, there's a lot of variety to the tempo & flow, and some explosive energy. Great mix, great way to start things off, and a GREAT album.

This track is just bursting with energy, holy shit! I think that such guitar-laden D'n'B works pretty well, and even though the guitar samples are probably not the best, they sound very nicely in this context. The second part of the song was quite surprising, but nice as well. Good job!

I got to hand it to bLiNd, he knows how to electrify the hell out of a song. This ReMix has a pretty nice blend of drums, electronica and guitar, and the second half of this song was pretty interesting. A nice change of pace to go out on.

Go bLiNd go! We’re halfway there! What a very mystical sounding track… it’s beautiful and awesome. Everything starts to come in at 0:44 with epic guitar. A very fast-paced track, worthy of them heroes in a half-shell. Breakdown at 1:40 or so. Everything comes back at 2:11 with a solo of sorts. Breakdown again at 3:00 or so. I guess the turtles learned how to shred… suppose that cancels out Shredder’s shredding or something… This very basic part continues until the end.
Every time this song comes up on my media player, I have to turn off shuffle so I can hear danimal's track in conjunction.

Turtle power!!
Often times when coming towards a work of bLiNd I often am open to sense some top quality electronica. This to me succeeds in its goal even with its strong production values all the way through, although in a different way I might expect.
It starts off pretty appropriately, referencing the theme subtlely with this nice downbeat intro with power chord bells that give it somewhat of an oriental vibe, before suddenly exploding full-front in a dnb/guitar-lead mashup. If I'm going to be fair that's probably not the best synth guitar I've heard, but for the track it still has an appropriate presence. This feel ended up doubling up, but the melody manipulation the first time around and even the trip-beat when the beat comes back in again start to capture more interest given towards the track.
What I felt was icing on the cake to me was what seemed like a fake ending right after with the ominous pulsing bass, before going into a solid hip-hop oriented section with plenty of gate and synth manipulation work that showcase bLiNd's nature as a producer as well as an arranger. It's those kinds of moments that show exactly how much tight details one would put in towards the genre and maintain interest towards the listener at heart, and thus is one of a number of reasons why bLiNd is seen as a huge fan favorite around the community.
For that Bad Dudes project, it works immensely! And given the recent trend towards drum n' bass, I'm feeling quite the anticipation towards his next few site releases. Roll on bLiNd's works for 2012 and beyond

Jordan, great stuff man! I don't know which I liked better, that spacey triplet ostinato part or the ending part starting from 2:57. The whole has a really polished, professional production and really interesting conceptualization/execution!

I really loved the intro, but was let down when the guitars came in after 40 seconds or so and the whole track seemed to lose power.

Ooh, this is tasty. Grom nom nom. Highly original stuff from bLiNd, awesome synth guitar work, and a killer beat? Hell, with all of that, and I don't even mind when the track settles down a bit! Good stuff, dude!

what to say.. more A-grade work by bLiNd. I guess I'll at least mention that the transition into the slow bit until the end was downright sexy- great work, man.

heh, for me, this was pretty standard stuff to start with. Then it kicks in at 0:45 with some of the craziest guitar synth wankery i've ever heard, topping it off with some insane energy levels. Love this one bLiNd, you really are exceptional at what you do

Go, husband, go!
As a big TMNT fan with my Donatello mean face fingerless gloves, there is not much I can say about this track, but an obvious thumbs up from me. He worked really hard on this track and I demand more, good drum n bass tracks. haha I'm a big fan of Asian samples in tracks. Since he executed this one well, he needs to remix some Naruto tracks...

Mix is epic, and a solid leading foot for HvV.
But Dave, c'mon dude, despite the write-up reference, no linkage for
