Last but never, ever least we've got album co-director and renaissance man, the one and only dude of maze, Christopher Getman, repping the BD for some Mother Brain mixage. Trying to predict what Mazedude will do for any given mix is like playing the lottery, only your odds may in fact be worse; he does what occurs to him, simple as that, and he's got a divergent, creative, quintessentially musical mind. This arrangement is controlled chaos - calculated cacophony - as Maze channels the hemorrhaging hive mind of Super Metroid's big bad with a jaw-dropping arsenal of textures, percussive and otherwise. The artist writes:

"I knew I wanted to tackle the Mother Brain theme since the initial conception of this project. It's a theme I've always had 'on the brain,' so to speak, considering the unusual use of the 7/4 time signature for a boss theme. When it came time to remix that, I had a blast taking the odd time signature motif and applying it to the drum 'n bass genre, one that you hardly ever hear in 7/4. The end result was challenging, but a lot of fun, and I'm quite proud of the result.

The title is a nod to Dieselboy, a drum 'n bass artist who I listened to a lot while developing this track. Nods also go to RS3; thanks for the samples and inspiration."

Truly crazy stuff, pulling some wild transitions that are unique even among Mazedude's landscape of divergent, half-sane gems. It's dark, it's menacing, and it certainly fits the "villain" framework in style & substance, countering Jimmy's more celebratory, heroic arrangement with sheer, fierce force. And so the day ends with equal helpings of heroes and villains, ReMixers and Bad Dudes; from just these six mixes, hopefully you've gotten a taste of how awesome Heroes vs. Villains is. Spread the good word, seed the torrent, and enjoy the awesome vision that Mustin, Kunal, and Chris coordinated and that a ton of talented artists made real.

That 0:47 drum loop is something else... the fakeout was cool. I think this might be the dirtiest remix I've ever heard; 2:50 onwards is just ridiculous. The surprisingly calm outro only adds to the mystique. Insane remix, awesome stuff.

Djp's phrase about Chris' mixes is so damn true. So... I've heard a lot of DnB, but this track is something else. I really like how the beat dominates over the main melody. I also like all the timesig changes throughout the track - it feels totally like a wild, scary adventure... with an anthemic break  Love it!

I'm freaking terrified while listening to this. Yet I come back to it occasionally. Only a master can make a song actually scary and yet.. intriguing :D It's like a haunted house you want to visit at night, just for the chills.

Now this is a villain theme! Dark DnB with pure evil mechanical sounding arrangement, and I'm so there. That shot at Samus with Vincent Price laughing is classic. I have to admit, Mazedude always seems to nail it right on the head when you need to add a little chaos to the mix. Well done.

Dear god, this is great. I don't remember ever feeling so legitimately afraid listening to a song. o_o

Really good mix, definitely my favorite on the Heroes vs. Villains album.

Chris is the most beautiful insane I have ever listened to. I was blown away after interviewing him once for my site, but he has exceeded expectations with this remix. The inclusion of Samus' theme just before the 2:00 mark was priceless. Then, to have it ripped apart and mocked by Vincent Price — it was masterful.

If I was wearing a hat, I would tip it to you, sir.

This remix has a very cool and creepy atmosphere. The pads had something 'evil' to the track, but heh, that's a BAD DUDE track. Also, lol @ Vincent Price/Thriller laugh, totally random but awesome.

Good job, keep on doing great stuff man!

I lol'd at about 1:57 when the Samus theme comes in for a moment sounding weak and tinny, then it kicks back to the drums with some maniacal laughter

This is exactly why I check OverClocked... I haven't been so struck by a remix before since the Aphrodite Oceanus remix for secret of mana. It's incredibly potent drum and bass, very precise electronica - and as others have stated, quite haunting. Fantastic work.

I heard Chris's WIP before I even got started. Originally, I thought I would try to incorporate some DnB into my own mix along with other elements from the MoBrain track. I never told him this, but after hearing the first WIP I was like... Dayum, I can't compete with that

So I ended up just doing pretty much the total opposite which was like straight up orchestra + Baywatch anthem rock.

Anyway, this track continues to rock my socks off.

I remember freaking out after hearing Chris' first WIP of this.

Totally and utter insanity, which Chris somehow wrangles into a palpable, veritable song! Awesome stuff as usual!

Love Mazedude's music, he is an expert at getting both the macro and the micro right. This arrangement is like an auditory nightmare, and those carnival blasts of dissonance are genius, but then when you look at the programming... man, that's intricate. Awesome stuff.
