ReMix:Mega Man 2 "Mechanical Flare" 3:28

Arranging the music of 2 songs...
"Flash Man Stage", "Metal Man Stage"
Primary Game: Mega Man 2 (Capcom , 1988, NES), music by Manami Matsumae, Takashi TateishiPosted 2011-04-02, evaluated by djpretzel
Rockman does Rockman; Mr. Harby did my work for me, for the most part:
"WillRock ReMixes flash and metal man. You don't say. Will he ever do anything original? Will he ever do anything that isn't 80's? Will he ever rock? Will he ever stop ripping off digital love? No, No, Yes (one day in the very distant future when alien-cyborgs have taken over planet earth) and Maybe. But not yet. Untill then you get 80's daft punk rip offs of sources I've done before at least 10 times, all in the same style. I should go left field and do a combination Aboriginal Folk, Boogie-Woogie and Celtic Rock, which would be called Aborig-Celtic Boog-Woog Rock."
Sniffin' glue again, that daffy guy... WillRock joins Stevo as the dynamic duo of additional workshop moderators, so you'll be seeing them around on the forums providing feedback/guidance on mixes that will hopefully one day show up here. Props & thanks to both for chipping in! This electronica Grand Robot Master Remix Battle Mega Man 2 mix is actually a little different; even if the production & style are par for the course - which is fine by me, personally - I feel like the arrangement is more interpretive & creative. I really love how Will's not only mashed up these two themes into a single, seamless jam, but also given them a much more major-key setting. The soloing @ 2'27" is indeed straight outta 'Digital Love', but it also works, and if you're gonna nod your head to a synth solo, that's certainly a modern classic that deserves the homage.
Since these are two songs that most of us know very, very well, I think many listeners are going to be able to appreciate how recognizable they both are, but how naturally & creatively they've been recontextualized; deceptively easy to groove out to & dig, but it's really a very sharp, smart arrangement that's a step forward for WillRock, who was no slouch in that arena to begin with. It's the type of arrangement that would impress me even with lackluster or barebones production, which is certainly not the case, plus it does something pretty damn new with two sources that have seen a LOT of combat duty, so kudos there as well. This may not be "Aborig-Celtic Boog-Woog Rock," but to me it's clearly another step forward for a talented artist, and a big one, and it's a Mega Man 2 mix that really stands out.

Yeah, I can hear some of the Daft Punk in this, and that's not a bad thing at all. Solid electronica, good blending of themes, and naturally Willrock pulls an ace with the arrangement and production. Now, about that Aborig-Celtic Boog-Woog Rock idea......

Golly, this is an excellent slab of prime electronica.
Superbly light, clean, reflective sounds here that sit on the border between chiptune and high quality synth. It makes for some ultra, ULTRA catchy melodies that have been really well arranged into something that sounds both instantly familiar and refreshingly new. It may be my favourite arrangement of the themes I've heard to date, and that's saying a lot considering how popular they are.
Not too much to say about the mix, to be honest. It's yet another slickly manufactured, effortless electro-opus from WillRock, whose track record just gets better and better.

Even before reading DJ Pretzel's description and this topic for that matter, I could definitely recognize the Daft Punk influences in this song. More specifically, the song "Superheroes" from their "Discovery" album as this song uses a very similar chord pattern. The parts near the end are my favourite because that where it sounds like a Daft Punk song more than ever including the signature synths used in many of their tracks. Great stuff and certainly one of favourite remixes now.

Definitely hearing the similarities to Daft Punk, though WillRock's song here seems to be a bit more chiptune-ier.

there was a post a few back that said WR just entered god tier...you're a little late. He hit god tier back with his stint with the GB Zelda mixes. WillRock has just stuffed god in a pokeball and shoved him in box 30 with all the others he will never use.

you have so many [awesome] mega man remixes I can't keep 'em straight anymore.
as always, remembering this from the robot master compo; epic chillin music. continue being awesome.

This is actually one of my favorite songs from Will's library, even though it's not necessarily the most intense or technically-amazing composition. It's got an understated quality to it, like some of his other mellower remixes, that I'm really fond of. Plus, the melodies are ridiculously catchy - I know that the combination of themes here wasn't REALLY your choice, but it still works well!
Fantastic summer-afternoon lounge track.

This is really something else. We've all heard songs utilizing more than source before but usually it's one then the other in a fairly direct fashion, this mix literally blends the 2 songs together in a way that it's almost like you're listening to both at the same time, yet it feels completely natural.
I can't think of any previous mixes that have managed to blend 2 sources quite the way this one has, I am really impressed! Did I mention the song is also extremely catchy? Not exactly shocking, it's a Willrock mix, but hey! I knew I was going to like this but wow, this is just spectacular, probably my favorite mix of the year so far, and it just fell into my lap out of nowhere, keep cranking em out man!

When i saw the source i thought "oh great chuck another megaman 2 remix onto the pile of millions" then listened to it.
My god man how did you know i love digital love by daft punk, this actually sounds like a sequel which was never made for that song and the discovery album by daft punk.
And i love ever second of it.
I don't know how you do it, but please make more of it.

Man, two rockin' mixes in a row makes me happy. I'm totally psyched for summer's return. WillRock can take all the time he wants on his way before he branches out, while putting out his anything-but-standard fare, although...an Abor-Rock mix sounds pretty awesome.

Oh, it's by WillRock! I don't even need to listen to it first to decide if I want to download. His remixes are always so awesome that it's an automatic download for me every time he puts out a new track!
