And now for something completely different... well, different from the previous mix, at least. For WillRock, it represents yet another GRMRB electronica track where he again blends 'Flash Man Stage' with a different robot master, this time Magnet Man, which may have been evident from the mix title. He writes:
"Ah The Grand Robot Master Remix Battle. Sometime after I lost against gecko, I ended up against txai in revenge. So, a little bit of background first... Remember Door into Chaotix? Well I was interested in the genesis sound chip, whatever its called... >_> Well I liked to try and make music that sounded like it was an updated version of that sound, and thats what I did with Door into Chaotix. Then I found a soundfont called "the ultimate Sega Megadrive/Genesis Soundfont". Yeah, you get the picture. So I took that concept of adding genesis sounds for my GRMRB match and even tho I beat txai, I found my mix to be... lacking. So fast forward to a few weeks ago. I was messing with Reason's Thor and Maelstrom trying to make some cool 8-bit drum sounds. I succeeded after some tricky sound designing (give me a break I dunno how they make those sounds on the nes).
I got something that sounded pretty close, and redid my original remix to incorporate some 8-bit elements, and then brought in the genesis infused part after. I still thought the sound design might not be "grand" enough for ocr so I put in some more complex sounds at the end of the remix and you get a bit of a journey. Starts 8-bit (sorta) goes to 16-bit (sorta) then goes to just regular music (sorta). A bit unorthodox but I like the idea. So yeah. Hope you enjoy this. Later dudes."
I'd say the result is INDEED grand; the sheer amount of ideas, harmonies, solos, modulations, textures, and FX here is really impressive. Little grace notes, bends, trills, breaks, and slides just sound like Will was spazzing the hell out - but in a talented & coherent fashion. It's maximalism, and I suppose listening to it you might even guess that it was made for a competition, i.e. to impress, but it's also a really FUN, wild trip, showcasing Will's technique, blending 8- and 16-bit textures into an exciting 24-bit stew, and introducing some wonderful twists & harmonies into the source melodies. I think Will now owes Flash Man a cosmic, karmic debt for facilitating so many awesome mixes, this being the fourth, that incorporate his theme ;)

Really nice idea with the 8-/16-bit styles. Synth solo around 2:00 is insane, awesome, and awesomely insanely awesome.

Yay, a WillRock song with a synth lead again! ...And chiptunes? Surprising. The song sounds thin for some reason to me - maybe it could've used a little more in the mid areas at times? Something bothers me about the thinness, but overall the song sits in a good place goes places you don't really see with Mega Man music.

Terrific! I love how it progresses from start to finish. Oddly, someone else asked me while I was playing this if it was from a sonic game, and I can hear the style a bit. Upbeat, lots of energy and very organized. Nicely done.

Ah, I loved the updates this one recieved, and I also loved the original. Which one I like better is actually hard to say, I think the less maximalist original was actually REALLY enjoyable. My (and my best friend's) personal favorite. But I think this improvement is still quite the improvement. Great job on both accounts.

Gotta say that WR is one of my favorite remixers as of late on here, with this jam being no exception. The first 1:05 is a fresh take on this level unlike other remixes I've heard of this song (LOVE that little ad lib at 1:02-1:04) and can't go wrong with the Flash Man mix in 15 secs later. Ending wasn't my cup o' tea, but oh well...
Generally dig the whole vibe of this song, which is becoming the norm with Rock. Cheers!

mhm. Good enough to download, but not the kind of style I was expecting from you, Rock. i'll give it another few runs, but the 8/16-bit play turns me off: It sounds too much like it belongs in a game and needs someone to remix it.
Hahaha, we're getting too old for this shit. "Sounds like it's from an old game, looking to be remixed" is a new one.

Wow very nice Willrock! When I saw this on the front page, I was hoping it just wasn't a direct post of your track from the GRMRB. While, I enjoyed that track a lot, this definitely feels like the definitive version. The expanded length, expanded soundscape, and the tons of nifty transitions and solo elements really stood out in the version. It's a very fun and enjoyable track! Good work!
For the record, I would never have subbed the original, it just didn't feel like a finished piece of music

Not my favorite of all of wr's work. Still replaying Showdown in a loop on most car trips. But it's still textbook Willrock style, bending source material around his little finger and saying "well these sound good together. and throwing two games in a blender with a dash of synth and sauce for a well rounded sound that delights me everytime. I think it's time to package the man's mixes into an OC album of their own (honestly i think there's enough for a 2-disk sp. ed.).

Loving this new take on a frenetic track. Even the original tune went all over the place. Love how it keeps the harmony fresh with every pitch. Makes me wish that this was in a new Megaman game ost.
