I don't care what is the real genre of this piece - I just enjoy it. For its length it sounds a bit repetitive, but I'm glad it has a lot of small drop-offs and subtle changes, like the lovely piano-led section a 2:22, so it's not a big prblem. Nice work!

Reading "jazz/dnb" in the write-up, my first reaction was "wtf", but then I remembered that this is also something that describes one of my favourite tunes on this site: Jungle Jazz. And, surely enough, I fell in love with it within 20 seconds.

The part around 2:30 has a very Ridge Racer Type 4 vibe to it, IMO.

Whoa. I completely agree with chrisdlugosz. Although I would like to disagree with him on one point: I think of Kraid as the swank bachelor entertaining his guests.

must-dog this is hotness. it makes me imagine that i am some rich mogul with the swankiest bachelor pad of all time in some high-rise downtown at night, and this is my ambient music that plays all day, [ incidentally a subtle homage to metroid for those who recognize it ]

I love the modern electro elements tossed in throughout... really appeals to my adoration for house/dnb. the subtle glitching works brilliantly as a transition without clogging up the soundscape's pipes, and I love the use of empty space to create contrast

Oh, how did I miss this? I think this represents what a lot of remixers were TRYING to do in the early years of OCR, but with a more grown-up sense of production and musicality. Jazz or not, I love it.

To be fair, most people have been saying 'jazzy' which I'd say means 'jazz-influenced' more than 'of the jazz genre'. Perhaps this is merely an extension of your rage at The OneUps frequently being called a jazz band (a complaint which I would conversely deem entirely justified)?

Well, I called it "jazz/dnb" in my writeup, but let's approach this from a different angle - I've seen Mustin get upset over The OneUps being called a jazz band on Twitter, etc., but if you don't give people a better alternative, they're going to persist, and I don't remember any suggestions, nor am I hearing any now. This is the problem with genres - they sometimes require the "least worst" selection, because nothing else intuitively presents itself as being more accurate.

Serious! ...Let's just all take it easy on labelling something as Jazz just because it has 7 or 9 chords and/or a saxophone. Just listen to the audio examples I gave. It's pretty clear what is Jazz music. The influence of Jazz music can be found in all styles of music, but I think "Jazz" as a label/genre is much more narrow.

Hmmmm... I actually think it'd be preferable if we instead all took it easy on negating the genre classifications of others, rather than expressing 110% certitude that any given piece of music A is expressly not genre B or C, because it lacks characteristics D E. That all seems a bit rote, especially when some of the greatest jazz musicians of all time have embraced a definition of the genre that is expansive inclusive rather than limiting categorical.

But we can agree to disagree - it's a great mix either way.

Serious! I'm so frustrated with everything I do (even rock) being referred to as Jazz. If you played this tune for a REAL Jazz musician, they would scoff and possibly laugh at you if you told them it was "Jazz." I don't want Jazz musicians thinking that what I say I do is Jazz as I feel it would reflect poorly on me, making me seem ignorant.
