Heroes vs. Villains was a badass album, and I'm not surprised at all to still be posting some amazing tracks from it. Tonight we've got the dynamic duo of Briggs & Wheeler, collectively known as Insert Rupee, with some chiptune-infused electronica that shows off Kirby's Mr. Hyde side - halc writes:
"This remix is... decidedly different from our previous collaborations. Our goal was to choose a "definitive" Kirby theme, which are almost always happy and bouncy, and give it a darker more aggressive feel... considering the nature of the project, it seemed fitting to kind of evoke the sense that Kirby was saying "put up or shut up" or, you know, showing his darker and drug-addicted side. We're both really proud of the final product, and it should be noted that Ben was only able to write the ending and finish the remix with the aid of a dangerous amount of alcohol. Enjoy, bitches!"
Mattias explored the life & death of the Mario Brothers back in 2010, and now IR provide a similarly titled electronica biography (electrography?) of the pink, capacious one. Larry invoked a rare fried chicken comparison here, so you know he liked it:
"As always from these two, lovin' it. It definitely retains Kirby's sonic palette while twisting & warping the original with delicious 9-bit spices. Almost as good as Popeye's spicy chicken."
So while there's room for improvement to achieve deep-fried parity, it's pretty great in its own right. OA extended his compliments all the way into the tantalizing realm of personal hygiene:
"Excellent variation, lots of creative and interesting ideas, and you both smell nice."
Concise, but accurate. Save for that last bit; I can't empirically confirm or deny that, but it rings true in my heart, which also tells me that Frodo is still alive. This jam is packed to the gills with chiptune frills, which rhymes, and it's clear that rupee was FULLY inserted & brought their collective best to the table. If the devil's in the details, then he's all over this one, as the syncopation, beatwork, bends, trills, and other little goodies make this a truly epic mix.

It's actually damn cool to hear a ReMix of this theme that's not too upbeat/bubbly/pink/etc. You nailed it, guys!

Nice chiptune-electronica take on the Kirby/Gourmet Race theme. I do like the way this follows the edgier feel of the other Life and Death styled ReMixes. Cool use of Kirby's SFX too. Another win for Insert Rupee and a very nice track from the Heros and Villains album.

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting when I first heard this but I am pleasantly surprised.
This song makes me bouncy.

Hey dudes this is super-duper cool, I like how seamlessly you guys blend chiptune and chiptune-esque sounds to the point where I can't tell what parts of this could actually be produced out of an old NES soundchip and which ones couldn't. It's pretty neat Love the original writing you guys threw in here too, it fits perfectly.

Very well done David and all of the other producers I love the bit sounds and all the other electronica elements put in. Very nostalgic. Makes me wanna get an N64 and kick more Smash Bros. butt

most people aren't very familiar with the "Gourmet Race" in Kirby Super Star, the game in which the source originated, but when they used it in Super Smash Bros. for Kirby's default level theme, it essentially became cemented as "THEME OF KIRBY"also we like being dicks to the database

Is there a particular reason this is listed as mix of a Super Smash Bros song rather than a Kirby song?

This is going to be in my rotation for a long time. I've been groaning over the repetition in my playlist for literally weeks, and this will definitely get things moving again. It makes me want to go get some Popeye's.One thing I wanted to ask: Is there a particular reason this is listed as mix of a Super Smash Bros song rather than a Kirby song?

I loved this mix when I first heard it on HvV. Completely awesome rendition of a classic Kirby theme. Great work!

An incredible remix. The heroes took the gold in this Heroes vs. Villains match-up; my Dedede remix doesn't even compare. Great use of chips, fun fusion, and I love the Kirby sound effects worked in there. Great job!
Your Dedede remix is still amazing in my book.
At first I didn't pay attention to this track when HvV first came out. I was to busy listening to the other great tracks on the album. But when I finally got around to hearing it I found myself loving this piece a lot. Lots of chip and electronic goodness coming from this song. I would *puts on shades* "Insert a Rupee" to listen to this remix.

Reminds me a lot of the Life and Death of the Mario Bros. that djp mentioned, which is one of my favorite ReMixes on the site. Fantastic work!

Very fun track from two very talented chiptune artists. The source is one of my favorite VG tunes, and hearing it like this was awesome. The arrangement was nice, production was top-notch, and overall just a very nice track.
