Arranging the music of one song...

Our first PR mixage of 2012 comes in the form of a vocal electronica/rock track from Sonic Adventure; Jonathan writes:
"PrototypeRaptor here with a new remix of a oft-loved but rather underrepresented game: Sonic Adventure for the ill-fated Sega Dreamcast. I loved the opening theme from the moment I first watched the intro cutscene and have wanted to remix it forever, but I could never settle on a particular style to do it in...
...until I realized while listening to the Pendulum album "In Silico" that the song was practically begging to be done in their style of Rock'n' Bass. So, here is my shameless recreation of Rob Swire and Company's sonic world (ha) of angular beats, epic vocoded choruses, sawtoothy synth madness, and DAT SNARE. Enjoy, and thanks for listening."
Already two notable vocal mixes in 2012, with Proto R.'s block-rockin' beats joining Justin's Cave Story mix - I like it. Jonathan's a stylistic changeling, showing a downright frightening ability to work impressively in myriad genres, but now he's rocking some vocals too, which is great to see. Varied vocoding effects, harmonic layering, and some mild distortion/bitcrushing are all applied to the original lyrics, and the artist's voice and performance has a modern, mainstream sound to it. It's cool, because you can tell he got into the material enough to sing it like he MEANS it, which makes a HUGE difference, and the variety of vocal parts, even including some spoken/rapped bits, contributes to the energy & chaos. Judging was mostly a formality - while the arrangement is more or less a genre shift and doesn't get wildly interpretive, and the vocal mixing might have been a little low at times, this is a juggernaut of a mix that tackles potentially tricky territory (especially while maintaining the singing bits) and does so with an abundance of style. Vinnie writes:
"Fun listen, pretty easy pass. There were times I thought the vocal could have come up a bit, but other times, it was sitting good. Didn't seem especially loud to me, but Pendulum really sets the bar for loudness themselves, don't they? It was more distorted than loud, but it was obvious it was done for effect"
PR continues doing his own thing and doing it extremely well, and this just expands the daunting arsenal of what he's capable of. Awesome mix, and great to see more SA on the site!

I actually came back to this and looked at the original, and there are actually pretty substantial differences in the melody and in particular the emphases in the lyrics' syllables (EX: the emphases on "Open your heart, it's gonna be alright!" shifted from "it's" to "heart" before the pause in the middle of the sentence).

So, this is one of the first OCReMixes I've ever heard. And even today it blows me away every time I'm listening to it. Awesome take on original theme. I've always got chills from the original and the intro cutscene, so I do here. And vocals are so tasty! I also like how it drops at 4:05 and then kicks back. Pretty toe-tapping and head-bopping tune.

I was gonna say the production sounds a bit lossy... then HOLY SHIT @ 0:22. Blew me away. xD

Man, two Pendulum-like ReMixes in one day, I'm finding all sorts of treats here. The level of hard-hitting beats is high with this one. The vocals are insane, and goes perfectly well with the chaotic nature of this ReMix. PR just brings it and never stops until the song ends, and all around, I just can't find any fault with this one. Recommended.

I've been listening to this almost every day for two months now, and I am still not tired of it.
This is incredible. Love the vocals, especially the chorus.

Love it.
Somehow, you can listen to it several times in a row, and it doesn't get old! It's really easy to jam out to it.

Pretty cool, the vocals were nice but it was hard to understand what he was saying sometimes lol. The production was very nice and the synths sounded cool. Percussion was very fun and overall a very nice mix!

Why is it like all of PrototypeRaptor's stuff?
I think he's a little too good.
Definitely opening The Arcade with this track today. It's Grrr-eat!

True story: the night before this got posted, I was listening to it in my car, wondering if PR had submitted it.
Guess this answers my question, haha.

Wow... just... wow. This... is awesome. I didn't think that that theme could get any better, but... wow, was I wrong...

Yay,another remix from Sonic Adventure! And it's the theme song, no less!
I myself fell in love with this the first time I heard it, with the buildings smashing apart... beautiful. Anyways, I love it; the only thing that I sot of missed was more of the lead melody..., but I guess that's just me. Great job.

This song is awesome. It gives me the same feeling as it did when I was a kid trying to frantically beat Perfect Chaos. In fact, I like this version even more than the original. This is one of the few songs that I have fallen in love with upon my first listen. Absolutely breathtaking.

Now THIS is awesome. Again, like some of the others, I'm not that familiar with the source, but the song came out amazingly...
PR, considering your beautiful tracks, would you be interested in a...challenge? Try the Sonic game ridiculed for it's horrible glitches, but loved for it's music - Sonic '06. I'd love to hear one of the tracks off that in your capable hands, from Crisis City to the title track, His World.

Huh. I was definitely satisfied with Nutritious' Pendulum-like remix that just came out earlier this month, but now there's another awesome similar song! Really grows on ya after the first few listens

Thunder, rain, and lightning
Danger, water rising
Clamor, sirens wailing
It's such a bad sign
Shadows of dark creatures
Steel clouds floating in the air
People run for shelter
What's gonna happen to us
All the steps we take; all the moves we make; all the pain at stake
I see the chaos for everyone; who are we; what can we do
You and I are same in the way that we have our own styles that we won't change
Yours is filled with evil and mine's not there is no way I can lose
Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go
I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last
I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others
Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do
Open your heart, it's gonna be all right
Ancient city blazing
Shadows keep attacking
Little children crying
Confusion, hopeless anger
I don't know what it can be but you drive me crazy
All your cunning tricks make me sick; you won't have it your own way
Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go
I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last
I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others
Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do
Open your heart, it's gonna be all right
If it won't stop, there will be no future for us
Its heart is tied down by all the hate; gotta set him free
I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last
Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do
Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go
I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last
I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others
Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do
Open your heart, it's gonna be all right
