Oh DAMN, it's Trenthian!!
Last posted back in 2007 with an awesome W&W ReMix, it's been so long since we've enjoyed the musical stylings of John St.John that he may be unfamiliar to newer listeners; hopefully this sweet hybrid orchestral/rock/ethnic/cinematic Suikoden mix will also encourage folks to check out his back catalog, including his previous mix from the same game. Ever the eccentric, John sent us his submission in what might best be described as "haiku + kitchen appliance" format:
"A remix for you,
Hoping to forget the past
It is no medley
Refrigerator."
While Bashō may have nothing to fear, I'm sure Kenmore's ad folks are intrigued. I actually would have liked a bit more back-story from Trenth as to what propelled him to resume mixage and/or what grave injustices could explain his 4+ year hiatus, but what his email lacked in sensicality & substance, his arrangement makes up for in badassery, mixing synth leads, layered beats, and Asian flair. Everything's constructed soundly, there's good development, and the mix of instrumentation keeps things fresh, but the primary driver is the synth lead, and specifically some of the ornate twists & turns it takes on the main melodic hook. It's of course great to see more Suikoden, but I also always love hearing from mixers who were more active in the past but dialed it back for a bit, for whatever reason. John ain't lost his touch, I enjoyed this arrangement quite a bit and figger most folk will, too, and I'm hoping he'll grace us with more poetry - written and musical - in the near(er) future.

Dynamic orchestral/cinematic/world stuff has a solid electronica
backbone is one of my passions when it comes to music, so I'm
absolutely stunned here 
I don't have anything to criticize here at
all. This track certainly has enough Asian flavor to it, and
the synthetic elements are blended in really solidly. The drums
are soooo good and the synth lead is nice too! My favorite part
here is probably the final part at 4:10 when the woodwinds and
synths join together, only for the better, of course, haha.

Great work Trenthian! I love your other remixes and i was happy to see you posting this one. I put this one over your previous Suikoden remix, but that would be unfair since both are great masterworks!

This is a pretty slick ReMix. Really nailed the ethic vibe for this one. Gotta love those beats. Makes me feel like I'm right in the middle of the fields where the sun rises.

This mix has some tension to it, and even a bit of ethnic flair - at least that's the impression I get with the song, which might be in part due to the original source. Anyhow, that tension doesn't break throughout, and it helps keep the song interesting. The song does not come off as repetitive to me, in part with all of the instrumentation and variance we see throughout the song. Trenthian does a great job in mixing it up, instilling his style, and maintaining a steady feel that I (lazily) guess is from the original.

Trenthian's last mix before this was one of my favorites for a long time. Still has a place in my heart! Glad he's back - this mix is fantastic. Great atmosphere.
