ReMix:QuackShot "Tangolomango" 2:54

We've been waiting to post this Latin Guifrog Quackshot ReMix, our first from the game, for a loooong time. The arrangement has always been fantastic, as per all of Guifrog's submissions, but only more recently did he provide a requested update with improved samples that really let his tango shine. There are still some issues here and there, as this is a wicked-hard genre to take on with sampled/emulated instrumentation, but this new version is so much better than the previous take, and the arrangement has so much panache, that it was well worth the wait. G-Frog writes:

"Tangolomango, as I know in Brazil, is an expression that translates into something like "mess", "party", "randomness" or similar. I named it like this because the song's actually inspired on the Argentine Tango =P. You may expect traditional instruments like violins, bandoneon, piano and bass; but I've added stuff like percussion and an acoustic guitar, just to give it more flavor. There's no electronica elements this time, as I wanted it to sound simple and natural, but varied and emotional."

Of course I can't help thinking of the "Por una Cabeza" scene from True Lies, but there ARE more Argentinian Tangos out there, as So You Think You Can Dance has shown us. Hyperlinks. This is a super-tough genre to sell without live instruments & performers, but the artist has shown a predilection for taking on such challenges and more-or-less overcoming them, in large part due to some sublime sequencing. Still, you need samples that can at least keep up with you, so I'm glad we got an updated version that let the articulations work more effectively. Judges had already borderline-approved the mix in its previous incarnation, so this upgrade was a no-brainer. halc's comments still mostly apply, though:

"As for the piece, it's a lovely arrangement. A bit synthetic, but quite nice all the same. Great texture, really sounds wonderful. I love the percussion and accordion especially. OCR needs more accordion."

Much less synthetic now than before, and everything else I agree with. Kudos for taking on a difficult concept and, especially in revision, seeing it through to an excellent, enjoyable implementation. Also, MAD CASTANET LINES. If disturbing, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?-esque images of Donald Duck dancing with Jamie Lee Curtis come to mind, just repress them & enjoy more excellent, horizon-expanding mixage from Guifrog.
