It's been awhile since I've listened to Joshua's track off Maverick Rising, and man... I forgot how filthy it is. Gritty guitars, funk so deep it's downright disgusting, and a mutating structure that plants riff after galvanizing riff & keeps surprising throughout. His sound has taken on a Borg-like ability to assimilate just about anything, and while everything he does still drips with traditional staples of funk & jazz, I think "Joshua Morse" is pretty much his own genre, kinda like that Tyler Perry guy gets to put his name on all his movies & shows. Album director Wes Cho writes:
"Josh jumps in here with his hopping medley of the Blast Hornet, Opening Stage, Neon Tiger, and Pass Word songs from Mega Man X3. This song features crunchy guitars in a prominent, grittier role, which is a departure from many of Josh's previous works, but all the while keeping that funky Morse feel due to the trademark synth usage. He was concerned with trying to concoct a track that fit in well with the album, and I think he did a great job here - honestly, it's hard to go wrong with Josh's work, and this track is just an expansion of his repertoire."
I'll echo that I think his style has both blended well AND consistently added depth & variety to every album he's contributed to, and this track is no exception. The electric guitar definitely does tweak the aesthetic a bit, and some of the drum breaks also throw some curve balls; the groove is spastic and unpredictable, but remains watertight throughout, with an impeccable sense of timing. 5'16" isn't all that long, but when you consider the upbeat tempo and the amount of variety & detail compressed into every nook & cranny, this is a BIG track that still stands out on a BIG album. Great, distinct track from Morse which still exemplifies the same characteristics that made all his previous mixes excellent - highly recommended!

Oh, damn!... Absolutely badass jam from Mr. Morse. When I first heard it, I couldn't believe that he made this. The guitars are just so grtty... While this track is defenitely different from other Josh's works, it incorporates synths in Josh's style so it's both hard-hiting and funky. Great!

I wasn't aware of the MMX MR actually being done. Oh dear. But this track really grabbed my attention. Knowing Joshua Morse's direction with his tracks. Its not just a remix, but a completely new song. And its something worthwhile to share and indulge. Its gritty, awesome, and a solid tune.
(and it just made my day even better!) =D

This ReMix really surprised me first time I heard it, cause I wasn't expecting it at all. It shows that Josh isn't just a funky Mixer, and he can still add funk to heavy-hitting sounds. I just have to say I love how dirty the beginning is. I really do. The "buzzing" part of Blast Hornet's stage always seems to get left out in favor of the main melody, so hearing a harsh, gritty take on it was great. I especially loved the plucking "flight of the bumblebee"-like area around 0:55 into it. Using the opening/password pieces to transistion into Neon Tiger was a good way to keep the energy and grit up before letting us off easy with a little bit of funky Tiger. Awesome ReMix.

This track came out of left field for me - the first I saw of it was it in its completed state. Josh did a solid job as usual though.I should mention that there are more than that to be posted from the project . I wish some of the other contributing artists subbed their tracks, there's some good stuff there.
*Looks at Protricity* Congregation of the Fallen is WAAAY undercredited!

I estimated myself as being 1 in 4 O-Clocked fans who liked this one. I didn't see this coming. Just 2 more until we have 20 Maverick Rising singles. One of those two will probably be "Dusty Dune Devil", the Overdrive Ostrich remix. The other will probably be "I Am The One Who Designed and Built Mega Man X". I also wanted to clarify... is the first half of "STING" Blast Hornet and the ending Neon Tiger?

I've always enjoyed this track, especially how it just gets mellow at the end.
