So life's been a little craptastic for me recently... sick, missed PAX East, spent the entire weekend recovering... I'm quite ready for this week to kick last week's ass, and we're off to a great start with this dynamic, varied SML arrangement from Argle that intros with strings then gradually breaks into more of a hip-hop groove with chip textures, electric piano, a nice repeated/plucked instrument, and clean electric guitar towards the end. It's a creative combination of both themes & instrumentation, it's unassuming and pleasant without being obvious, and it seems like a nice mellow, upbeat mix for a Monday. Emunator writes:
"I have to admit I was completely caught off guard by this track. There's a lot of very unexpected turns in the arrangement, and you never really settle on one particular groove or style throughout the course of the mix, which I find rather enthralling as a listener. Overall, this mix doesn't seem like it's trying too hard to be flashy or impressive... you're working with some relatively basic sounds and textures and there's never any real climax, but with all that said I'm surprised by how much I loved this mix! (It helps that your production is pretty much spot-on, as well!)"
WillRock adds:
"Oh man this is sweet. While I agree with Emu that the intro seemed a little out of place and wasn't quite helped with that transition, the attention to detail with the arrangement, the sound design, and the mixing just throws this way over the bar imo."
I especially like the little trills that Argle threw in on the EP part - it's a playful arrangement that almost gives me a Super Mario Galaxy feel at times, and is happier & poppier than Argle's debut Metroid Prime mix from December of last year. Glad to see him back in 2013, glad to be feeling better, and glad to be posting more mixes!

The opening string section sounds rather classical, while the rest of the track is more modern, but I guess it works. After the intro, the mix is so chill and relaxed, giving a perfect feeling of mellow accomplishment. This is so refreshing and gives such a nice, fuzzy feeling. The ending violin section worked a lot better than the one at the beginning imo.

A really nice take on a unique source! I haven't thought of the ending of Super Mario Land for two decades, and here it is in all its glory - only better. Very impressive!!

Very good mix, and I wasn't jarred at all by the intro or the transition from it. However, the ending was a bit off-puting, as it sounded like the song was unresolved; I was waiting for the final note for a few moments before I realized that the song was actually over!

Been a while since I've heard some good electric piano in a ReMix, so this is a treat. Honestly, it is true that this mix doesn't demand attention, but the production and arrangement is so good that it's likely to get it anyway. I've always liked the Daisy theme/Super Mario Land theme, so kudos on working magic with it here.

Congrats on second mix post Argle; it's a really pleasant to listen to song, laid back, doesn't take itself too seriously, but holds your attention throughout which is the essential thing

Very pleasant. The source, instruments, sequencing, and mixing all work together to create this feeling . . . like it's all saying, "you don't have to be listening to me, but if you do here's a cookie"

I don't care what any of you say. This remix is amazing!
And I thought the violin was fine. At least it was real, while still being better than 99.9999% of the best programmed sampled Violin out there.
I didn't find the intro out of place at all either.
But i'm weird. So whatever lol.

OA was right, the violin is actually a tad stiff.
This was my first time coming back to the violin in over a decade, so I was pretty out of shape. I'll try to do better in the future.

OA was right, the violin is actually a tad stiff. It was also fudged by YouTube in the first second
The chiptune-glitch stuff worked better. Seems pretty chill and downtempo to me. I tend to like that. Nice resonant tremolo polysaw. EP was very pure and FM-like, you don't find that kind of EP easily.
2:20 had a pretty nice fretless bass. Interesting rapid perc fillers elsewhere.
I kind of expected something like 3:09, as I was reminded of djp's comment about zircon's "Time To Oil Up".
