Arranging the music of 2 songs...
"Forever Rachel", "Locke"

OMG JAXX! Patrick's last ReMix was posted ten years ago, ALMOST to this very day! When you factor in mellogear's Skyrim return posted this very same month, it seems 2013 is the year for epic, decade-plus comebacks! jaxx always brought a unique, rough-and-tumble punk-informed approach to his arrangements, and this mix is no exception; he's clearly gotten into chips since last we saw him, but the attitude, pulse, and raw energy are still all present & accounted for. He writes:
"So... about three years ago I had a plan for an arrangement album I could do on my own time. I love working with people in collaborations, but sometimes you just need to go solo. It's an album consisting of all the Character themes in Final Fantasy VI called "Demake Some Friends". It's done in sort of a 90's rock/punk thing mixed with chiptune, kind of similar to something like Anamanaguchi... sort of.... Always considered the game to have the best cast of characters in the franchise and I think they're some of the best character themes on any soundtrack. I have 4 tracks near complete and I hope to finish it someday but as time goes on it seems less likely that I'll find time. So I've been sitting on these tracks for a while and I want to make sure at least a couple of these get out there. If this track and my project perk any interest it may give me the determination to finish this thing. It's encouraging (and motivating) when people genuinely enjoy something you've done."
Count me in; I love a lot of punk, although I'm more of a Clash guy than Sex Pistols or Ramones... it's a genre that, because of the intentional rawness and garage aesthetic, sometimes gives the judges a tough time, the same way it gave music critics of the era a tough time. But I think the creative way that jaxx combined punk w/ chiptunes AND the excellent job he did of intertwining Locke's theme and 'Forever Rachel' both speak for themselves. Larry writes:
"Good energy, great use of the NES sounds. Short and sweet, it's a straightforward treatment of the melody, but a super-personalized and well-produced spin on it. Awesomeness."
halc adds:
"awesome! not enough remixes of this theme in the world.. and this is an awesome and quite nostalgic take on it. loved the chip sounds, definitely anamana-esque. Totally down with this, cool stuff. :D"
I think these guys covered it, but I'll add that when I saw that jaxx had something being judged by the panel, this is exactly what I had in mind - this is the kind of track I was hoping for, something that incorporates a new element but still captures the soul of what Patrick's mixes brought to the table a decade ago. Great stuff, VERY glad jaxx decided to submit it, and send him some love so he's inspired to keep mixing!

Yup, totally. The quasi-mood reversal (it met half-way) was a nice twist.
Just put this in my top-tier list. Nice work!

Count me impressed! This is certainly not my usual style of music, but I found myself nodding/banging my head through most of this entire rocking combo of themes. It's really infused with a lot of energy and spirit. Totally not what I was expecting or like other stuff out there. Totally FUN.

Whoa, lots of blasts from the pasts coming up through here. And a great return ReMix to come back on, with this high energy rockin' chiptune song. Very nice. Drums got to me at first, but then they sorta found their place as the ReMix went on. Lots of positives, hardly any negatives. Cool stuff.

I love this, and I'm a big fan of punk. It's unfortunate that people disliked this on youtube probably because they're anticipating Balance and Ruin, that's completely unfair. And the snare is definitely present in the beginning and quite splatty, but I feel it sits pretty well once the music really kicks in. I love the chiptune elements. I guess I'm not particularly familiar with Anamanaguchi because I thought this was a lot more energetic and raw, with a sweet gallop. This mix pretty much combines all of the best parts of punk music with the added greatness of chiptunes.

It is so nice to be listening to some new JAXX! I can't believe it's been 10 years... I can't possibly be that old, right?
This track is distinctly JAXX despite the new chip infused style, and that is a very good thing. It's definitely going into heavy rotation for me. I truly hope this proposed album becomes a reality.

That works surprisingly well. Nice combinations of chips and guitar, and nice arrangement of Rachel and Locke's theme.
Nice to see you again, JAXX!

Definitely hearing the anamanaguchi comparison. And it's fantastic. I'll be downloading this one for sure instead of just streaming it, which I haven't done in a while. I so want to hear more of these!
