Last up for today, we've got Jesse's epic magnum opus, "The God Machine" - a mix I've been waiting to post for several years now, after hearing an amazing WIP back when I visited him in Boston. Rock, electronica, industrial, jazz, dubstep... this one's difficult to categorize, but it's a wild ride that shows off several new sides of Vig's abilities. For those that don't know, he's been working in West coast studios with some rather high profile peeps, he showed up in the background of an episode of American Idol wearing his OCR shirt (which was awesome), and he just released an original single on Bandcamp that you should check out. Of this 6+ minute, genre-defying arrangement that covers MANY Deus Ex sources, he writes:
"Deus Ex was a landmark first-person-shooter. Its ground-breaking incorporation of RPG elements, sprawling open-ended environments and epic storytelling made Deus Ex a truly enduring and immersive release. It came out in 2000, but it is still one of my two favorite games of all time.
I don't play video games very much these days, but I keep coming back to this particular soundtrack. Composed by the incredibly talented Alexander Brandon, the music in Deus Ex struck me from the very first time I played as one of the most immersive and memorable video game scores in recent memory, and now years later, I still listen to it regularly. For years, I've wanted to make my own arrangement of some of my favorite themes from the game.
This song was two years in the making, and I'm incredibly excited to finally be finished. I can't remember all the different incarnations this remix has had, but I'm finally satisfied with the finished product. I hope you enjoy it."
Jesse can be a bit of a perfectionist, which his role on the judges panel often lets him convey, but you can tell that every second of this ReMix has been labored over, that every transition is timed precisely, and that he's poured his heart & soul and love for the game into the arrangement without compromise. This is his first mix of any kind in almost six years, but you really have to go all the way back to 2004's iconic 'Beneath the Surface' - posted almost nine years ago, as part of Kong in Concert - for his last serious posted solo mix. He's not been prolific, but each of his larger solo mixes have been like miniature worlds unto themselves, rewarding repeating listens & packing serious musicality. "The God Machine" is no exception, illustrating his more recent electronic influences while still incorporating a lot of organic components for a mix that stands out on Sonic Augmentation and is destined to stand out on OCR as well. Superlative work from Vig - a huge & worthy tribute to the music of Deus Ex in its own right, and a singular contribution to Sonic Augmentation!

I love this remix. It's very progressive with many electronical elements, which is an approach we don't see that often here in OCR. The change at 3:07 is amazing. Awesome job!

This is so great, that I have no words. There's a bunch of genres, but they work together very well. Exciting stuff.

Man, I could have sworn I said something on this.
Like I thought I said, top-notch arrangement, unbeatable mixing, and I have no crits. The epicness is over 9000 (now this I know I didn't say)!

All the themes meld together so nicely in this one, that I would have to agree that this would fit right in with an overall reprise. I especially liked what you did with it from 3:08 onward. Lots of great electronica going on here.

Everything blends and segues so well, but remains distinct. If DE was a movie, this would be the reprise or medley over the credits. GJ!

I like the Aquatic Ambiance part! Give it a shout-out and list it in the write-up, obscure game sources like that need all the love they can get!
Really nice song, very clean and pristine, enjoyable and actually I may go as far as to say.... educational? Definitely hearing a difference between how I EQ stuff, and this.

"We have grown, but there is still much to be done. Many that live in darkness that must be shown the way, for it is the dawning of a new day."
I'm digging the slow build, controlled but chaotic change ups, and synthetic sound (which is true to the source). Rather than picking out any particular section, this is just a piece you let wash over you. Dare I say this is the first soothing rave music I've ever heard? It's what you'd play to your computer when it's time for it to go into sleep mode.
