Newcomers PsyNES & Elrinth (Jari & Nicklas) offer up some tasty Mega Man 2 electronica with this upbeat & energetic take on 'Flash Man' that starts off strong and only gets more creative as it goes:
"Elrinth picked up one of my unfinished remixes and merged it together. Then he sent it back to me and I got pepped and made the rest of the tune awesome. We made this with Renoise and this is a taste of what's to come under 2012."
In addition to marrying chip elements with a more modern arsenal of synths, there's a lot of nice details here & there, including a generous helping of FX used for percussive & transitional purposes, and more expansive modifications to melody/harmony towards the end. Emu writes:
"Right off the bat, my interest is definitely captured with your energetic and lively writing. Even though things stay relatively simple, and there's not very many instruments going at once, the overall balance/levels sounds pretty pleasing. Fun transitions all across the board, you really cover a TON of ground before the track is over. Very cool hybrid style, I don't have much to say here but what I'm hearing definitely sounds over the bar to me. Had a lot of fun listening to this!"
Nutritious adds:
"Yup, loving the energy. Loved that little transition to the melody at :58. Really liking the energy here. Bass sequencing really shined at places 1:32 - I love the little details thrown here to move the root note and give a bit more interest to the section. SFX were sprinkled throughout, but felt tastefully done. This arrangement makes me think of some of the old school ocr tunes, but with a facelift in the production and some instrumentation. As Larry said, never a dull moment here."
Exciting & fun debut from PsyNES & Elrinth - sure, it's a familiar theme, and it's been arranged in electronic genres more than a few times, but there's a unique character to this mix, the plentiful FX lend a certain exuberance, and compositionally there are some nifty tweaks that seem fresh & cast a new light on an old favorite. Definitely looking forward to hearing more!

Amazing track - I listened to it non-stop for about an hour last night.
The only thing I find questionable are a couple sound effects. The "megman jump landing" effect is too clean - needs to be either volumed down or have more reverb to blend it better. The "gate" effect could have been split up to match the beat.
Other than those, I think the mix is perfect.
Master work!

Sound effects and chip tune together in a tasty little mix. Lots of energy going, which makes this a fun track to listen to, and the way the sound effects help the ReMix along is brilliant. Not bad at all.

I'm not sure, but I might have heard this on the WIP forums a while back. Good to see it up!

Humbled to hear a remix of a classic MM track. Plus it feels like a live gameplay segment with all of the sound fx going berserk. Until it all comes together, it is so sweet.

Kudos on the creative sequencing and use of sounds. The soundscape kept evolving but still felt familiar and like the same song. Not an easy task to accomplish.

Yeah very nice! You guys managed to take a very overdone theme and make it sound fresh. I really liked the arrangement and use of sfx too. Nice job!

I logged for the first time in 7 years just to say how awesome this song is. My neighbours may not be enjoying me at this moment however.

When I saw this posted, I thought, "Really? More Flash Man? And with lots of SFX? Ugh. Well, I'll listen anyway." And wow, this kicks ass. Some of it is just a little too liberal for my tastes, but overall this was really amazing. Best use of 8-bit SFX I've ever heard, great arrangement, great instrumentation, great job keeping a short loop fresh each time it comes around.
I've only just started to play with synth effects myself, and now mixes like this one are my goal. Well, maybe without the SFX. I don't think I could ever make myself do that.

PsyNES!
Man, I've been waiting for a mixpost from you for ages - love your stuff. Very tight, very well mixed and just full of awesomeness, in general.
