Guifrog goes orchestral - while still working in some nice world music influences - in this very narrative arrangement from Sonic 3D Blast:
"Here's another attempt of doing a melodramatic mix. Heh. So what's the story this time? In which place? It can be any you want, coz I didn't intend to focus on a specific country this time (yet you'll probably notice a slight unexpected Asian feel :P).
About volcanoes, you know what those scary things do when they explode, right? They basically destroy everything in their surroundings and leave nothing else but a huge pile of dust. Comma. You also know what happens next, yeah? Well, they create nests. Our lively Earth has a hot deadly past. You can tell we need to fall in order to stand up, we need chaos so the order's set, and we need eruptions so the life has new and fertile ground to sprout; that said, there's many sweet things that only happen for a bitter price.
My track's divided in acts - 'before', 'during' and 'after' the eruption, which you'll probably identify by yourselves. I gave personality to a few 'special guest' instruments - oboe's the life wind, triangle's when it touches the ground, piccolo's a newly born bird. Sure, that's a metaphor. All in all, this track's not about volcanoes. It's about recreating, reviving, renewing."
Garth, that was a haiku! Seriously deep stuff, there, and I love that Guifrog thinks this all through & includes it with his submissions. This mix really does develop & tell a story, and is quite dramatic, with a diverse palette and lots of detail in the part-writing. The degree to which this is an orchestral arrangement varies throughout, but the transitions are all VERY natural - some of the artist's best, most intricate sequencing work to date. Emunator concurs:
"Absolutely loved your sub letter and the concept behind this mix. This is probably your most ambitious arrangement to date, and from the sounds of it, one of your best produced, as well. It's nice to hear you progressing and beginning to approach things with a more bombastic, cinematic edge. This song just feels larger than life and I can't speak enough to how much I enjoyed your arrangement."
Strong words of praise, but deserved; this mix feels more expansive & "epic" than previous arrangements, but still works in quite a bit of mixed instrumentation and doesn't sacrifice the playful, whimsical qualities that have made Guifrog's past mixes so much fun. Great stuff from GF that takes it up a notch on concept, arrangement, & production!

What a cool story behind this mix And I definitely get it. The evolving nature of this mix is awesome - it can be clearly juxtaposed with the process of volanic erruption. The bassline is pretty static, yeah, I hear it too, but the rest of instrumentation is sequenced very tight - the world-inspired precussion, the dramatic strings and piano, everything here just clicks immidiately. Amazing work, Guifrog!

Damn, those strings! I really have to praise how amazing the instruments sound in this arrangement. Perfect epic/impending adventure feeling for a ReMix of a volcano area, especially with some of the crackling and bubble flow I heard underneath it all. Loved how everything settled down near the end and came to a peaceful area with the birds. Now that's a motion inside a song.

Very fun remix here! I can notice the staccato strings need a little work, but other than that, solid production!

Love the string work! Did not expect this type of mix coming form a Sonic game. Kudos good sir!

Very humbling take on an abstract track in the Blast OST. I remember listening to the original via the in-game bgm jukebox playlist. But this is amazing, it feels like its from a brand new game altogether. Love it!
