Up next we got an excellent rock/jazz treatment of the familiar Zelda anthem by none other than The OneUps. I was curious to see how they'd take such a thoroughly-arranged source and make it their own, and I have to say, the context they add is superb. A basic melodic progression/riff that intros the piece is used to frame the main melody, which is kept largely intact but augmented with soloing (on lead guitar all over & a funky EP groove @ 2'06") and part-writing that glues the whole thing together. Mustin writes/plugs:
"More Funk from The OneUps' fifth album, Intergalactic Continuum. Available in the brand new Fangamer.net store in partnership with the new Mustin Enterprises - http://store.mustinenterprises.com. Also available on iTunes and Bandcamp."
The lead guitar is crunchy & crisp, the EP is smooth like butter, bass is thick & has this subtle little synthish/FM attack to it that varies in intensity, drums keep it mostly straightforward but have just that right amount of humanization & groove that ensures things are tight but never feel too strict. As the piece progresses, the lead guitar gets more & more comfortable altering the main melodic riff, with some very cool results, and in just under four minutes, the way these gents turn musical cartwheels around Kondo's enduring theme speaks both to their individual craftsmanship & to their group synergy. Not much else to say - superlative stuff, check out the full album & the rest of their oeuvre for more!

Pretty nice take on this omnipresent tune. Very groovy and laid-back, great guitar work. Also the most piercing slap bass sample ever.

I'd say it's hard to remix Zelda nowadays just because of how
many people invoke so many different
interpretations of every single piece of Zelda music. I counted
(using a sophisticated calculator), there's 237 remixes on
this site...that's roughly 7% of the songs on
OverClocked Remix altogether. So when a band who shines in
both live audio and music production decides to put up their own
arrangements of a good chunk of Zelda songs
specifically, it's a pretty safe bet, that they've taken the
time to listen to quite a few remixes themselves.
...and this one is quite awesome. Smooth guitar, some chunky FM
bass, some vintage sounding drums, and the ever so nice rhodes
topping off the arrangement. Yeah, we have a winner.

The section from 1:50 to 2:06 is actually from the Link's Awakening version of the source, I believe, and should probably get credit.

You have the OneUps. You have the Zelda theme. You know that you're going to get quality and an amazing ReMix. All that is left to do I lay back and enjoy the smooth groove of it all. Thumbs up, fellas.
